And no, we didn’t accidentally republish yesterday’s post about Skyworks Solutions (SWKS). Skyworks Solutions is once again today’s hottest stock. The semiconductor manufacturer–and Apple (AAPL) supplier– followed up yesterday’s 4.4% rise with 6.4% gain to $77.02, as it once again rode Apple’s coattails higher. The iPhone maker gained 3.4% to $115.57.

But it wasn’t all Apple today. There was also a positive analyst note from Oppenheimer’sRick Schafer and Joshua Buchalter, who call Skyworks, which has gained just 0.2% this year, “misunderstood” and “mis-priced.” They explain why:

Given YTD performance, everything looks cheap. But we remain selective. Ex-Spirit Airlines (SAVE), our entire coverage universe is down year-to-date, with most names also underperforming the S&P 500. Multiples have compressed, with diminishing differentiation between (for example) those with declining leverage (Delta) vs. those where leverage is on the rise (America). In a vacuum, a Buy could potentially be argued for any individual name. Based on estimated risk and upside potential, Delta and Southwest are our top two picks.

Yesterday, shares of United Continental (UAL) and American Airlines (AAL) got pummeled after Delta Air Lines (DAL) offered disappointing guidance. Today, airline stocks are getting smacked again, this time after Credit Suisse Julie Yates and Parker Kim cut their ratings on American and United Continental, while stating a preference for airlines like Southwest Airlines (LUV) and Spirit Airlines (SAVE) that have low exposure to international air travel. They explain why:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

There were 67 times this happened, the first coming in June 2011 (airlines didnt guide to margins before that), and 66 of these instances came from Delta, United, andAmerican (the 67th wasSpirit Airlines (SAVE)). As we said earlier the most short term alpha, +5.3%, was generated over the subsequent four days by being long airlines into a guidance update where an airline would merely affirm a PRASM guide but raise the margin guide. This only happened four times and obviously was a result of airlines holding some semblance of price as costs declined.

Where we are concerned: 1. Ex-Joint Strike Fighter portfolio is average. There are few major growth differentiators after F-35; and actually headwinds in Aeronautics specifically, including C-5 and F-16. 2. Consensus EPS and cash flow estimate headwinds. The final Leidos Holdings (LDOS)-Lockheed Martin numbers are likely dilutive to 2016, so guidance will come down. The $1.5bn 2018 cash pension contribution means lower 2018 free cash and a weaker 5-year cash trajectory than peers. 3. Valuation tough. Lockheed Martin trades at 24X CY17E P/E ex pension. While we shy away from valuation concerns at the trough of the Defense cycle, this is more expensive than other Defense stocks.

Getty Images We’re taught when we’re young to be leery of peer pressure. As we grow older, we like to think we’ve outgrown its effects. But that isn’t always the case — especially when it comes to our finances. Some companies are hoping to exploit this fact after determining that a person’s social connections can reveal a lot about how they handle money, according to a recent CNNMoney article. Armed with this revelation, a slew of start-ups — like Lenddo, Kabbage, and Kreditech — are using a person’s social connections — his Facebook (FB) friends, for example — to determine his creditworthiness. If this new mode of measurement takes off, you’ll have a lot more to worry about than what’s being reported on your credit history. Time to Delete That Friend Who’s Always Behind On His Bills? Although it’s unlikely this data will replace the system banks currently use to decide how much they’ll loan you and at what rate (after all, it’d be a relatively easy system to game by simply unfriending those of your associates who are horrible at budgeting), it should make you think twice about your financial influences. The idea that your peers influence your beliefs about reality isn’t all that new. In 1935, Turkish social psychologist Muzafer Sherif designed an experiment in which he shone a dot of light on a wall in a dark room and asked participants how far it moved. The light never actually moved, but due to a trick of the eye, it appeared to. The participants took the test multiple times, and repeatedly gave answers that remained fairly consistent for each individual. Then Sherif put his test subjects into groups of people who had given a different measurement for how much the light moved. In that scenario, each participant changed his original answer to match whatever the consensus was among the group. Even when asked later on, away from the group, how much the light moved, the individual stuck to the group consensus, abandoning his original answer. Sherif’s
