The drop in Baker Hughes weekly count, coming after a record 23-straight weeks of rising numbers of active rigs, helped stoke sentiment that shale producers may have hit a bottleneck amid prolonged low prices.

Top 10 Low Price Stocks To Watch Right Now: MBIA, Inc.(MBI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market finished lower on Friday, with triple-digit losses for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and modest declines of as much as half a percent for other major benchmarks. A mix of economic and political news kept investors on their toes to end the week, as fears of a possible attack on Syria watered down some of the potential upside that could have stemmed from solid earnings results from the banking sector during the morning. Even though many investors have pretty positive expectations going into earnings season, some companies suffered from disappointing news that sent their shares lower. Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET), Dropbox (NASDAQ:DBX), and MBIA (NYSE:MBI) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

As things stand right now, analysts anticipate that at least some Iranian oil will come off the market as a result of the sanctions. That lost output would further tighten an oil market that suddenly has little margin for error thanks to red-hot demand and tame supply growth. That’s the recipe for higher oil prices and could make top-tier U.S. oil stocks Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) big winners in the coming years.

The delay in an FDA decision for Tegsedi puts it behind competitor Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY), which expects to hear from the FDA by Aug. 11 for its hATTR drug patisiran. But Sarah Boyce, the president at Akcea Therapeutics, doesn’t think a few months will really matter: “We don’t really feel that’s going to have any impact and the drugs will be close enough together from a launch perspective. So not really [going] to make any adjustments, and we’re very well prepared to be ready to launch following approval.”

I wrote three months ago that I viewed Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY) stock as a pretty good pick — but with a couple of qualifications. Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Warren Buffett’s annual shareholders’ letter came out Feb. 25. The Oracle of Omaha covered a lot of ground in his annual state of the union. Revisiting the subject of share repurchases, Buffett discussed the reasons why you don’t see Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A, NYSE:BRK.B) on his own list of stocks to buy.

While he’s not against them, mind you, he believes that most CEOs pay very little attention to the price paid to buyback repurchase their company’s stock, an affliction that Berkshire Hathaway doesn’t suffer from. He’s authorized to buy back Berkshire stock by the boatload up to 120% of its book value per share, a price that’s substantially discounted from its true intrinsic value.

Roche (OTCQX:RHHBY) reported Thursday that its doublet therapy, including Exelixis’ cobimetinib, failed to prove statistically significant over Stivarga in patients with treatment-resistant late-stage colorectal cancer. If the treatment goal is reduce the toxic proteins underlying these diseases, Ionis is in a prime position to develop the first treatments for these disorders. And that brings me to my second point: Ionis has essentially no competition in this CNS space. Chemical therapies dont work. Antibody-based therapies dont work. Additionally, the company’s largest direct competitor, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY), has no clinical trials in CNS and has yet to show that its core technology (RNAi) works in the CNS. In contrast, Ionis has ASO treatments (Spinraza) working in patients with CNS disease right now. Also, the company has a number of ongoing clinical trials that could be game-changing:

Huntingtons disease – Ionis has stated that its Huntingtons trial exceeded our expectations, and we will soon learn how paradigm-shifting its technology might be. However, the decision by Ionis’s licensing partner, Roche (OTCQX:RHHBY), to advance this ASO into either a phase 2 or phase 3 clinical trial likely indicates the results will quite positive. ALS – Phase 1/2 trials were initiated about two years ago, so readouts of this data should be coming soon. Animal data has been extremely positive. Alzheimer’s disease and frontal temporal dementia – While the human clinical trial was only recently started, trials in animals have been exemplary. Any positive data from the ongoing human trial will certainly be the top story at every major news organization. Ionis is a prime acquisition target

My prediction is that a larger player will also recognize the applicability of Ioniss ASO technology (especially for the CNS) and acquire the company. Biogen (which has staked its future on antibody-based therapies for Alzheimers which wont work) and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) (which just eliminated its in-house CNS division) are cash-rich and desperate for new CNS pipelines. Additionally, Biogen has already licensed multiple ASO therapies from Ionis, which are perf

Competition from Biogen (BIIB)/Ionis (IONS)’s Spinraza should be taken into account. Another research collaboration has the purpose of finding novel SMA treatments. PTC Therapeutics (NASDAQ:PTCT) and Roche AG (OTCQX:RHHBY) also have a mid-stage candidate for which positive data has been reported in SMA Type 2/3. To get an idea of the potential here, Spinraza global revenue in the third quarter came in at $271 million. Peak sales are thought to be as much as $3 billion, although that could prove overly optimistic. Currently it is thought that Avexis麓 (NASDAQ:AVXS) AVXS-101 won麓t make it to market until the first half of 2019. While I am partial to AVXS-101 due to mode of administration and possibly superior efficacy, it麓s best to avoid comparisons until later on in this story.

Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) led the Dax higher, gaining 1.02% to 178.82, after the German carmaker reshuffled its top management, naming former BMW AG (BMWYY) executive Herbert Diess as CEO, replacing Matthias Mueller, in the company’s biggest management change since the diesel emissions scandal in 2015.

Of course, major automakers want to make bold statements to seem current and relevant, so it is best to approach these headlines with some level of speculation. For example, with the recent diesel emission scandals, Volkswagen (OTCPK:VLKAY) has been put under the spotlight to dramatically shift its business to new energy vehicles. The company has announced that it is targeting sales of 2-3 million electric vehicles by 2025 through 30 all-electric car offerings.

Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) shares were also on the back foot, falling 2.4% in Frankfurt and holding down gains for the DAX performance index after news late Thursday that former CEO Martin Winterkorn had been charged with conspiracy by the U.S. Department of Justice for his role in the firm’s diesel-gate scandal.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In Right Now

No one in modern financial history comes close to matching Warren Buffett’s record as an investor.

Hedge fund managers like John Paulson and Kenneth Griffin have had huge years along the way, and more conventional money managers such as Peter Lynch have turned in stellar performances as well, but none has performed at such a high level over such a long period of time as the Oracle of Omaha.

When Buffett took control ofBerkshire Hathaway(NYSE: BRK-A)(NYSE: BRK-B) in 1965, it was an ailing textile company with a bleak future. Today, thanks to Buffett’s brilliance at capital allocation, Berkshire is the fourth-biggest company in the S&P 500as measured by market capitalization.

The compound annual increase in Berkshire’s book value per share has averaged 19% since Buffett grabbed the reins. That’s nearly double the compound annual gain of the S&P 500, which comes out to 9.7% over the same 52-year stretch.

This morning, President Trump suggested that the United States is considering strong military action in response to recent chemical attacks carried out on civilians by the Syrian government. The president promised to send “nice and new and ‘smart'” missiles to Syria and accused the Russian government of partnering with a “Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” The president’s remarks are a significant departure from comments made last week, which suggested that the United States would be pulling out of Syria in the coming months. Trump’s threat of war over a recent chemical attack in Syria drove crude oil and gold prices higher. Geopolitical worries often offer a boost to commodity prices due to concerns about supply. Trump’s threat comes at a time that markets are already concerned about a significant military conflict in the Middle East between Saudi Arabia and Iran. WTI crude prices added 0.9% to hit $66.10 per barrel. Brent crude pushed to $71.10 per barrel. Gold price topped $1,350 per ounce and are poised for bigger gains. According to Axios, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) has privately told friends that he will not seek reelection in the fall. The news comes at a perilous time for Republicans, who are expected to lose the House of Representatives and potentially the Senate. Axios was the first to report the news. The story is also notable because Ryan recently achieved his long-time goal of passing tax reform in late 2017.

Schlumberger Ltd. (NYSE: SLB) reported first-quarter 2018 results before markets opened on Friday. The oil field services firm reported adjusted diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.38 on revenues of $7.83 billion. In the same period a year ago, Schlumberger reported adjusted EPS of $0.25 on revenues of $6.89 billion. First-quarter results also compare to the consensus estimates for EPS of $0.37 on revenues of $7.81 billion.

Net income in the quarter totaled $525 million, up from $279 million in the same period a year ago. In the fourth quarter of 2017, Schlumberger took one-time charges of $2.21 billion mostly due to a restructuring of its Western Geco business.

The company noted that its effective tax rate in first quarter was 17.6%, compared with 19.0% in the fourth quarter of 2017. Because the company is based in Cura莽ao, it pays taxes in the countries where it operates without incurring additional taxation in the United States. Thus, the impact of U.S. tax law changes are not expected to have much effect, and the company said it believes its effective U.S. tax rate for this year will be about 19%.

An ETF is a fund that tracks indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500. ETFs basically let you trade an entire sector instead of having to pick and choose specific stocks to trade within a sector. ETFs are also a great way for you to hedge against rising interest rates. Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Buy For 2018: The Baltic Dry Index Soaring, and Double Crown Resources (DDCC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Don’t let the lethargic Baltic Dry Index fool you — commodities aren’t being used less now than they have been in the past. In fact, most commodities are still seeing increased consumption, including the dry goods the Baltic Dry Index is supposed to gauge transportation for. The Baltic Dry Index remains in a bit of a long-term funk because, as much as the world continues to increase their need for materials like iron ore, grain, and gravel, the world also still has too much capacity to deliver them. See, too many maritime vessels are competing for too few dollars, serving as a drag on the value of the Baltic Dry Index lower. After all, the BDI is mostly just a measure of the daily shipping rates for ocean-born transportation services. It’s not actually a measure of consumption of those materials consumption.

It’s not only a scenario that doesn’t work against young-and-hungry company Double Crown Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:DDCC), but it may actually be a scenario that bodes well for it.

Thought question: What if there was a way to remove all the risks and hassle of shipping goods such as iron ore pellets or beans or salt (commodities that are normally delivered in drybulk vessels) yet still utilize all the flexibility of intermodal containers? There is. It’s called Translock2, or Translock Squared, and it’s going to revolutionize the way many material companies deliver their goods, and the way many drybulk commodity buyers use their material.

The image nearby is a Translock2 container. It should look vaguely familiar. It’s essentially an intermodal container in terms of size and shape, but mechanically is a delivery and dispensing platform for drybulk goods like sand or rice. The design allows commodities like sand gravel or livestock feed to be moved with all the flexibility of intermodal transportation (on flatbed trucks, by rail, and on the deck of a boat but without any of the logistical headache of aggregating and splitti

  • [By James E. Brumley]

When most investors think of potential competitive threats to drybulk shippers like Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK) or Euroseas Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESEA), Double Crown Resources Inc (OTCMKTS:DDCC) doesn’t come to mind. Indeed, DDCC doesn’t come to mind for many investors at all, as for all intents and purposes the company it is today didn’t exist until a few months ago. Age, however, has nothing to do with how disruptive it could prove to be for the likes of Euroseas or Star Bulk Carriers. Its underlying idea is brilliant, and it’s only a matter of time before it catches on within the commodity-transportation community.

What if there was a way to remove all the risks and hassle of shipping things like pellets or beans or salt – normally delivered in drybulk vessels – but still utilize all the flexibility of intermodal containers (the big 20-foot boxes that fit on a truck and a train and on top of the deck of a boat)? There is. It’s called Translock2 (Translock Squared). It was designed by Double Crown Resources, and it’s going to revolutionize the way many material companies deliver their goods.

The nearby image is a Translock2 container. It should look familiar – it’s essentially an intermodal container in terms of size and shape, but mechanically is a delivery and dispensing platform for drybulk goods. The design allows commodities like sand or livestock feed to be moved with all the flexibility of intermodal transportation, but without any of the headache of aggregating and splitting up those goods to get them properly shipped to their final destination. With Translock2, drybulk purchases are packaged up by the seller at the supply source, and then delivered — just as ordered — all the way to the buyer’s site in the container. No material is lost en route, and no distributor or middleman needs to bother splitting up one large order into smaller ones.

Its development is worth noting, as it explicitly circumvents the need for drybulk ves

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Despite the conclusions that may be drawn by the renewed weakness of the Baltic Dry Index, demand for commodities isn’t drying up. In fact, most commodities continue to see increased consumption… including the dry goods the Baltic Dry Index is supposed to measure shipping costs for. The Baltic Dry Index is rolling over again simply because as much as the world continues to up their need for materials such as iron ore, grains, and gravel, the market to deliver those goods remains saturated. That is, too many boats, trains and trucks are fighting for the existing level of business, pulling the value of the Baltic Dry Index and other shipping-cost measures lower. After all, the BDI is ultimately just a measure of the daily shipping rates for maritime vessels – it’s not actually a measure of materials consumption.

Not only does a falling Baltic Dry Index not work against young-and-hungry company Double Crown Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:DDCC), it may actually favor it.

Hypothetical question: What if there was a way to remove all the risks and hassle of shipping things like pellets or beans or salt (goods normally delivered in drybulk vessels) yet still utilize all the flexibility of intermodal containers? There is. It’s called Translock2, or Translock Squared, and it’s going to revolutionize the way many material companies deliver their goods, and how users of those goods handle and distribute them.

The nearby picture is a Translock2 container. It should look familiair, in that it’s essentially an intermodal container in terms of size and shape, but mechanically serves as a delivery and dispensing platform for drybulk goods. The design allows commodities like sand or livestock feed to be transported with all the flexibility of intermodal transportation, but without any of the headache of constantly aggregating and splitting up such goods to get them from point A to point B. Despite the lackluster economic headlines and so-so pricing, commodities aren’t being used less and less. Indeed, most commodities continue to see growing consumption. It’s not only a scenario that works in favor of young-and-hungry company Double Crown Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:DDCC), but what makes Double Crown such a compelling opportunity is that it’s rather insensitive to commodity price fluctuation.

What’s the biggest risk and hassle of shipping things like pellets or beans or salt? Normally they’re delivered in drybulk vessels, which works, but is rather ineffective. At various points between a supplier and a customer, such goods have to be split up, re-routed, taken off a boat and put on a train (or vice versa). Not only do all the middlemen get expensive, mistakes and spillage cost money.

It’s not only a scenario that bodes well for an up-and-coming company Double Crown Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:DDCC).

What if there were a way to remove all the risks and hassle of shipping things like pellets or beans or salt [which are normally delivered in drybulk vessels] but still utilize all the flexibility of intermodal containers… the big box containers that are just at home on the deck of a ship as they are on a flatbed truck as they are on a train car? There is. It’s called Translock2 (Translock Squared), and it’s going to revolutionize the way many material companies deliver their goods. Commodity companies now have an alternative way of shipping their product without constantly handling it – and losing some of it – en route to its final destination.

The nearby image is a Translock2 container. If it looks vaguely familiar to most, it’s essentially an intermodal container in terms of size and shape, but mechanically serves as delivery and dispensing platform for drybulk goods like rice, fertilizer, etc. The design allows commodities to be moved with all the flexibility of intermodal transportation, but without any of the headache of aggregating and splitting up those goods en route to their final destination. With Translock2, drybulk purchases are packaged up by the seller at the supply source, and then delivered — just as ordered — all the way to the buyer’s site in the container. No muss, no fuss, and no middleman. It cuts down on expenses, and lost material.

Its development worth noting, in that it explicitly circumvents the need for drybulk maritime vessels, and turns intermodal container ships into dry cargo vessels.

The recent unveiling of the Translock 2 containers won’t actually change the amount of drybulk material we as a species consume. But, it will offer dry goods suppliers an easier and often cheaper option to expensive and often difficult dry goods vessel shipping. Remember, the Baltic Dr

Who has PARP? A poly ADP-ribose polymerase inhibitor (PARPi) kills cancer cells by interfering tumor DNA repair pathway with the potential to treat ovarian, breast and prostate cancer. Studies have shown that patients with BRCA mutations (BRCAmut) respond to PARPi. AstraZenecas (AZN) PARPi was approved in 2014 whileClovis Oncology (CLVS) and Tesaro (TSRO) both have positive Phase III data. Clovis licensed its PARPi from Pfizer (PFE) in 2011 and Tesaro licensed its PARPi from Merck (MRK) in 2012, after Sanofis (SNY) PARPi (later demonstrated that it cannot block PARP) failed in Phase III in early 2011.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Look out below! Shares of Tesaro (TSRO) have dropped more than 10% this afternoon after AstraZeneca (AZN) released stronger-than-expected Phase 3 trial data on a its ovarian cancer treatment.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

The Street’sAdam Feuerstein has the details on AstraZeneca’s strong data and its impact on Tesaro:

AstraZeneca’s (AZN) PARP inhibitor Lynparza delayed the recurrence of ovarian cancer by more than two years compared to a placebo, according to results from a phase III study presented Tuesday.

The strong benefit observed with Lynparza as ovarian cancer maintenance therapy exceeded investor expectations and bolsters AstraZeneca against a competing PARP inhibitor from Tesaro (TSRO).

Feuerstein also notes that AstraZeneca’s data could be good newsClovis Oncology (CLVS), which also had a PARP inhibitor approved recently, if it means that its drug could work as well as Astra’s.

In February, Leerink cut Tesaro, arguing that the rally in its shares due to a potential takeover had run too far. Will it still be a takeover target?

Shares of Tesaro have dropped 14% to $148.01 at 3:28 p.m. today, while AstraZeneca has gained 1.1% to $30.41, and Clovis Oncology has jumped 9.8% to$66.55.

UPDATE:Piper Jaffray’sSteven Breazzano andJoshua Schimmer note that the AstraZeneca data shows that PARPs are “more similar than different.” They explain:

This afternoon AstraZeneca (covered by PJC analyst Richard Purkiss) reported the detailed results from the SOLO-2 maintenance study of Lynparza in 2L+ ovarian cancer. The detailed data highlights a PFS benefit of 14 months (investigator assessed, and primary endpoint) and 25 months (blinded central review) over placebo, and favorable hazard ratio of 0.30 and 0.25, respectively, confirming our view that the PARP’s are more similar than different. As such, we believe this provides a favorable readth

Analysts at Sterne Agee noted on Monday that International Game Technology’s (IGT) fiscal 2014 growth is stronger than it appears. As such, the analysts raised the price target on the casino gaming equipment manufacturer.

“Excluding FY13 Canadian VLT sales, which do not recur in FY14, consensus FY14 EPS growth is ~14% versus ‘in-print’ consensus EPS growth of ~4%,” Sterne Agee analyst David Bain said. “We believe IGT’s peer-low stock valuation is partly driven by a misinterpretation of forward growth using ‘in-print’ FY14 EPS projections.”

Futhermore, the firm raised IGT’s fourth quarter EPS estimates from 33 cents to 34 cents.
