Top 10 Warren Buffett Companies To Invest In 2014

DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) — At Stockpickr, we track daily portfolios of stocks that are the biggest percentage gainers and the biggest percentage losers.

>>5 Hated Earnings Stocks You Should Love

Stocks that are making large moves like these are favorites among short-term traders because they can jump into these names and try to capture some of that massive volatility. Stocks that are making big-percentage moves either up or down are usually in play because their sector is becoming attractive or they have a major fundamental catalyst such as a recent earnings release. Sometimes stocks making big moves have been hit with an analyst upgrade or an analyst downgrade.

Regardless of the reason behind it, when a stock makes a large-percentage move, it is often just the start of a new major trend — a trend that can lead to huge profits. If you time your trade correctly, combining technical indicators with fundamental trends, discipline and sound money management, you will be well on your way to investment success.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Dittman]

Answer: I don’t anticipate a spate of dividend cuts. FirstEnergy Corp’s (NYSE: FE) problems were apparent last fall, when it announced 2013 Q3 numbers. We do have TECO Energy Inc (NYSE: TE) and PG&E Corp (NYSE: PCG) on the UF Dividend Watch List, though the latter is in a much more precarious position than the former.

The regulatory environment is generally improving, as state and federal authorities are beginning to recognize the investment utilities have made over the past half-decade in system reliability and capacity expansion.

Another key supporting dividends is a healthier US economy, which should support better power demand from commercial and industrial customers.

  • [By David Dittman]

Question: What is your view on mainly electric utilities with the rising interest rates as a trend along with natural gas lower and wholesale electric prices down? Are we in for more Exelon Corp (NYSE: EXC) and FirstEnergy Corp (NYSE: FE) situations?

  • [By David Dittman]

And nothing illustrates this scenario better than the decision by FirstEnergy Corp (NYSE: FE) to cut its dividend by 34.5 percent from $0.55 per share per quarter, or $2.20 on an annualized basis, to $0.36 per share per quarter, or $1.44 per year.

  • [By Lauren Pollock]

FirstEnergy Corp.(FE) gave 2014 earnings guidance that was mostly lower than analysts’ expectations. The power company again narrowed its 2013 per-share earnings view to $2.95 to $3.05, from its previously narrowed estimate of $2.90 to $3.10. Shares edged down 1.2% to $31.75 in light premarket trading.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Powell]

At the minimum, your family trust should hold the iShares Dow Jones Select Dividend Index (DVY). I also think you should consider the iShares International Select Dividend Fund (IDV) that invests in foreign companies with good payment histories.

  • [By Selena Maranjian]

Exchange-traded funds offer a convenient way to invest in sectors or niches that interest you. If you’d like to add some international dividend-paying stocks to your portfolio but don’t have the time or expertise to hand-pick a few, the iShares Dow Jones International Select Div ETF (NYSEMKT: IDV  ) could save you a lot of trouble. Instead of trying to figure out which companies will perform best, you can use this ETF to invest in lots of them simultaneously.

    The basics
ETFs often sport lower expense ratios than their mutual fund cousins. The iShares ETF’s expense ratio — its annual fee — is a relatively low 0.50% — and it recently yielded more than 5%!

This ETF has performed  well, outstripping the MSCI EAFE index over the past three and five years. As with most investments, of course, we can’t expect outstanding performances in every quarter or year. Investors with conviction need to wait for their holdings to deliver.

The premise here would be that any increase in nationwide drug testing would be bound to turn up additional drug users and could boost the prison population. That would be great news for the GEO Group (NYSE: GEO  ) and Corrections Corp. of America (NYSE: CXW  ) , which are contracted out through the government to run and service prisons around the country.

What’s the Catch With Alternative Energy Partners Inc? According to various disclosures, no transactions have occurred to mention Alternative Energy Partners in various investment newsletters and there is no recent news from the company. In fact, the most recent press release from Alternative Energy Partners dates from September to announce the launch of the beta version of http://www.pharmajanes.com – its website for delivery of medical marijuana products. As of September, the PharmaJanes beta platform was only available online with the mobile application set to follow after the official launch of the online platform. Otherwise and according to the latest Form 10-Q filed on December 23rd, the company agreed to acquire the PharmaJanesTM marketing operation from iEquity Corp. back in May 2013 and will be changing its business model to focus purely in the medical marijuana marketing space. In addition, AEGY will be changing its name to PharmaJanes, Inc. Otherw ise, someone by the name of Mario Barrera currently serves as Chairman, President and CEO and sole officer and the company has no paid employees – relying instead on paid consultants to provide necessary services. A look at Alternative Energy Partners’ financials reveals revenues of zero (most recent reported quarter), –$3k, $1k and $1k for the past four quarters along not income of $230k (most recent reported quarter) and net losses of $2,954k, $51k and $452k. At the end of October, Alternative Energy Partners had $2,031k in current liabilities and $237k in long term debt. So while investors or traders got a high on Monday (and last Friday as well), it does not look like a sustainable high.
