Top 10 Trucking Stocks To Watch Right Now

Financial advisors almost invariably counsel their clients to invest their retirement savings in growth instruments such as stocks and real estate during their working years. But the time eventually comes when at least a portion of retirement assets must be shifted into more conservative holdings that pose less market risk. The need for growth gives way to the need for capital preservation and liquidity, and there are relatively few investment vehicles that can satisfy both of these objectives at the same time. Money market accounts are one such instrument that typically pay slightly higher rates than traditional savings or checking accounts.

What is the Money Market?
In order to understand how money market accounts work, it is necessary to have a basic knowledge of the debt markets. All debt instruments can be divided into two categories: the capital market and the money market. Any debt instrument with a term to maturity of more than 270 days is considered to be capital market security, while all debt securities with a maturity of 270 days or less are considered to be money market instruments. These instruments include commercial paper, treasury securities with maturities of nine months or less, whiskey warehouse receipts and repurchase agreements. The constant maturation of these short-term debts make the money market the most liquid segment of the fixed income market.

BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust operates as a grantor trust in the United States. The company holds overriding royalty interests constituting a non-operational interest in minerals in the Prudhoe Bay oil field located on the North Slope in Alaska. The Prudhoe Bay field extends approximately 12 miles by 27 miles and contains approximately 150,000 gross productive acres. As of December 31, 2012, its estimated net remaining proved reserves were 75.517 million barrels of oil and condensate, of which 70.676 million barrels are proved developed reserves and 4.841 million barrels are proved undeveloped reserves. The company was founded in 1989 and is based in Austin, Texas.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Aaron Levitt]

BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (BPT): BPT is the largest conventional oil and gas trust in the U.S. and was originally formed in 1989 by BP (BP). The royalty trust collects fees on the first 90,000 barrels of oil collected in the massive Prudhoe Bay oil field located on Alaska’s North Slope. While production in Prudhoe Bay have slipped over the last few years, BPT is expected to continue pumping out dividends for another 15 years. This royalty trust yields a very hefty 11% based on the last four distributions.

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (NYSE: BPT  ) is also fueling its distributions. The trust’s new quarterly payout comes out to $2.4147517 a unit. We’re really splitting pennies here, but it’s actually a reasonable 4% increase over its earlier rate.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (NYSE: BPT  )
Created in 1989, the property of the BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust consists of an overriding royalty interest of oil and condensate production from BP’s Prudhoe Bay oil field located on the North Slope in Alaska. The trust makes quarterly payments to investors of the income after expenses, which can vary each quarter. Over the past year the trust has paid out an average of $2.22 per quarter which would imply a yield of around 9.4%. The key point that investors must understand is that the oil in the field is a finite resource, meaning that it will run out. Under current projections it’s expected that the trust will run dry around the year 2029.

Advisors’ Opinion:

    All clear ahead
In early October, peer semiconductor company Microchip Technology (NASDAQ: MCHP  ) warned investors that quarterly revenue would come in below its previous forecast as well as analyst projections. That sent semiconductor stocks crashing. Microchip fell 10% after the warning, but its announcement dragged down other chip stocks, too, including Texas Instruments, which saw its stock price drop dramatically in a span of just a few weeks. On Sept. 18, Texas Instruments traded for $49 per share. By Oct. 13, four days after Microchip’s warning, Texas Instruments fell all the way to $41 per share, representing an approximately 16% decline.

CSR (CSRE), which recently rejected a $2.5 billion takeover offer from Microchip Technology (MCHP), has just been bagged by Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) for $2.5 billion.

  • [By Riddhi Kharkia]

The semiconductor maker had it pretty bad on Friday as most of the stocks fell after the warning from Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP). Though it might have looked like an overreaction yet, the investors of semiconductor stocks had to face a reasonable depreciation in their investment value because Microchip cut its sales outlook and warned investors that the industry could face a downturn pretty soon. Well, this is a thing of the past and what is done cannot be undone but the important thing to worry about is future. Intel (INTC), the chip giant which has been gaining momentum and has performed better than expectations in the year, is all set to post its third-quarter earnings on Tuesday.

  • [By Jayson Derrick]

Last night Microchip (NASDAQ: MCHP) issued second quarter downside guidance. The company said that it expects its revenue to be $546.2 million, below prior guidance of $560 million to $567.9 million. Perhaps more alarming were the cements from the company's CEO Steve Sanghi who said “we believe that another industry correction has begun and that this correction will be seen more broadly across the industry in the near future.” Shares lost 12.26 percent, closing at $39.96.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Dittman]

Pinnacle West Capital Corp (NYSE: PNW) is one of the few US utilities that didn’t benefit from colder winter weather, as heating-degree days for its Arizona Public Service unit declined by 51 percent due to warmer temperatures and transmission revenue dipped, leading to a 36.4 percent drop in first-quarter earnings per share to $0.14.

  • [By David Dittman]

Early solar movers have subtracted rate-payers, which eats at revenue. Utilities must continue to invest in infrastructure, and that requires rate increases. But higher electricity rates make solar installation seem less expensive, raising incentives to go solar and further eroding the rate-payer base. It’s a potentially vicious cycle for utilities.
Arizona regulators recently ruled that Pinnacle West Capital Corp (NYSE: PNW) can charge customers who install solar panels a fee based on their continued reliance on the grid, a trend that could have legs around the US.

Palo Verde is majority owned and operated by Arizona’s Pinnacle West (PNW), itself a takeover target, though its larger size ($5.81 billion market capitalization), will likely require a bigger buyer.

BlueOrange Studio/Shutterstock One day out of 365, we pay homage to our sainted mothers. Those of us who are members of this long-suffering, uncomplaining, self-sacrificing class may get some soggy French toast in bed, (don’t worry, kids; mom will clean up the kitchen), a chance to read in peace, or perhaps time to indulge in a long, hot bath. Bringing Home the Bacon If you really want to pay back mom for all she’s done, get ready to pony up big. A card and some carnations (the official flower of Mother’s Day, who knew?) just won’t cut it. The cost of replacing mom as nurturer, nurse, cleaner and cook — according to Insure.com’s 2014 Mother’s Day salary index — would run you $62,985 a year, up from $59,862 in 2013. Breaking down the price of having someone else handle her various duties: Cooking and cleaning, $12,230 Child care, $21,736 Homework help, $7,290 Chauffeur, $5,672 Shopping, yard work, party and activity planning, finances, etc., $15,019 And my personal favorite, finding out what the kids are up to (paid in the equivalent value of a private detective), $1,036. Salary.com placed a higher value on moms in its 2014 Mother’s Day salary survey, concluding that stay-at-home moms were worth $118,905 and working moms worth $70,107 (this does not include any paid salary from their job), with both groups putting more than 56 hours of overtime at home. These numbers are all up from last year’s survey. Cooking It Up in a Pan Mom helps to pay for other things, too. Thanks to the Department of Agriculture, you can see what it costs to raise a child in the U.S. to 18. As of August 2013, the average cost is $241,080. This does not cover college, and hopefully dear old dad is contributing. In 2012, there were 10.3 million single U.S. mothers with children under 18, and one-third of women who gave birth in 2012 were single moms. By becoming moms, women give up time to do other things, what economists call an “opportunity cost.” Particularly if your mother st

But a bigger reason to sell, in my opinion, right now, is a change in the risk/reward profile of the market as a whole. The recent sell off in momentum stocks—which now looks like it’s spreading to consumer discretionary leaders—makes me want to raise cash for the inevitable bounce back in these stocks. I don’t know when we might see that bounce—and I’m not buying yet, since I think we’re still in “catch a falling knife” territory. But when stocks such as FireEye (FEYE), or Palo Alto Networks (PANW), or Incyte (INCY), or Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) do bounce, the gains will be bigger and quicker than those in holding Citigroup.
