    LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Stocks in Japan climbed at the start of trade Tuesday, as U.S. dollar strength against the yen aided the export-oriented market. The Nikkei Stock Average (JP:NIK) advanced 1% to 14,431.03, and the broader Topix rose 1.5% to 1,201.63, with the greenback moving back above the ¥102 level versus Japan’s currency. Among exporters, stock in Canon Inc. (JP:7751) (CAJ) rose 1.6%, Mazda Motor Corp. (JP:7261) (MZDAF) tacked on 1.5%, and Sony Corp. (JP:6758) (SNE) gained 1.4%. Banking stocks were higher ahead of the conclusion of the Bank of Japan’s meeting later Tuesday, and officials are not expected to announce any changes in monetary policy. Shares of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. (JP:8306) (MTU) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. (JP:8316) (SMFG) were each up by 1.7%.

    LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Stocks in Japan jumped Wednesday in early trade, with the benchmark index winning back part of losses during the previous day’s selloff. The Nikkei Stock Average (JP:NIK) rose 1.6% to 15,665.47, and the broader Topix gained 1.3%, aided as the U.S. dollar (USDJPY) traded back above the 104-level against the yen. Auto shares bounced up, with Mazda Motor Corp. (JP:7261) (MZDAF) higher by 2.2% and Honda Motor Co. (JP:7267) (HMC) rising by 0.9%. Toshiba Corp. (JP:6502) (TOSYY) shares leapt 3.5% after the Westinghouse unit of the company agreed to buy a majority stake in NuGen, a U.K. nuclear joint venture between France’s GDF Suez (FR:GSZ) and Spain’s Iberdrola [es: ibe].

    LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Japanese stocks rose Wednesday after a lower open, managing solid gains with most other Asian markets were closed for the Christmas holiday. The Nikkei Stock Average (JP:NIK) climbed 0.8% to 16,009.99, its first close above the 16,000 level since late 2007. The broader Topix ended with a more modest 0.1% rise. Seven & I Holdings Co. (JP:3382) (SVNDF) , operators of the 7-Eleven convenience-store chain, rose 1.5% as a Nikkei Asian Review report said it planned to pay about ¥5 billion yen to purchase nearly half of Bals, which runs home-and-kitchen-furnishings retailer Francfranc. Chip maker Renesas Electronics Corp. (JP:6723) (RNECY) was a strong performer, rallying 6.5% after suffering a sizeable drop in the previous session. On the downside, shares of Softbank Corp. (JP:9984) (SFTBF) fell 0.5%, after a separate article in the Nikkei saying that previously reported plans by the firm to buy T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS) through its newly acquired Sprint (S) unit would value the transaction at more than 2 trillion yen ($19 billion) and would take place as early as next spring. Auto-maker stocks were mostly higher after trading mixed following the release of Japanese car-sales data for November. Toyota Motor Corp. (JP:7203) (TM) added 0.2%, Honda Motor Co. (JP:7267)

IDACORP, Inc. (IDACORP), incorporated on February 2, 1998, is a holding company. The Company’s operating subsidiary is Idaho Power Company (Idaho Power).     ATMI supplies high performance materials, materials packaging and materials delivery systems for use in the manufacture of microelectronics devices worldwide. ATMI agreed to be acquired by Entegris (ENTG) for $1.15 billion, or $34 per share. The deal will provide a lot more of product offerings. The acquisition is expected to close during the second calendar quarter of 2014.
