Top Casino Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc(HMNY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Daniel Sparks]

Shares of Helios and Matheson Analytics (NASDAQ:HMNY) — parent company of movie theater subscription service MoviePass — were slammed on Monday, falling as much as 32.3%. At the time of this writing, the stock is down 29%.

  • [By Rich Smith]

It’s official: After suffering another yet another big drop in share price — down 28% as of 12:40 p.m. EDT — shares of Helios and Matheson Analytics (NASDAQ:HMNY) now sell for a lower per-share price than they did last week, before the company effected its 250-for-1 reverse stock split.

  • [By Rich Smith]

Helios and Matheson Analytics (NASDAQ:HMNY) stock is up 14.3% as of 1:30 p.m. EDT — not a bad pop, if not quite as good as the near-43% run-up it enjoyed earlier in the day. So, what’s behind investors’ enthusiasm today?

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

Simple math would tell you that this is inferior to Helios and Matheson Analytics’ (NASDAQ:HMNY) MoviePass, a platform that costs half as much and allows as many as seven movies a week — as long as none of them are repeat screenings. MoviePass is also available across most theaters across the country, while AMC Stubs A-List is naturally limited to showings at AMC properties. However, AMC has two things going for it, and MoviePass can’t take its pole position for granted in this race.

  • [By Rich Smith]

Helios and Matheson Analytics (NASDAQ:HMNY) shares surged 21.8% in early Thursday trading before settling down to something more like a 5.2% gain as of 11:25 a.m. EDT. The reason: MoviePass is turning itself into an online version of the “coupon book.”

  • [By Jamal Carnette, CFA]

Sometimes a deal can truly be too good to be true. Such is the case with Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc.’s (NASDAQ:HMNY) MoviePass. The attempt to bring an on-demand subscription model to movies hasn’t been working out for the company, as shares have plunged to under a dime as of this writing.

Welcome to The Salary Chronicles, where we’re bringing transparency to negotiation and salaries, one story at a time. We ask women to share their experiences negotiating their salary and what their advice is for others doing the same. We share these stories anonymously so they feel comfortable speaking as openly and as freely as possible.

This week we’re speaking with a woman who was in a career rut and felt undervalued. Instead of staying stuck, she worked on improving her whole self, and as a result was offered a job that exceeded the ambitious income goal she had set for herself.

Title: Management Consultant

Location: Denver, CO

Original Salary: $45k

Negotiated Salary: $80k

What was the situation?

I had been working as a consultant for 4 years and by the end I hated it. The hours were long, I wasn’t making a lot of money, and I didn’t want to move up any further with my company. On the outside, it looked like I had a great career, but deep down I knew it wasn’t a fit.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks For 2019: Mastercard Incorporated(MA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rich Smith]

Would you like to pay for that with Mastercard (NYSE:MA), Visa (NYSE:V), or PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL)?

That’s the question Sears Outlet’s website asked me earlier this week. And here’s the funny bit: I actually wanted to pay with my new American Express (NYSE:AXP) card, but because of a coding glitch on Sears’ website, the field wasn’t big enough to enter all the required numbers. To work around that snafu, I was forced to add my AmEx card to my PayPal account, then charge my new dishwasher to the AmEx card on PayPal.

Card networks Visa (NYSE: V) and Mastercard (NYSE: MA), which benefit from the same tailwinds, aren’t much better, both with minuscule yields of 0.7%.

It is still a solid long-term growth stock. But according to a team of Motley Fool contributors, three other stocks — GrubHub (NYSE:GRUB), Tableau Software (NYSE:DATA), and Mastercard (NYSE:MA) — might offer better returns for now.

“Steering” refers to the practice of merchants encouraging customers to use one (or more) method(s) of payment in favor of another, either through discounts or direct requests (“Bob’s Beanz Prefers Visa and Mastercard”). The process tends to be at AmEx’s expense because the company charges its merchants higher per-transaction fees than its eternal rivals Visa (NYSE:V) and Mastercard (NYSE:MA).

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks For 2019: Sigma Designs, Inc.(SIGM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Steve Symington]

    Data source: Silicon Laboratories.

What happened with Silicon Labs this quarter?
Revenue was above the high end of guidance provided in late January, which called for a range of $196 million to $202 million. On an adjusted (non-GAAP) basis, which excludes items like equity compensation and acquisition costs, net income was $38.3 million, or $0.87 per share — also above guidance for adjusted earnings per share of between $0.73 and $0.79. IoT revenue grew 17% year over year to $103 million. Infrastructure revenue jumped 37% year over year to $49 million. Broadcast revenue declined 3% to $36 million. Access revenue fell 6% to $17 million. Subsequent to the end of the quarter, on April 18, 2018, Silicon Labs closed its $240 million acquisition of Sigma Designs’ (NASDAQ:SIGM) Z-Wave business. Silicon Labs had initially agreed to acquire all of Sigma Designs this past December for $282 million, but amended the deal last quarter to include only its Z-Wave business after certain closing conditions weren’t met. In any case, the purchase significantly expands Silicon Labs’ position in mesh networking for smart homes.

Canadian plane maker Bombardier (BDRAF) scored a huge win in its ongoing trade dispute with Boeing.

The U.S. International Trade Commission voted unanimously Friday that Boeing (BA)was not harmed by Bombardier and its all-new C Series jet.

The vote effectively shelves two tariffs, totaling nearly 300%, that the U.S. Commerce Department wanted to impose on Bombardier.

Boeing, the American aerospace giant, claims Canada’s Bombardier unfairly benefited from government bailout subsidies. Boeing says those funds allowed Bombardier to sell its new C Series airliner to Delta Air Lines (DAL) at “absurdly low prices” in violation of U.S. trade rules.

Delta in 2016 ordered up to 125 of the 110-seat C Series jets. Deliveries were expected to begin in spring 2018, but those plans are in question pending the outcome of the case.

While Boeing’s claims of harm come as the Trump administration strikes an aggressive posture on trade, the ITC’s appointees were all chosen by either Presidents Barack Obama or George W. Bush.

When International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) lays off staff, the company calls it a “resource action.” IBM employees have shortened the term to “RA” and even created a verb fittingly in the past tense “RA’d.” The term is getting a lot of use these days.

According to a January report in the U.K.’s The Register, IBM plans to reduce its Global Technology Services (GTS) workforce by “productively redeploying” about a third of the 100,000 or so of the employees. A detailed report by ProPublica and Mother Jones published late last month indicates that older U.S. workers have been hit hardest by IBM’s job cuts.

The report estimates that over the past five years about 60% of the 20,000 employees IBM have fired have been age 40 or older.

An independent website called Watching IBM includes an area where (mostly) former employees can post comments. Here’s a recent sample:

Monday was a positive day on Wall Street, as major benchmarks jumped following an uneventful weekend, tapering their gains as the session came to a close. Three companies that the market has walloped areApache Corporation(NYSE:APA),Magellan Midstream Partners(NYSE:MMP), andGeneral Motors(NYSE:GM). Here’s why these stocks look like bargains, and why today might be a good time to scoop up some shares.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE:MMP) is one of the bestmaster limited partnerships (MLPs) around. The oil and refined products pipeline and storage company boasts one of the top credit ratings and financial profiles in the sector. As a result, the company’s 5.6%-yielding distribution is on rock-solid ground.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE:KMI) is one of the largest midstream companies in North America, and it has major dividend plans between 2018 and 2020. By the end of that period, it expects to increase its dividend from $0.50 per share per year (in 2017) to $1.25. That’s huge dividend growth in a short period of time. But don’t get too enamored by that news; the dividend will still be lower than it was before the midstream oil and gas company’s 75% dividend cut in 2016. If you’re looking for dividend income in the midstream space, take a look at longtime dividend payers ONEOK, Inc. (NYSE:OKE) and Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P. (NYSE:MMP) instead.

What do companies like Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), Campbell’s Soup (NYSE: CPB) and Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) all have in common?

You might think not much. But think for a moment about some of the absolute chaos that has happened in the 20th century, not to mention this nascent 21st. There was World War I, World War II, Vietnam, etc. You had the Great Depression, the Oil embargo, the tech bubble, the global financial crisis… There were pandemics, assassinations, terror attacks the list goes on.

On Friday, the spotlight turns to Deere & Company (NYSE: DE). That could be another chance to get a sense of whether industrial companies have seen any impact yet from worsening trade relations between the U.S. and China. DE boosted its outlook last time it reported quarterly earnings, citing stronger conditions in agricultural and construction machinery markets.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Monday was a positive day on Wall Street, as major benchmarks jumped following an uneventful weekend, tapering their gains as the session came to a close. Some had feared that China might retaliate once again after the U.S. issued a second round of tariffs against the nation with the world’s second-largest economy, but the expected fireworks didn’t come, putting market participants more at ease. The beginning of earnings season in the next week will also distract investors from geopolitical issues, perhaps allowing indexes to climb further. Yet some individual stocks had difficulties that sent their shares lower. Yandex (NASDAQ:YNDX), Menlo Therapeutics (NASDAQ:MNLO), and MGIC Investment (NYSE:MTG) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

AT&T (NYSE:T) could offer customers a streaming television package for the low, low price of $0 per month in the near future.

During AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson’s testimony in the Department of Justice’s case against his company, blocking its potential acquisition of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX), he noted the company is planning a $15 per month sports-free streaming bundle called AT&T Watch.

Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche said the service will be available to everyone, but AT&T will offer it for free to its wireless customers. AT&T currently offers a $15 discount on any DirecTV Now bundle to its unlimited wireless data plan subscribers, so it would effectively be offering the same discount for customers who opt for the sport-free AT&T Watch. Top 10 China Stocks To Buy For 2018

May 4, 2018: Markets opened slightly lower Friday but traders didn’t wait long to put equities on a dead path up and to the right. A not-too-bad report on non-farm payrolls threatened to raise worries about inflation but some pressure is off now that trade talks with China have begun. Tech stocks also performed especially well in the session.

WTI crude oil for June delivery settled at $69.72 a barrel, up 1.9% for the day and more than 2% for the week. June gold added about about 0.2% on the day to settle at $1,314.70. Though I don’t directly own First Majestic Silver (NYSE:AG), I soon will, by default. I’m a shareholder in the aforementioned Primero Mining, and First Majestic Silver is in the process of acquiring Primero and its San Dimas mine, with the deal expected to close by the end of April. When it does, my Primero shares will be exchanged for shares of First Majestic, giving me ownership in the mining company that’s most levered to silver — about 70% of its sales are a result of silver production.

Top 10 China Stocks To Buy For 2018: Statoil ASA(STO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Another highlight in April was that Shell gave the green light to the Vito project, which is a joint venture with Statoil (NYSE:STO) in the Gulf of Mexico. Shell and Statoil were able to cut that project’s cost estimate by 70% from the original design so that it’s now profitable at $35 a barrel. The partners expect the project to produce 100,000 BOE/D of low-cost oil and gas when it comes online in 2021.

Anyone that has watched oil prices tick up recently has probably expected oil producers to report some impressive earnings results this past quarter, and Statoil (NYSE:STO) did just that with a 21% boost to the bottom line. At the same time, management is using all of its additional cash to do some wheeling and dealing that should help boost its growth possibilities in the nearer term.

Protect American jobs by getting tough on China.

That’s the underlying idea behind President-elect Donald Trump’s threat of a 45% tariff against China as a ploy to bring jobs back to America.

Before pursuing that strategy, however, Trump might want to check out what happened when his predecessor tried that.

President Obama slapped a stiff 35% tariff on Chinese tires in 2009 after American companies complained about unfair competition. They said China was flooding America with tires at low prices making it tough for U.S. companies to compete. The tire tariff gradually waned, and finally ended in 2012.

The tariff saved 1,200 U.S. tire jobs, which had been in sharp decline. And U.S. tire production rose after a major decline.

“Over a thousand Americans are working today because we stopped a surge in Chinese tires,” Obama said in his 2012 State of the Union address.

But a study from the Peterson Institute of International Economics found that the tariffs cost Americans in many other ways.

The ongoing trade rift between the United States and China continues to plague international markets. Despite reports that both countries are working behind the scenes to prevent additional detrimental trade policies, both countries recently proposed tens of billions in new tariffs on one another. The United States has accused China of widespread intellectual property theft, while China has accused the United States of unfair trade practices, including price manipulation in the agricultural industry. This morning, it’s worth noting that proposed tariffs on U.S. business jets will likely not provide a competitive advantage to foreign competition. Reuters reports that Chinese aviation executives do not see the layer of protectionism as a way to bolster the nation’s local market. Check back to Money Morning today for more insight on how the ongoing trade war could affect your investments.
Finally, investors will continue to monitor ongoing developments in Washington around the presidency of Donald Trump. The White House has asked a federal judge to block prosecutors from reviewing any files seized from his lawyer’s office during a raid by the FBI last week. The agency seized a trove of documents from lawyer Michael Cohen’s office as part of an investigation into a payment of hush money. The spat between the White House and the FBI continues a day after former FBI Director James Comey called Trump “morally unfit to be president.”

Oil prices are at levels we haven’t seen in years. U.S. crude topped $70 for the first since 2014, as U.S. President Donald Trump appeared increasingly likely to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal and reinforce sanctions on Tehran. In addition, OPEC has announced plans to bolster prices and cap production. For oil investors, Money MorningGlobal Energy Strategist Dr. Kent Moors says it’s time to buckle up. According to Moors, revoking the Iran deal would cause “price chaos” around the globe. And that’s right as driving season starts in the United States. Here’s more on the coming chaos for oil. In deal news, Blackstone Group (NYSE: BX) announced it will purchase Gramercy Property Trust (NYSE: GPT) for $7.6 billion in cash. Grammercy manages commercial real estate. While this may seem like a boring deal, Blackstone is buying a business that churns out cold hard cash for its investors. We want to keep this deal on your radar, because there are many other deals like this coming down the pipeline. We’re going to be discussing one of the best real estate opportunities available very soon – so keep an eye out for updates.

I made the mistake in not being able to come to a conclusion where I really felt that at the present prices that the prospects were far better than the prices indicated.” Buffett says he now has a “very, very, very high opinion” of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. The Oracle believes that Bezos has created something that is “close to a miracle.” Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) added another 0.6% Monday, to reach $185.00 per share – a new 52-week high. The Canadian dollar has soared 8% this year – which is a big move in the currency markets.   But based on our research, those big gains are likely to end soon…   You see, the Canadian dollar just hit its "most loved" level since 2013. It's now at a sentiment extreme.   We love to see sentiment extremes like this… They're great opportunities for profit. Whenever we see an extreme in sentiment, we look to make money by trading in the opposite direction…   Right now, investors absolutely love the Canadian dollar based on the Commitment of Traders (COT) report – one of our favorite sentiment measures.   The COT report tells us what futures traders are doing with real money. It's a fantastic contrarian tool to figure out what the crowd expects, so we can do the opposite.   You may have heard the old Wall Street saying, "Traders are wrong at the extremes, and right in between." We think that saying is exactly right.

fixed income investments: Hanesbrands Inc.(HBI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rich Duprey]

If a stock falls hard, particularly one with a durable name in its industry, it could be an opportunity to pick up shares on the cheap. But sometimes, a stock trades at a discount for a very good reason, so let’s take a look at Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR), Hanesbrands (NYSE:HBI), and Vista Outdoor (NYSE:VSTO) to see if they are good values at these lower prices — or just value traps.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Hanesbrands Inc. (NYSE: HBI) dropped about 5.9% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $21.50 after closing at $22.86 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $31.36. Volume of about 31 million was more than 7 times the daily average of 4.5 million. The company had no specific news.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Hanesbrands (HBI) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after missing earnings forecasts and offering disappointing guidance.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    Hanesbrandsdropped 16% to $18.98 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 2,297.42.

Stifel’s Jim Duffy and team explain what went wrong:

Structural changes in US consumer and retail trends weighed on 4Q and HBI fell short in 4Q. These trends are expected to continue in FY17 and guidance was more cautious than prevailing estimates. Given the leverage and dependence on acquisitions for growth, we view visibility to underlying free cash generation key to valuation and we are discouraged by both 2016 results which were well short of plan and the outlook for FY17 operating cash flow which is a step backwards from prior FY16 guidance. With a reduction in 2017 CFO estimates from $795mn to $690mn we are lowering our 12-month target price from $26 to $23.

Hanesbrands’ market capitalization fell to $7.2 billion today from $8.6 billion yesterday.

Hanesbrands was just one of many retail companies that got shellacked this week. Under Armour (UAA) tumbled 29% after missing earnings forecasts and cutting its guidance, while Deckers Outdoor (DECK) plunged 21% after its earnings missed the Street consensus, and Ralph Lauren (RL) plummeted 13% after its CEO stepped down.
