Zero Coupon Bond: Think of investing in Zero Coupon Bond in the year 2013 and it should be taken as a preferred tool of instrument of investment specially by persons not interested in regular income. Generally the maturity time of Zero Coupon Bond is ten years. Also look into the tax planning aspect at the time of maturity. Because of the benefit of Cost Inflation Index tax will be virtually nil on your income from Zero Coupon Bond at the time of maturity. It is also good to gift Zero Coupon Bonds to your  minor children aged eight years and above.

Tax free bonds: If you are coming in the highest income bracket, namely if you are having income exceeding Rs.10 lakhs in a year, then surely it is worthwhile for you to make your investment in tax free bonds specially if you calculate the impact of income-tax savings on the same. The investment in the year 2013 in tax free bonds would be better than Bank Fixed Deposits.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Marc Bastow]

Chemical products manufacturer Celanese (CE) raised its quarterly dividend 39% to 25 cents per share payable payable on May 16 to shareholders of record May 5.
    CE Dividend Yield: 1.69%

  • [By Magic Diligence]

Given this fact, and the fact that consumer electronics (CE) is a cyclical industry, flash supply and demand balance is very tenuous. Frantic production to catch up to demand often leads to dramatic over-supply when the CE market cools off. One needs only to look at SanDisk’s financials to see this. The company swung from a $917 dollar operations loss in 2008 to a $1.5 billion dollar profit in 2011, and which was then cut in half to just a $700 million profit the following year!

  • [By Monica Gerson]

Celanese (NYSE: CE) is estimated to report its Q3 earnings at $1.04 per share on revenue of $1.59 billion.

Those seeking to capitalize on the now-waning firearm craze may be better off looking at ammunition makers like Olin Corporation (OLN). It got its own mania-driven sales bump in Q3, as owners of newly-purchased guns stocked up on bullets. But, at least there’s relatively stable recurring revenue in the ammo business, assuming all these recent gun buyers make occasional visits to the shooting range.
