Top Dow Dividend Stocks For 2015

Khem Subedi came to the United States from Nepal in 2011, seeking what generations of immigrants before him envisioned: a better life.

Nearly three years later, he is working full time and attending school, working toward owning a home and starting a business.

Subedi’s experience is not unusual; the cultural and financial challenges facing new citizens are enormous. They often have to settle for low-paying jobs even if they were highly paid professionals in their home country. At the same time, they’re learning English and navigating a financial system with its own language and customs.

Subedi benefited from the support of the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) for three months following his arrival in the United States. The organization secured an apartment for him and his wife, helped him get a job, and introduced him to mentors to help with personal finances and his goal of becoming an entrepreneur.

AP, Rockstar GamesGrand Theft Auto V has been a big winner for Take-Two Interactive. When it releases its earnings this week, we’ll find out just how big. You can never know in advance all the news that will move the market in a given week, but some things you can see coming. From earnings reports out of Apple to a deal on burritos on Halloween, here are some of the items that will help shape the week that lies ahead on Wall Street. Monday — An Apple a Day: Last Tuesday Apple (AAPL) had the ear of consumers as it introduced new iPads, iMacs, and an updated operating system. Monday afternoon it will be time to sway investors with its fiscal fourth quarter report. Apple is still the top dog in consumer electronics, but iPad, iPod, and Mac sales have been slipping lately. Apple’s iPhone is the only product category growing, and the end result is that analysts see flat revenue growth at Apple on declining profitability. Apple’s quarter ended with the welcome news that it had sold 9 million iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c devices in their initial weekend of availability. Now it’s time to see if it was enough to save Apple’s quarter. Tuesday — Game On: After years of sluggish sales the video game console industry showed signs of life last month. Take-Two Interactive’s (TTWO) Grand Theft Auto V was a smashing success, helping push the industry to a rare monthly gain. Things will get even more interesting next month when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 hit the market. The market will get a good read on the state of the industry on Tuesday as Take-Two Interactive and the larger Electronic Arts (EA) report fresh earnings. It may be too early for either company to have reliable projections on how the new consoles will fare, but any insight would be incremental at this point. Wednesday — Face to Facebook: One of last year’s most prolific IPOs was Facebook (FB). The leading social networking website operator went public at $38, but a few months later the stock was — like th

Yes and no. I don’t like the risk/reward for fixed-rate mREITs. I’m concerned we could see a spike in the 10-year Treasury note to 3.5% if the economy picks up speed, which will put fixed-rate mREITs under pressure. That said, I think there are select adjustable-rate mREITs that are worthy of a spot in your portfolio. One I do recommend in my Cash Machine Aggressive High-Yield portfolio is Capstead Mortgage (CMO).

  • [By Amanda Alix]

In a show of bravado, several mREITs have declared dividends within the past week, with nary a decrease in sight. Capstead Mortgage (NYSE: CMO  ) just announced the continuation of its $0.31 per share quarterly dividend, which was upped from $0.30 just this past March. CYS Investments (NYSE: CYS  ) revealed its intention to raise its own quarterly payout to $0.34 from $0.32 per share earlier this week, and Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR  ) has joined in, keeping its monthly $0.07 per share dividend firmly in place, even into the third quarter.

  • [By Rich Duprey]

Agency mortgage real estate investment trust Capstead Mortgage (NYSE: CMO  ) announced this morning its second-quarter dividend of $0.31 per share, the same rate it paid last quarter.

  • [By Amanda Alix]

    Everyone got stung
The huge drop in share price, along with the unusually heavy trading volume, smacked of investor panic. Adjustable-rate mortgage investors like Capstead (NYSE: CMO  ) , which reported earnings on Thursday, also took a dive. Even players in the 30-year mortgage market, such as American Capital Agency (NASDAQ: AGNC  ) and Annaly (NYSE: NLY  ) got dinged, right along with the ARM crowd.

What: Shares of Scientific Games (NASDAQ: SGMS  ) jumped 10% in late trading today after signing an important customer.

So what: The company announced that it has signed a contract extension to provide lottery gaming and instant ticket services for the Oklahoma Lottery. This was actually disclosed earlier this year, but investors bid up shares leading up to the announcement and nearly five times the three-month average volume of shares traded hands today.

We are likely approaching the last time I will be reporting on WMS Industries (WMS), the former Williams Electronics. It has agreed to be acquired by Scientific Games (SGMS) for $26 per share, plus the assumption of WMS’ modest debt. The deal is scheduled to close by the end of this year. On its own, WMS is having a dismal fiscal year, which ends June 30. For this year, the company, no doubt with distracted management, earnings are likely to end at about $0.90 per share, compared with fiscal 2012’s $1.31 per share. Helping drive earnings lower are additional measures the company is taking to drive up revenues, which remain well below last decade’s peak. WMS’ stock has flat lined the past few months at within three percent of the $26 price. There is virtually no upside, though there is downside if the deal collapses. I see no reason to get invested in WMS.

Advisors’ Opinion:

A unique 3D printing stock is Organovo Holdings Inc. (NYSEMKT: ONVO). Shares are down more than 15% in 2014 after rising about 325% in 2013. The company is developing a 3D bioprinting technology that can create functional human tissues on demand for research and medical use. Organovo announced a first delivery of liver tissue in late January, well ahead of schedule, and the stock gained back some of its year-to-date losses. The company has been publicly traded for about a year and a half, and the stock hit a post-IPO high of $13.65 in November. It closed on Friday at $9.35. There is no price target on the stock, and the company is not expected to post positive earnings at least through 2015. In terms of market cap, though, Organovo ranks fourth among the publicly traded 3D printing companies with a market value of nearly $728 million.

Frederic J. Brown, AFP/Getty Images Moviegoers aren’t heading out the multiplex the way they used to, but that doesn’t mean that Hollywood is toast. AMC Entertainment (AMC) reported quarterly results Tuesday. The nation’s leading exhibitor — 345 theaters with 4,976 screens — went public two months ago. The headline numbers are positive. Revenue increased a better than expected 2.3 percent to $713 million. Profitability also expanded nicely. However, revenue increased as a result of a 5.5 percent increase in ticket prices and a 3.7 percent uptick in concessions purchased by patrons. Obviously you don’t see those kind of gains against a mere 2.3 percent lift in revenue without dealing with more empty seats, and that’s just what happened. There was a 3.2 percent decline in attendance. AMC’s ticket takers welcomed 50.4 million guests during the holiday quarter, well below the 52.1 million guests that it entertained a year earlier. That’s bad, and what makes things worse is that it had fewer theaters — from continuing operations — a year earlier. It wouldn’t be wise to hold out for a Hollywood ending. Customers Want Bigger and Better Things Apologists will argue that it wasn’t a bumper crop of movies hitting theaters, but that’s not accurate at all. Last year’s biggest box office winner — “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” — opened in November. Disney’s “Frozen” also opened ahead of the holidays, and it’s the family entertainment giant’s biggest non-Pixar earner since 1994’s “The Lion King.” Moviegoers still come out for the big movies, and they’re also willing to pay more for a premium setting. IMAX (IMAX) reported blowout quarterly results a few days earlier. IMAX screens rang up a record $244 million in ticket sales worldwide. IMAX is also closing out the year with a record backlog of 384 commercial theaters to deploy. RealD (RLD) is also holding up nicely as a leading provider of 3-D systems for exhibitors. It enjoyed a major boost with “Gravity,” a

Follow-on Stock Offerings From Small Cap Biotech Stocks. Thanks to the boom in biotech IPOs along with the sector’s overall performance, already listed biotechs have the option to ask investors for more cash in the form of a follow-on offering. Recently, FierceBiotech.com noted how four small cap biotechs raised $276 million from follow-on offerings in just one day last week. These small caps included Epizyme Inc (NASDAQ: EPZM) which raised $88 million, Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc (NASDAQ: HALO) which raised $100 million, Agenus Inc (NASDAQ: AGEN) which raised $52 million and Idera Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: IDRA) which raised $36 million. FierceBiotech.com noted that the steady flow of about $4.5 billion a year in venture cash along with more than $3.5 billion from IPOs last year plus all of the follow-ons are helping to foster both company growth and accelerate drug development programs. Mixed Bag for Biotech IPOs. Last Wednesday also saw two small cap biotech IPOs fizzle in one day with small cap T cell vaccine developer Genocea Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: GNCA) raising $60 million but then ending the day down 8.3% to close at $11 while Dutch drug developer uniQure NV (QURE) raised $81.9 million but fell more than 14% to $14.61. However, orphan drug stock Auspex Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: ASPX), which is developing drugs to treat orphan diseases like Tourette syndrome, saw a 30.5% gain to close at $15.66 and raise $84 million. The Boston Globe quoted Michael Ringel, a partner and managing director at Boston Consulting Group who focuses on health care business, as saying:

“The mood is incredibly positive. Capital is flowing. [The biotech IPOs]… have been burning hot. I think it’s too early to suggest that is changing. I can’t predict the overall economy any better than anyone else, but I would expect a pretty good year for IPOs.”

Halozyme Therapeutics (NASDAQ: HALO  ) isn’t quite as close to commercialization. The company has a mid-stage study under way that combines its rHuPH20 hyaluronidase enzyme with a mealtime insulin analog. Halozyme’s enzyme helps the insulin to be absorbed more quickly than it would normally.

All that being said, while St. Jude Medical might have never been known as a device pioneer, the acquisitions of Nanostim and Endosense have given STJ stock holders some exposure to pacemakers without pesky leads (where the “pulse” is created), and exposure to atrial fibrillation treatment without the use of drugs. This year might mark a serious upgrade for the company’s product lines.
