Top 10 Cheap Companies To Buy For 2015

For the last year, through the first calendar quarter of 2013, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) has generated about $76 billion in revenues, so why would a mere $1.19 billion in sales in what is now a relatively minor $13.1 billion market, according to recent data from Gartner, warrant investor discussion? Or take the case of IBM (NYSE: IBM  ) and its $104.5 billion in annual revenues in 2012. Its paltry $1.63 billion piece of this particular pie hardly makes a dent, so what’s the big deal?

For both Microsoft and IBM, there are a couple of reasons those “meager” results are big deals: One, the growth comes in the business intelligence (BI) market, which includes big data and cloud computing, both areas with tremendous upside potential. Secondly, the $1.19 billion in revenues for Microsoft and the $1.63 billion for IBM constitute a 12.2% and 9.9% jump from 2011 results, respectively. Both year-over-year growth percentages are easily the best of the BI bunch.

Once again, that leaves KR stock vulnerable on valuation, with shares fetching a 24% premium to their own five-year average by forward earnings, according to Thomson Reuters Stock Reports. At the same time, operationally, everyone is gunning for KR. Private equity firm Cerberus is buying Safeway (SWY) and already owns Albertsons. That’s a formidable rival. And Whole Foods (WFM) is rethinking prices after a poor quarterly showing.

The stock market went through a topsy-turvy day Wednesday, as optimism about a potential resolution to the Ukrainian situation trumped nervousness over how the Federal Reserve might address certain risks that Chairwoman Janet Yellen brought up in Congressional testimony today. Even though the broader major-market indexes closed higher, Groupon (NASDAQ: GRPN  ) , Zulily (NASDAQ: ZU  ) , and Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFM  ) plunged today.

Stocks rebounded from yesterday’s stumble today, advancing on Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s firm but vague vows to keep interest rates at historical lows. How was she firm, yet vague, simultaneously? She was unwavering in her conviction that rates should remain low, but absolutely noncommittal when pressed on how long those policies should continue. Though she caught some flak for being evasive, monetary policy would cease to be effective if it were precisely choreographed ages in advance. Though Wall Street received Yellen’s remarks well, it cringed at the sight of Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFM  ) , Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO  ) , and First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR  ) today, and each stock finished near the bottom of the S&P 500 Index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC  ) . The S&P, for its part, added 10 points, or 0.6%, to end at 1,878.

Joe Raedle/Getty Images | Rumors about the demise of U.S. gasoline demand have been greatly exaggerated. Until late 2013, most energy observers forecast the world’s most reliably gas-guzzling market to consume less fuel this year. What was once thought to be a structural decline in demand, however, has proven more durable than expected. As the summer driving season nears, retail gas remains stubbornly lodged near $4 a gallon. According to the Energy Information Administration, gas prices rose for 12 straight weeks through late April, and were 20 cents a gallon higher than the same point last year. So what gives? “The world’s not swimming in crude or gasoline yet,” said Francisco Blanch, commodities strategist at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, in an interview. “Despite all the crude and gasoline production in the U.S., international markets are not tagging along.” International developments matter, analysts say, because gas prices are linked to internationally priced Brent crude. Turmoil in Ukraine and spotty supply from the perennially unstable Middle East has conspired to keep oil above $100 a barrel. In a research note this week, analysts at Goldman Sachs (GS) called crude oil fundamentals “stable but tight,” adding that most developed-economy stockpiles “remain at low levels” amid lower-than-expected output from hotspots like Libya and Iraq. That backdrop explains why prices at the pump have defied the gravitational pull of a litany of mitigating factors such as a more fuel-efficient U.S. car fleet, rising domestic production and a still-fragile recovery that should blunt demand. Bank of America-Merrill (BAC) points out that domestic oil and gas production has driven gasoline imports to near zero, while the U.S. is churning out nearly 10 million barrels a day. Despite all this, there has been little relief at the pump due largely to factors outside America’s control. The International Energy Agency said in its most recent report that OPEC will

If you listened to my bullish calls from December 27th and/or February 24th about Uranerz Energy Corp. (NYSEMKT:URZ), Uranium Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:URRE), and Ur-Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT:URG), then congratulations – you’re now up as much as 50%, depending on when you stepped into a trade, and which stock you chose. Now get out. See, as well as URZ and URG have done and are doing (URRE not so much), it looks like the short-term rally I first spotted a little more than a couple of months ago has fully run its course, and now these names are setting up a pullback.

Well, I’ll give myself an A for effort, but a C- for timing. But, I can bump that C- up to a B+ if my intuition is right as we head into the last few days of 2013 and the first few of 2014. What I’m talking about is a bullish commentary I penned back on November 26th regarding Uranerz Energy Corp. (NYSEMKT:URZ), Uranium Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:URRE), and Ur-Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT:URG). All three stocks were perking up, and more than that, the buzz surrounding URG, URRE, and URZ was getting louder. More often than not, when the fervor and bullish action and chatter reaches the levels they had reached a month ago, an explosion is right around the corner.

You know, were it just Uranium Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:URRE) or just Ur-Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT:URG) or just Uranerz Energy Corp. (NYSEMKT:URZ) making a decided bullish move, I might be able to dismiss it. Similarly, if URZ had only been moving higher for one or two days (or only URG or only URRE), it might be easy to not be impressed. Neither of those situations has been the actual case, however. All three stocks have been moving upward for several days now, quite a bit, on noticeably higher volume. There’s something “going on”, as it were, and if prior group-wide movements are any clue, it’s the kind of move worth tapping into.
