Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX  ) is still trying to make things right with your kids, and for now the apology’s resulting in Netflix stock closing 7% higher today.

Less than a month after showing Viacom’s (NASDAQ: VIA  ) Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. content the exit door of its virtual vault, the world’s leading video-streaming service is expanding its partnership with DreamWorks Animation (NASDAQ: DWA  ) .

The multiyear deal announced this morning calls for 300 hours of new programming streaming exclusively on Netflix starting next year.

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation already have a deal in place for Turbo: F.A.S.T. to stream on Netflix come December. The show — based on a movie that the studio is putting out next month about a speedy snail in a racing circuit — was announced in February. The two companies also teamed up for a multiyear streaming deal for DreamWorks Animation’s theatrical releases before that.

However, this particular deal will expand on Turbo F.A.S.T. by featuring episodic television show content. This is where Netflix’s biggest void is after losing SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and other beloved Nickelodeon shows late last month.

We’re seeing the exact same setup in shares of Stericycle (SRCL), but with one big difference: This stock hasn’t broken out yet. Stericycle is another ascending triangle pattern, in this case with a resistance level at $120. A breakout above that $120 price ceiling is the signal that it’s time to take this trade.

Whenever you’re looking at any technical price pattern, it’s critical to think in terms of buyers and sellers. Triangles and other pattern names are a good quick way to explain what’s going on in a stock, but they’re not the reason it’s tradable – instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.

That $120 resistance level is a price where there has been an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it’s a place where sellers have been more eager to step in and take gains than buyers have been to buy. That’s what makes a breakout above it so significant — the move means that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level.

Don’t be early on the SRCL trade.

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

First up is $10 billion medial waste disposal company Stericycle (SRCL). While SRCL has more or less only kept pace with the broad market in 2013, shares are at the point where they’re looking primed to pop into December trading. Here’s why.

Stericycle is currently forming an ascending triangle setup, a bullish price pattern that’s formed by a horizontal resistance level above shares at $120 and uptrending support to the downside. Basically, as SRCL bounces in between those two technically-important price levels, it’s getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakout above the $120 level. When that breakout happens, we’ve got a buy signal.

Whenever you’re looking at any technical price pattern, it’s critical to think in terms of those buyers and sellers. Triangles and other pattern names are a good quick way to explain what’s going on in a stock, but they’re not the reason it’s tradable – instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.

That $57 resistance level is a price where there has been an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it’s a place where sellers have been more eager to step in and take gains than buyers have been to buy. That’s what makes a breakout above it so significant — the move means that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level.

Since HSBC is a longer-term pattern, the 200-day moving average is the spot to keep a stop loss after buying. It’s been a pretty good proxy for support on the way up.

We initiated investments in Google (GOOG), as well as the advertising agencies Interpublic (IPG) and WPP (WPP). The fortunes of all three are tied directly to the level of global advertising spend, and they all saw their shares prices decline due to concerns of a recession-related slowdown. At our purchase price, we believe we were buying each at roughly 11-13x our estimated earnings for 2012 should the fears of a macroeconomic slowdown prove correct. This strikes us as a very reasonable multiple to pay for asset-light global businesses that generate strong free cash flow across the business cycle and have the capability to grow earnings greater than GDP in a normal economic environment.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Robert Rapier]

Tallgrass Energy Partners (NYSE: TEP) is a midstream limited partnership that provides natural gas transportation and storage services in the Rocky Mountain and Midwest regions of the US. The partnership launched on May 13, 2013 and in late June increased EBITDA guidance above analysts’ expectations, causing units to climb nearly 21 percent by year-end. In December TEP reiterated guidance for 1.2x distribution coverage for the entire year. The partnership recently declared a distribution of $0.3150 per unit for the fourth quarter of 2013 – a 5.9 percent increase from the Q3 2013 distribution. TEP’s annualized yield based on the most recent distribution is 4.8 percent, its current EV is $1.28 billion and its total debt/equity (mrq) is 30.5 percent.

  • [By Robert Rapier] There were a half a dozen initial public offerings (IPOs) by master limited partnerships in the first half of the year, and all but one are now in the green while one has nearly doubled in value.

The first MLP IPO of 2013 debuted on Jan. 15. USA Compression Partners (NYSE: USAC), which I mentioned in last week’s issue, provides compression services for the oil and gas industry. Units have advanced 36 percent since the IPO, and at the current price yield 7.3 percent.

The day after the USA Compression Partners IPO, CVR Refining (NYSE: CVRR) made its debut.  CVRR was spun off from CVR Energy (NYSE: CVI), and both companies remain majority-owned by Carl Icahn. CVR Refining’s primary assets are two refineries located in Kansas and Oklahoma with a combined processing capacity of approximately 185,000 barrels per day (bpd). These refineries are strategically located near the major Cushing, Oklahoma shipment and storage hub, with easy access to discount ed feedstock from the nearby Permian basin, as well as the Bakken shale and Canadian oil sands.

But refiners have struggled with diminished margins in 2013 because of a much lower Brent-WTI differential. After the recently concluded second quarter, CVRR declared a distribution of $1.35 per unit, bringing its per-unit distributions for the first half of the year to $2.93. At the same time, CVR Refining lowered its annual distribution target to a range of $4.10 to $4.80 per unit. This was lower than the outlook issued in March, when it foresaw annual distributions of $5.50 to $6.50. CVRR units slid on the news, and are presently trading slightly below the $25 IPO price. The lower end of the revised forecast implies distributions of $1.17 per unit in the second half of the year, for a forward annualized yield of 10 percent based on the recent $23.50 unit price.

With 34% gaming taxes, compared to Macao’s 39%, the Singapore operation is the company’s fastest growing business segment, and will continue to drive excessive EBITDA margins of 53.6% until 2018, when the casino license expires. Advisors’ Opinion:

In our September chat, I was asked about Memorial Production Partners (Nasdaq: MEMP), another upstream MLP like BreitBurn Energy Partners (Nasdaq: BBEP). I addressed this question in the September article Upstream Turbulence Yields Bargains, writing that Breitburn looked attractive as a cheaper alternative to MEMP. Since that time, MEMP is down 0.6 percent and BBEP is up 6.4 percent. So the discount has narrowed somewhat since September.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

Among its peers in the MLP and LLC space, LINN by far hedges the most production. BreitBurn Energy Partners (NASDAQ: BBEP  ) , for example, has hedged roughly 75% of its production through 2015, whereas LINN is 100% hedged through 2016. BreitBurn almost exclusively uses swaps as its hedge of choice. It’s a similar story at Vanguard Natural Resources (NASDAQ: VNR  ) , which also uses swaps to almost exclusively hedge natural gas while using three-way collars to hedge about a third of its oil production. While LINN could get more creative, one thing I’d be surprised to hear is that it’s going to join these two peers and leave some of its production unhedged.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

Its success has not gone unnoticed by its peers which is why a strategy shift might not be limited to just Vanguard. I’m interested to hear what BreitBurn’s (NASDAQ: BBEP  ) management has to say when it reports earnings on May 3. The company has already declared its first-quarter distribution so a switch to monthly payouts probably isn’t on the table just yet. However, given its ramp-up in growth spending last year, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear mention of a possible BreitCo.
