Top 10 Construction Stocks To Own For 2016: Massive Dynamics Inc (MSSD)

Massive Dynamics, Inc., incorporated on March 15, 2011, is a development-stage company. The Company is providing services to communication tower operators. On August 20, 2012, Kylemore Corp. (Kylemore) approximately 90% of the Company. On April 16, 2013, the Company entered into an Asset Purchase Agreement with Real-View 3D (RV3D). With the Company’s acquisition of the assets of RV3D, the Company is providing engineering and compliance to communications tower operators to three dimension (3D) imaging. RV3D is an image capture product company that has developed and is committed to design, patent, manufacture and market 3D imaging Z-axis capture products for the consumer computer peripherals market.

The Company has developed technology around an imaging technology known as structured light, which allows for the rapid capture and processing of the digital signal capture 3D images of objects or real time 3D video of a desired target. A structured light image is a calibrated grid of lines that is projected on the subject. These projected lines deviate as they fall over the subject. An image of these lines is captured. Real View 3D software can extract Z-axis data from these line deviations and a topographical map is created. To image a complete subject, the subject is rotated 360 degrees for the image and then another 360 degree rotation for capturing the structured light for the Z axis map information. The resulting Z axis map and the image are then fused into a 360 degree renderable image. This image can then be exported into many other formats for viewing. The Company’s primary business will be to develop and market 3D scanning, capture, rendering, and printing products to four markets: consumer, commercial, industrial, and medical.

The problem with that, of course, is that competition is beginning to emerge in machine selling, as small companies with names such as ExOne (NASDAQ: XONE  ) and Massive Dynamics (NASDAQOTH: MSSD  ) begin to horn in on the printer biz. Competition will probably arise even faster in the selling of printing composites, as Hewlett-Packard discovered to its detriment, when printer ink cartridge “refillers” began stealing away its lucrative ink business.

    SWK’s Earnings in Brief

Net earnings for the quarter came in at $38.5 million, up from last year’s Q4 net income of $36.1 million. For the full year, SWK reported reported diluted EPS of $4.98 on revenues of $11 billion.

    CEO Commentary

SWK’s chairman and CEO, John F. Lundgren Chairman, commented on the company’s earnings: “During 2013 we made significant progress driving organic growth throughout the organization and the fourth quarter was no exception as the momentum continued from our organic growth initiatives. CDIY and Industrial delivered strong top and bottom line growth in spite of FX headwinds and on-going challenging global market conditions. The Security segment’s margin recovery is underway with notable improvement in North America and actions to improve Europe’s margins in place.

It has been almost as silly in the other direction, too. Traders knocked billions off the market cap of Stanley Black & Decker (SWK) after the company actually reported a 44% improvement in earnings. Others, however, gave back six months of gains in one week. That was the case for Select Comfort (SCSS), which plunged 29% to $18.60 this week after missing earnings forecasts and cutting guidance for the second time in 2013. Stanley Black & Decker (SWK), meanwhile, fell 15% to $77.16 after it beat earnings but lowered its guidance. It blamed weak margins in its security business, emerging markets and…wait for it…the government shutdown.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 home improvement stores player that’s starting to move within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade is Tile Shop (TTS), which operates as a specialty retailer of manufactured and natural stone tiles, setting and maintenance materials, and related accessories in the U.S. This stock has been hammered lower over the last six months, with shares down sharply by 40%.

If you look at the chart for Tile Shop, you’ll notice that this stock has been trending sideways over the last few weeks, with shares moving between $9.11 on the upside and $8.16 on the downside. This trend is occurring below both of TTS’s 50-day and 200-day moving averages, although the 50-day moving average is not far off from current levels. Shares of TTS are now starting to bounce a bit above the lower-end of its range and it’s begging to approach a breakout trade.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in TTS if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $8.68 to $9.11 a share and then above its 50-day moving average of $9.20 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 501,409 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then TTS will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $10.14 to $11.19 a share.

Traders can look to buy TTS off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support at $8.16 a share. One can also buy TTS off strength once it starts to bust above those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

One home improvement stores player that insiders are active in here is Tile Shop (TTS), which operates as a specialty retailer of manufactured and natural stone tiles, setting and maintenance materials, and related accessories in the U.S. Insiders are buying this stock into major weakness, since shares are off by 38% so far in 2014.

Tile Shop has a market cap of $573 million and an enterprise value of $652 million. This stock trades at a premium valuation, with a trailing price-to-earnings of 45 and a forward price-to-earnings of 26. Its estimated growth rate for this year is -20.5%, and for next year it’s pegged at 35.5%. This is not a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $3.53 million and its total debt is $96.15 million.

A director just bought 70,000 shares, or about $683,000 worth of stock, at $9.77 per share.

From a technical perspective, TTS is currently trending below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is bearish. This stock has been uptrending over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $9.06 to its recent high of $11.58 a share. During that uptrend, shares of TTS have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of TTS within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

If you’re bullish on TTS, then I would look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above some near-term support at $10.50 and then once it breaks out above some near-term overhead resistance at $11.58 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 688,592 shares. If that breakout materializes soon, then TTS will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $12 to its 50-day moving average of $12.99. Any high-volume move above $12.99 will then gi

The Telecommunications and Media division of the Group comprises two companies: TF1, specializing in audiovisual and cinema production, the acquisition and sale of audiovisual rights, and the publishing and distribution of compact discs, among others, and Bouygues Telecom, which offers mobile telephone and broadband Internet services. Advisors’ Opinion:

I normally don’t look at charts much, but comparing Orange to its competitors in the French telecommunications market is quite fascinating. As one can see, incumbents Bouygues (BOUYF.PK) and Vivendi (VIVHY.PK) (owner of SFR) saw similar price declines. The market, on the other hand, rapidly bid up the price of new entrant Iliad SA (ILIAF.PK), as a result of forecasts for Iliad to capture significant mobile market share (which it did, around 10%). The wide divergence in price relative to changes in underlying value favor going long the incumbents, including Orange. Because this time it’s different.

Assa Abloy AB is a Sweden-based company engaged in the secure door opening solutions. It is organized into five divisions: Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), North and South America (Americas), Asia, Australia and New Zealand (Asia Pacific), Global Technologies and Entrance Systems. The EMEA, Americas and Asia Pacific divisions manufacture mechanical and electromechanical locks, security doors and hardware in their respective geographical markets. The Global Technologies division operates in the product areas of access control systems, secure card issuance, identification technology and hotel locks. The Entrance Systems division is a supplier of entrance automation products and services. The Company’s subsidiaries include ASSA Sverige AB, Timelox AB and ABLOY Holdings Ltd., among others. In November 2013, it acquired Ameristar Fence Products Inc, a manufacturer of ornamental fences and gates. In January 2014, it acquired IdenTrust. In February 2014, it acquired Lumidigm . Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Weighing Machine]

Domiciled in Sweden, Assa Abloy (ASAZY.PK) is the largest lock maker in the world with a global market share of nearly 12%. While the construction market has been difficult since the financial crisis, Assa has continued to increase revenue and operating profit every year since 2010 and is on track to do so again in 2013. While commercial construction has been subdued, the aftermarket (which represents ~70% of the total lock market) is driven by changes in tenancy, renovation, and extensions have not been very cyclical and provides the company with a steady stream of profits. Assa has been cobbled together through 150+ acquisitions since the early 1990s and while management has done a good job of rationalizing facilities, there remain opportunities to increase manufacturing efficiencies. Similarly, the company’s back office is still running dozens of IT systems (as a result of acquisitions) but management plans to consolidate these over the next few years. Further, Assa rem ains an active consolidator of the locks industry – it should be able to add 5% per year to sales via acquisitions (as an aside, those interested in micro-caps should have a look at Securidev in France which trades at less than half the private market value Assa has paid for lock makers on average over the past decade). Having the highest margins in the industry, Assa is able to achieve significant synergies on acquired businesses and earn good returns on capital for its shareholders through M&A. Thus even in a difficult economy, we expect Assa will continue to grow its operating profit given its steady after market revenue, opportunity to improve results through cost cutting, and through value accretive M&A. While its shares are not cheap, at 19x earnings, shares could offer investors with a five year holding period and an 8-10% annualized return.
