Best Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2019

In some cases, something you don’t really want becomes a value if the price gets low enough. That explains some fast-food value menus, and it contributes to the appeal of dollar stores.

But there are other items — think Miami Marlins tickets or a bottle of Mountain Dew — that you don’t want no matter the price. Something you don’t want doesn’t become a deal because it’s cheap. It becomes a burden you’re stuck with, like an ugly painting you have to hang up every time the aunt who gave it to you visits.

In my view, Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR) is all of those terrible things. Yes, it’s cheap, but that should not tempt investors. Buying a stock at a low price makes sense if there’s a reasonable expectation it will rise. Frontier seems like a deal compared with high-flying T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS), but as I see it, that’s like saying a broken-down scooter is a good deal compared with a new Porsche.

The Top Cryptocurrency Stories for Wednesday
Yesterday, one of Bitcoin’s biggest proponents once again released an extremely bullish outlook on the cryptocurrency. Billionaire investor Tim Draper said Tuesday that “Bitcoin is bigger than the Internet,” and he also said its influence will be even bigger than the Industrial Revolution, the Renaissance, and the Iron Age. The statement comes after he released a recent price target of $250,000 by 2022. Not everyone is buying into Bitcoin’s post-tax season rally. Bill Harris, the former CEO of PayPal Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: PYPL) and Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), sounded off Tuesday in an op-ed piece titled “Bitcoin Is the Greatest Scam in History.” Harris called the cryptocurrency a “colossal pump-and-dump scheme” that has no precedent on the world stage. Bitcoin proponents immediately took to social media and online blogs to refute Harris’ arguments. Forbes contributor Kyle Torpey vented that Harris’ focus was misguided and took special issue with his claim that “Bitcoin has no value.” The crypto world has identified JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon as public enemy No. 1. Computer security pioneer and cryptocurrency guru John McAfee called out Dimon for attempting – and failing – to “end crypto.” McAfee lobbed a slew of accusations at the big banker via Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR). Finally, it wouldn’t be another day in the cryptocurrency markets without another unprovoked threat to Bitcoin. The latest comes from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In a recent issue of the MIT Technology Review, writers presented three scenarios that could “destroy Bitcoin.” The scenarios include a “government takeover” of the cryptocurrency, the “tokenization of everything” that involves a massive influx of tokens and makes Bitcoin less valuable, and a mas

The news wasn’t all good early Thursday. Results from J.C. Penney Company Inc. (NYSE: JCP) appeared to disappoint investors, who sent shares down more than 11 percent in pre-market futures trading. The company said in a press release that its overall top-line sales came in below management’s expectations, blaming cold April weather. We’re not done with retail yet. Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) reports after the close today.

  • [By Douglas A. McIntyre]

Nordstrom Inc. (NYSE: JWN) may reopen plans for a leveraged buyout after good holiday results. According to The Wall Street Journal:

The failed effort by the Nordstrom family to take the namesake department store chain private will be remembered as a missed opportunity amid the selloff in retailers’ stocks last fall.

  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) returned to earnings growth last quarter, as the reduced corporate tax rate helped the upscale retailer post a double-digit increase in earnings per share. Investors still dumped Nordstrom stock in after-hours trading on Thursday, punishing the company for weak comparable-store sales growth.

  • [By John Ballard]

However, whether because of the tax act passed late last year, or something else, consumers are starting to shop again. And that is starting to benefit traditional department stores like Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) and Macy’s (NYSE:M). Both retailers have posted growth in comparable-store sales and have a strategy to increase their business online, where more people are choosing to shop.

Best Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2019: Zillow Group, Inc.(Z)

Advisors’ Opinion:

First, they review the second-quarter data from online real estate giant Zillow Group (NASDAQ:Z) (NASDAQ:ZG), which was bad, and its plan ahead, which looks scary. The company missed on revenue, and its guidance was weak, too, which would have been enough on its own to push shares lower. But the revelation that it was buying Mortgage Lenders of America did it no favors either. As Zillow moves into lending and house flipping, there’s a lot of fear among investors that it’s trying to elbow its way into some already crowded spaces where it’s strengths won’t translate.

  • [By Chris Hill]

Hill: Zillow’s (NASDAQ:Z) (NASDAQ:ZG) second quarter revenue came in lower than expected. Shares of the real estate website operator down 14% this week. Jason, it was not just the weak revenue that Wall Street didn’t like.

Zillow (NASDAQ:Z) (NASDAQ:ZG) CEO Spencer Rascoff cleared up some misconceptions about his company’s new homebuying and mortgage origination operations during its second-quarter earnings call. Investors may be underestimating just how large these businesses could become in the years ahead.

The ongoing trade rift between the United States and China continues to plague international markets. Despite reports that both countries are working behind the scenes to prevent additional detrimental trade policies, both countries recently proposed tens of billions in new tariffs on one another. The United States has accused China of widespread intellectual property theft, while China has accused the United States of unfair trade practices, including price manipulation in the agricultural industry. This morning, it’s worth noting that proposed tariffs on U.S. business jets will likely not provide a competitive advantage to foreign competition. Reuters reports that Chinese aviation executives do not see the layer of protectionism as a way to bolster the nation’s local market. Check back to Money Morning today for more insight on how the ongoing trade war could affect your investments.
Finally, investors will continue to monitor ongoing developments in Washington around the presidency of Donald Trump. The White House has asked a federal judge to block prosecutors from reviewing any files seized from his lawyer’s office during a raid by the FBI last week. The agency seized a trove of documents from lawyer Michael Cohen’s office as part of an investigation into a payment of hush money. The spat between the White House and the FBI continues a day after former FBI Director James Comey called Trump “morally unfit to be president.”

Hot Bank Stocks To Buy For 2019

There was a good question from Bloomberg’s Tom Keene to Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer. The Fed Vice Chair was asked can the Fed do “one and done” or are they forced to do multiple hikes. Based on where we stand by historical standards the Fed is likely forced into a sequence of multiple hikes which we will show graphically. Ultimately that is a major drag on markets (NYSEARCA:SPY).

Let’s first review what was asked and answered.

Tom Keene of Bloomberg asked,

“When there is a rate increase could you and Chair Yellen frame a one off event or are you forced into a measured, a higher vector of rate increases? Can you do one and done or even two and done or do you have to go to a measured set of rate increases like we saw a decade ago?”

Of which the Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer answered:

“The work of the central bank is never done and I don’t think you can say one and done and that’s it. We can choose the pace but we choose that on the basis of data that are coming in. So I don’t think we know at the time we start whether it’s one and done or several. It depends entirely on what’s happening in the economy.”

U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on imported steel and aluminum are creating tremendous profit opportunities in steel and aluminum stocks.

However, the best tariff stock to buy isn’t in the steel or aluminum industry – it’s a tech company positioned to revolutionize steel production and produce explosive profits while doing it.

You see, while tariffs may boost American steel production in the short term, both American and Chinese steel manufactures are turning to technology in an effort to lower costs, generate sustainable profits, and take advantage of a rapidly changing global economic landscape in the long term.

Unfortunately, in most cases, resistance is inevitable at some point, even if you attain a strong response that lasts a while. It is a near-truism that patients will eventually acquire resistance to kinase inhibitors, except in rare exceptional circumstances and treatment settings like chronic myeloid leukemia, where a lot of patients can have a persistent remission for years and years.

As I picked through 2017&s;s ETF winners and losers one last time, some very interesting situations popped out at me. &a;nbsp;I actively track about 100 ETFs that represent different investment categories, themes, asset classes or sectors. &a;nbsp;Collectively, that group of 100 ETFs allows me to get a wide perspective on where returns are being made…and where they are not.

Now, I may not be the first one to tell you that simply looking at past returns is not a way to invest, even though I believe that the majority of investors and financial advisors do prioritize that (to their ultimate detriment). &a;nbsp; What I will highlight here are some ETFs that, through their returns and return patterns last year, tell us a&a;nbsp;&l;span&g;lot about market sentiment and possibly where some extremely overvalued and undervalued market areas lie&l;/span&g;. &a;nbsp; You see, market sectors often move from one extreme to the other over time.&a;nbsp; So while Wall Street analysts try to determine &a;ldquo;fair value&a;rdquo; of stocks, sectors and the broad market, prices don&a;rsquo;t care, and often overshoot targets in both directions.

Wall Street suffered a sharp drop on Tuesday, with major benchmarks posting substantial declines in response to a combination of economic factors. The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond climbed above 3% for the first time since 2014, but of greater concern to many market participants were remarks in major corporate earnings reports suggesting that business conditions had likely hit their peak and were poised to deteriorate going forward. With raw materials costs starting to pick up, many manufacturers are reporting inflationary pressures that could hurt profits. Yet even as the broader indexes fell, some individual companies had good news to report. Sanmina (NASDAQ:SANM), Helix Energy Solutions (NYSE:HLX), and Weatherford International (NYSE:WFT) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Top 5 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch For 2018: Allstate Corporation (ALL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shauna O’Brien]

Credit Suisse reported on Thursday that it has raised its estimates on insurance company The Allstate Corporation (ALL).

The firm has raised its price target on ALL to $62. This price target suggests a 16% upside from the stock’s current price of $52.23. Analysts currently have an “Outperform” rating on ALL.

Credit Suisse has also boosted estimates on ALL as its management is increasing returns.

Allstate shares were up 32 cents, or 0.62%, during Thursday morning trading. The stock is up 30% YTD.

Wells Fargo analysts see a number of upside catalysts for The Allstate Corporation (ALL), plus a positive trend for automobile insurers as a whole. As such, the analysts upgraded the insurance provider on Thursday.

The analysts upgraded ALL from “Market Perform” to “Outperform” and boosted its valuation range from $48-$52 to $58-$62. This new valuation range suggests a 16% to 24% upside to the stock’s Wednesday closing price of $50.11.

“We are upgrading the shares of Allstate to Outperform from Market Perform on the basis of several fundamental reasons unique to the company as well as several positive, emerging structural trends for auto insurers in general,” Wells Fargo analyst John Hall stated. “We do not believe that the market has yet paid for potential unit growth within Allstate’s branded standard book of auto insurance, something we envision occurring over the next 6-12 months.”

As for some of the positive personal auto insurance sector trends, Hall noted, “These would include shifting demographics toward a safer driving population mix (more old drivers and fewer young drivers), changing driving habits particularly among millennials, a safer U.S. personal auto fleet, rising car sales pointing to positive symbol shift as well as industry conditions encouraging market share consolidation.”

Wells Fargo boosted Allstate’s 2013 EPS estimates from $4.62 to $4.85 and 2014 EPS estimates from $4.85 to $5.20.

Allstate shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading on Thursday. The stock is up 24.74% year-to-date.

Top 5 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch For 2018: Transcananda Pipelines Ltd.(TRP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

In a number of articles recently, following the US recent revival and potential approval of the previously blocked Keystone XL pipeline, a number of estimates have been provided suggesting a pending boom for the US steel industry is on the horizon (and US steel stocks have reacted in kind). In fact, this optimism, we believe, peaked today when a report from one of our competitors was published claiming that, the keystone XL pipeline could increase line pipe demand by 14.7% for 2 years. The problem here, we believe, rests with the facts that: (a) TransCanada (TRP) has already taken, and paid for, the steel to build the Keystone XL pipeline (the steel currently sits in storage facilities in both Regina, Canada and Arkansas, United States), (b) neither US Steel (X; SELL), AK Steel, Steel Dynamics, or Nucor have the ability to make the specialized steel required for the miles of pipe associated with this project, to include both the thickness and pressure requirements, according to this article from Reuters, and (c) assuming some of the pipe does need replacement, this would likely come from international steel makers who are capable of producing the specialized steel (again, as highlighted in this Reuters article).

  • [By Paul Ausick]

That includes pipeline companies like Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI), which already operates a pipeline transporting natural gas from Texas into Mexico, and master limited partnerships (MLPs) Energy Transfer Partners L.P. (NYSE: ETP) and TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP), the company that has (so far) failed to get U.S. approval for its Keystone Pipeline expansion from Canada’s oil sands across the U.S. border.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

After a series of setbacks in its attempts to build new oil pipelines, Canadian pipeline giant TransCanada (NYSE:TRP) completed a transformation transaction to acquire U.S. natural gas pipeline company Columbia Pipeline Group for $13 billion, which includes the assumption of debt. The key to that deal was that it increased the combined company’s near-term project pipeline to 23 billion Canadian dollars, which supports TransCanada’s ability to increase its dividend by 8% to 10% annually through 2020. After completing that deal, TransCanada made a bid to acquire all of the outstanding units that it did not own of affiliated MLP Columbia Pipeline Partners (NYSE:CPPL) in a transaction valued at $915 million. These acquisitions solidified TransCanada’s natural gas pipeline growth ambitions, enabling it to diversify away from oil pipelines.

Most investors have probably heard of energy giants Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS-A) (NYSE:RDS-B), Dominion Energy (NYSE:D), and TransCanada (NYSE:TRP). Fewer, however, are likely familiar with their publicly traded master limited partnerships (MLPs): Shell Midstream Partners (NYSE:SHLX), Dominion Energy Midstream Partners (NYSE:DM), and TC Pipelines (NYSE:TCP). That might be a good thing, as the market has beaten up the latter trio this year, sending their valuations south.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Energy infrastructure companies ONEOK (NYSE:OKE) and TransCanada (NYSE:TRP) are both emerging from the energy market downturn as stronger entities. Each made smart acquisitions, with TransCanada buying U.S. gas pipeline company Columbia Pipeline Group, while ONEOK is in the process of gobbling up its MLP,ONEOK Partners (NYSE:OKS). While these deals enhanced the growth profiles of both companies, TransCanada still stands out as the better buy for long-term income investors. Here’s why.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

In addition to the Trans Mountain system, two other pipeline projects currently are proposed to move crude oil from Alberta either to the Great Lakes or the Gulf Coast. Enbridge Inc. (NYSE: ENB) is proposing to replace its 50-year old Line 3 system to transport 760,000 barrels a day to Superior, Wisconsin. TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) has received approval from the Trump administration and would transport 830,000 barrels a day to Nebraska where existing pipelines will take over, sending the crude to U.S. refineries and Gulf Coast terminals.

Top 5 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch For 2018: Brookfield Renewable Powerr Fund(BEP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Timothy Green, Matthew DiLallo, and Nicholas Rossolillo]

Of course, holding on to the wrong stock for decades can be disastrous, so it’s critical that you’re picky about your long-term investments. If you’re short on ideas, three of our contributors think Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP), Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.B), and Booking Holdings (NASDAQ:BKNG) are fantastic options.

  • [By Federico Zaldua]

I expect the Brookfield Group of Companies, which is composed of no fewer than 15 publicly traded entities, to be very active acquisitive in the near-term future. Here I focus my attention on three members of the Brookfield Group that are going to be the most active with M&A. While Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) will concentrate its M&A efforts into all geographies and all asset classes, Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners (BEP) and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (BIP) will concentrate on their respective industries. Let’s see whether you should go long on any of this separate -although related – entities.

    Good Operational Performance

Brookfield Asset Management, held by Lou Simpson and Ron Baron, counts with a liquidity position of more than $5 billion at the parent and principal subsidiaries along with nearly $10 billion drawable private fund commitments. More importantly, the company has expressed its interest into using this liquidity to make acquisitions. Management clearly stated in its letter to shareholders:

Zillow reports 22% revenue growth

Real estate services specialist Zillow’s first-quarter earnings met expectations for revenue and beat on the bottom line, but the company announced soft guidance and the departure of its chief financial officer, and Class C shares fell 1.5%. Revenue grew 22% to $299.9 million. The company is not profitable on a GAAP basis, but adjusted earnings came in at $0.07, a penny better than analysts were predicting.

Premier agent revenue grew 22% to $213.7 million and rentals revenue increased 35% to $29.1 million. Average monthly unique users grew 5% to 175.5 million, and visits jumped 15%.

Looking forward, Zillow guided to Q2 revenue of between $322 million to $327 million, well below the analyst consensus of $355 million. The company did raise its revenue guidance for the full year, though, from a range of $1.3 billion to $1.32 billion estimated last quarterto $1.43 billion to $1.58 billion.

“This year, we are taking our business beyond lead generation by creating better experiences for consumers and further strengthening our partnerships with real estate professionals,” said CEOSpencer Rascoff in the press release. “Our opportunity is expanding with the introduction of innovative products and services, like Zillow Instant Offers, that provide end-to-end solutions for consumers and will generate more home-related transactions across our platforms.”

Last month the company unveiled its Instant Offers program, which spooked investors concerned about capital requirements and risk, although the stock recovered in the weeks to follow. The earnings report today offered little in the way of surprises, and investors took it in stride.

Camping World tumbles on RV price worries

Shares of Camping World Holdings plunged 16.7% after the company reported first-quarter results that got investors worried about slowing same-store sales growth due to falling RV prices. Revenue increased 20.4% to $1.06 billion, edging out the analyst consensus of $1.05 billion. Adjusted EPS grew 9.7% to $0.41, missing expectations by $0.01.

Same-store sales increased 3.9%, below the 11.9% gain last quarter and the 9.6% increase in the period a year earlier. The number of RVs sold grew 21%, but average selling prices fell 4.3%. Factoring into the same-store sales growth was a 22% increase in finance and insurance sales.

Weather was also cited as a factor. “While the unseasonably cold weather throughout a good portion of the country has likely impacted the early part of the peak selling season, we believe the backdrop across the RV industry remains strong and we continue to plan our business around a mid-single digit increase in same store sales in 2018,” said CEO Marcus Lemonis in the press release.

Camping World’s strategy is to be the price leader on vehicles while cross-selling services and accessories. Despite decent sales growth, investors were worriedabout the lower average selling prices headed into the critical summer sales period, and bid the stock down to only eight times estimated 2018 earnings.

Hot Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now

Insys Therapeutics (NASDAQ:INSY) has been bombarded with negative headlines over the last few months. Most of these stories focus on the past, what former employees did, etc. They have no bearing on the firm’s asset value or ability to generate profits in the future. As a result, Insys stock has become undervalued, and this is a good entry point

I believe this stock is the single best way for investors to bet on the growing medical cannabis industry. Insys Therapeutics offers fantastic value, based on its robust pipeline that makes growth look inevitable.

This company is the best option for those who believe in the efficacy of medical marijuana and don’t want to wait years to get returns on their investment.

Hot Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now: Pinnacle Entertainment Inc.(PNK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Pinnacle Entertainment (PNK) has gained 56% this year; Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has climbed 38%. And Deutsche Bank has nice things to say about both today.

    Bloomberg

First Pinnacle. Deutsche Bank’s Carlo Santarelli ponders the stock’s big move and comes away still seeing value in its shares. He writes:

When we upgraded PNK in April, our thesis centered on the FCF strength of the combined entities [Pinnacle completed its acquisition of Ameristar Casinos on Aug. 14], a handful of favorable catalysts, easing regional gaming comps, & an inexpensive relative valuation. Given the shares’ sizeable move since then, we believe it is worth revisiting the investment case. Post the announcement of several asset sales and the closing of the transaction, we are adjusting our estimates, raising our PT to $30 from $24, and maintaining our bullish view at current levels given what we still believe to be an attractive free cash flow valuation, meaningful potential synergy realization beyond the $40 mm of announced benefits, and a free option on a lagging regional recovery.

Santarelli also revisited Las Vegas Sands and there too, he likes what he sees. He writes:

With…LVS at [a share price level] that have been challenging to break from over the last year plus, we believe this time is different and hence we see continued upward momentum…In the case of LVS, we see; 1) meaningful mass market strength continuing through year end, setting the stage for upward company and market estimate revisions for 2014, 2) continued cash flow appreciation and capital returns serving as downside protection and positive catalysts, and 3) continued shared gains, largely driven by table optimization and mass market strength, driving both estimates and sentiment.

He also likes Wynn Resorts (WYNN), despite its 34% gain.Santarelli writes:

As for WYNN, we believe near-term estimates continue to take a back seat to capital return

Valeant’s other sale of CeraVe and several other skin care assets to L’Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCY) for $1.3B is even more spectacular. It is almost eight times the $150M Valeant spent to buy these assets between 2008 and 2012 according to this source. “Lost value” indeed. The sales price is ~20x EBITDA, showing that Valeant has received a very good price for these assets. The latest implied forward rate forecast from Kamakura Corporation shows projected 10-year U.S. Treasury yields differing -0.07% to 0.03% from last week while fixed rate mortgage yields varied by -0.01% to 0.08%. Mortgage yields, determined by the Monday through Wednesday weekly survey of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, lag Treasury movements simply because of the 3-day yield calculation used in the Primary Mortgage Market Survey. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is projected to rise from 2.92% at Thursday’s close (down 0.06% from last week) to 3.374% (down 0.06% from last week) in one year. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield in ten years is forecast to reach 4.639%, 1 basis point lower than last week. The 15-year fixed rate mortgage rate is forecast to rise from the effective yield of 3.69% on Thursday (down 0.001% from last week) to 4.222% (down 0.006% from last week) in one year and 6.29% in 10 years, up 0.038% from last week. We explain the background for these calculations in the rest of this note, along with some mortgage servicing rights metrics. The forecast allows investors in exchange traded U.S. Treasury funds (TLT) (TBT), total return bond funds (BOND), municipal bonds (NUV) and exchange traded mortgage funds (REM) to assess likely total returns over the next 120 months. Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Should oil prices recover, we believe that deepwater drilling activity growth should lag growth in US shale activity, as project economics is generally better in US shales, and E&Ps involved in US shales are generally quicker to react. Deepwater activity is largely comprises a handful of companies (Petrobras (PBR), Statoil (STO), Total (TOT), Shell (RDS.A), BP (BP), ONGC, ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX)) and it is unlikely that these companies can meaningfully increase their rig demand in a short period of time to absorb the current oversupply. Thus, should oil prices rise in 2018, rig demand may increase, but likely not enough to tighten the market, given that supply equaling 43% of current working rig count is stacked and new supply equaling 25% of working rig count is under-construction and should be entering the market in the coming years. As a result, while we expect some improvement in rig utilization owing to rig retirements, it will unlikely be strong enough to meaningfully improve rates in 2018 above spot levels. Any demand increase in the interim could slow rig retirements materially, and be self-defeating. We thus are Sell rated on Transocean, Atwood and Noble.
