    In retrospect, their pullbacks come as no real surprise. Neither Voxeljet AG (NYSE:VJET) nor Camtek LTD. (NASDAQ:CAMT) saw their shares soar on any news that was meaningfully sustainable, and after the “shoot first, ask questions later” market had a chance to start asking questions, it became clear that – even with the largest of glimmers of corporate progress unveiled a few weeks ago – CAMT and VJET both had been bid up more on hype and less on substance. Meanwhile (and this could be bitterly ironic to some), a small cap play in the same 3D printing space that (1) didn’t beat the daylights out of its hype-drum, and (2) is actually much closer to bringing a revenue-bearing product to the market [per today’s news – more on that below] isn’t getting anywhere near the same attention. That company? Makism 3D Corp. (OTCBB:MDDD). The good news is, MDDD finally looks like it’s revving its engine, while Camtek and Voxeljet AG shares continue to deteriorate.

    Intel (INTC)  rose almost 7% to $29.87 after the world’s largest semiconductor company on Thursday raised its second-quarter revenue forecast to a range of $13.4 billion to $14 billion from an earlier estimate of $12.5 billion to $13.5 billion. Intel said that it was seeing greater-than-expected demand for business PCs, and the company now expects to see revenue grow slightly for the entire year. The company had earlier forecast full-year sales to be flat with a year ago.

    Stocks ended a mini-losing streak on Friday, led by upbeat news from Intel (INTC). The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI) rose 41 points, after sliding more than 200 over the previous two days. The Nasdaq composite (^IXIC) gained 13 and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index (^GPSC) added 6 points. Those modest gains did little to trim the loss for the week. The major averages posted their biggest weekly declines in more than two months. Intel is a component of all three big indexes, and it jumped 7 percent after raising its revenue guidance for the current quarter. The company sees stronger business demand for PCs than it previously expected. Intel shares are up 23 percent over the past six months. The Intel news had a ripple effect. Computer maker Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) rose more than 5 percent and Microsoft (MSFT) gained 1½ percent. Part of the increased demand Intel points to is tied to corporate buyers who need to replace their Windows XP machines, because Microsoft has stopped providing technical support for that platform. But Apple (AAPL) lost more than 1 percent. The stock is down since its 7-for-1 stock split took effect on Monday. There were two other big stories that had some legs beyond the companies directly involved. Open Table (OPEN) agreed to be acquired by Priceline (PCLN) for $2.6 billion. Open Table, which provides restaurant reservations, jumped 48 percent. Other online service providers rode the coattails of that deal.     After some disappointing news this morning, Intel Corp (INTC) reassured its investors this afternoon by boosting its Q2 and FY2014 revenue and gross margin expectations.

    According to Intel’s press release, the boosted outlook for the coming quarter and year is due to higher computer sales than the company was expecting. For the second quarter, Intel expects revenue to be $13.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million, which is up from the previous Q2 revenue expectation of $13 billion, plus or minus $500 million. The midpoint of the company’s gross margin range is expected to increase by 1 point to 64%, plus or minus a few percentage points.

    For the full year, Intel previously forecasted flat revenue, but now sees positive growth. The margin percentage for the full year is expected to be in the upper half of its previous range of 61%, plus or minus a few percentage points. Intel will give more details for its outlook on July 15, when the company reports its Q2 earnings.

    After gaining just 3 cents, or 0.11%, on the day, INTC stock was up $1.29, or 4.61%, in after hours trading. YTD, the company’s stock is up 8.3%.
