Top 5 Gas Utility Stocks To Invest In Right Now

There will always be comparisons made between Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO  ) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG  ) because of their history as Internet pioneers and innovators in search. But while Google has branched into email, cloud services, video, mobile operating systems, and other products, it has stayed a search company at heart, something Yahoo! hasn’t done — for better or worse.

Yahoo! has become a true Internet portal — a source for news, financial analysis, and an assortment of other services. Everything the company does is intended to get eyeballs to the site.

The problem for Yahoo! is that a search for users has caused the search business to suffer in the mean time. Paid clicks generated from search dropped throughout 2011 and have only began to rebound from lows seen in late 2012. While clicks have picked up, price per click dropped 7% in the first quarter, a sign the company isn’t monetizing search as well as Google. Yahoo!’s partnership with Microsoft, which was supposed to help both companies battle Google, hasn’t resulted in significant financial progress for either company.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Three months ago I wrote that the stock performance YTD of independent ethanol producer Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) was an “aberration”, especially in light of the performance of its industry peers’ shares. The discrepancy between Pacific Ethanol’s share price and those of its peers has only grown more pronounced since July (see figure). Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) and REX American Resources (REX) have continued to greatly outperform the S&P 500. Even Biofuel Energy, which fell behind on its interest and debt payments over the summer and is facing a shareholder-ruining liquidation, has seen its share price perform significantly better than Pacific Ethanol’s in 2013. The oddest part about the stock’s performance over the last three months, however, is that the period has been marked by multiple positive announcements from the company. It late July it reported its first positive EPS in almost two years for Q2 (0.07). Its Q2 EBITDA of $3.8 million was its highest sinc e Q4 2011. Its current ratio is well above its previous lows, its ratio of total assets to total liabilities is increasing, and its total shareholders’ equity is at a 3-year high. Despite these improvements, the company’s price/book ratio is a mere 0.77.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Last week, yours truly posed the unpopular (though largely ignored) premise that EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) was poised to tumble. It wasn’t anything personal, nor was it a judgment call on the merits of the company. It was simply a trading-based call, observing how the rally EDAP was enjoying at the time appeared to be running out of gas, and there was no floor to halt any pullback.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

This isn’t going to be a well-received idea, given how bullish the stock appears to be at this time, but EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) is a sell. Up 82% since the end of May, EDAP is ripe for a pullback, and may have reached the bearish pivot point as of today.

Laparoscopic surgery or minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a type of surgical technique where operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions while small cap stocks ArthroCare Corporation (NASDAQ: ARTC), EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ: EDAP), SafeStitch Medical Inc (OTCBB: SFES) and Arch Therapeutics Inc (OTCBB: ARTH) are all in some way focused on aiding minimally invasive procedures. According to a 2012 report produced by MedMarket Diligence, LLC, approximately 114 million surgical and procedure-based wounds occur annually worldwide, including 36 million in the US, and perhaps up to a quarter of these procedures can be described as laparoscopic in nature. Moreover, use of the technique is bound to increase as it reduces pain and hemorrhaging plus leads to a shorter recovery time.
