OPKO Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPK) follows a similar pattern, but to the downside. The market had a crossover to the upside in mid-April when that blue line made the cross above the black line. There’s more risk to General Dynamics, but there is also more potential upside should it get its aerospace business on track and close that valuation gap.

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) stock posted a dip of about 0.9% last week, not much, but not good enough to shake the company’s ranking as the worst performing Dow Jones industrial average stock for the year to date.

GE shares have lost nearly 17% of their value in 2018 and have fallen nearly 52% during the past 12 months. The second-worst Dow stock so far this year is Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG) down 11.8%. That is followed by Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX), down about 10%; Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), down 8.8%; and Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) down 7.3%.

The Dow added about 90 points over the course of the last week and closed the week at 25,309.99, a gain of about 0.3%.

Last week’s “big” news from GE came Wednesday when the company’s chief financial officer, Jamie Miller, told a Barclays conference that GE had no intention of selling its stake in Baker Hughes, a GE Company (NYSE: BHGE) anytime soon. That’s good because GE agreed to certain restrictions on selling the oilfield services company when it acquired it in 2016. The restrictions are in force until 2019.

Rental cars often also end up in the used-vehicle market and can depress the value of autos owned by retail customers. Nissan, which set a target years ago to reach 10 percent market share in the U.S., has boosted its fleet business to get there.

Monday was a positive day on Wall Street, as major benchmarks jumped following an uneventful weekend, tapering their gains as the session came to a close. Some had feared that China might retaliate once again after the U.S. issued a second round of tariffs against the nation with the world’s second-largest economy, but the expected fireworks didn’t come, putting market participants more at ease. The beginning of earnings season in the next week will also distract investors from geopolitical issues, perhaps allowing indexes to climb further. Yet some individual stocks had difficulties that sent their shares lower. Yandex (NASDAQ:YNDX), Menlo Therapeutics (NASDAQ:MNLO), and MGIC Investment (NYSE:MTG) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shanthi Rexaline]

Unilever NV (ADR) ADR (NYSE: UN) procures sustainable oils such as soy, sunflower and rapeseed oil for a host of its consumer products such as Hellmann's mayonnaise. It remains to be seen how the U.S.-China standoff will hurt its margins.

If you’re an investor in consumer goods giant Unilever (NYSE:UN), odds are you followed the takeover bid from Kraft Heinz(NASDAQ: KHC) closely in 2017. Ultimately, it fell through, with Unilever’s management rebutting that it was better off on its own. There was some mustard left on the face of Kraft Heinz, but major shareholder Warren Buffett claimed there was potentially a misunderstanding of the nature of the offer. It was not intended to be a hostile takeover, he said, but it could have been perceived that way by Unilever.

Hot High Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now

Chipotle Short: Estimates are still entirely too high. 26% Restaurant operating margins are a thing of the past. Price Target $300

Chipotle (NYSE:CMG) has been a very controversial name over the past 18 months, since the well-known e.coli/noro-virus debacle. On the one hand, you have a seemingly growing concept expanding its store base at a low-double-digit (LDD) rate. Consumer analysts and PM’s were falling over themselves to own this fast growing, highly profitable concept (opening units at a mid-teen % rate in 2012). The company boasted a pristine balance sheet and they offered stellar returns on invested capital, averaging around 34% in the five years prior to the outbreak. Many looked at the decline in comps as only a speed bump in the long term picture. There were several bull/bear lunches late in 2015 discussed the topic and drew comparison to the Jack In the Box (NASDAQ:JACK) outbreak in 1993, and now it was possible to own a concept that can easily double its store base with fantastic returns at half the valuation.

Hot High Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Sonoco Products Company(SON)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Deutsche Bank’s Debbie Jones and team contend that Sonoco’s (SON) sale of its plastic-container business to Australia’s Amcor is a sign that M&A is in the offing. They explain why:

Sonoco announced (9/1) that it is selling its Rigid Plastics Blow Molding operations to Amcor (AMC.AU) for $280M. The transaction price represents a multiple of ~8.0x LTM EBITDA. The business had annual sales of ~$210M and consisted of six production sites in the US and one in Canada. Blow molding operations represented ~10% of Sonocos Consumer Packaging segment sales and EBITDA. The transaction is expected to close in Q4. We expect the proceeds to be used to for M&A focused in flexible packaging, thermoforming and temperature-assured packaging.

We dont believe Sonoco considered its blow molding operations essential to its growth strategy. This standalone business is also more capital intensive compared to some of its other plastic packaging businesses and SON held a small position in the overall market. Ultimately, the company decided it wants to focus its capital in higher growth platforms. We do not expect the divestment to reduce resin buying scale for Sonoco’s remaining assets given different resin buying. Note that with the divestiture of blow molding and the Canton closures plant (divested in Feb. 2015), this makes the ~$100M reels business the last standalone business in the portfolio, but we do not expect this to be divested in the near-term unless cash is needed for much larger M&A.

Shares of Sonoco have gained 1.3% to $52.49 at 2:12 p.m. today.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Lu Wang]

Rockwell Collins (COL) sank 4.9 percent to $70.61. The maker of airplane cockpit instruments forecast revenue in fiscal 2014 will be no more than $4.60 billion. That missed the average analyst estimate of $4.93 billion in a Bloomberg survey.

Rockwell Collins (COL) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after the aerospace & defense company’s adjusted earnings topped analyst forecasts.

Rockwell Collins gained 5.1% to $104.70 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 2,348.69. The Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) ticked up 0.1% to$65.41 as strength in Rockwell Collins and Honeywell International (HON) offset earnings-related weakness in General Electric (GE). Honeywell, which also reported today, gained 2.7% to $127.08, while General Electric dropped 2.4% to $29.55.

CFRA’s Jim Corridore offers his take on Rockwell Collins’ earnings:

We raise our 12-month target price by $10 to $120, 18.4X our FY 18 (Sep.) EPS estimate of $6.52 (raised today from $5.80), in line with COL’s 3-year average. We think this balances commercial aerospace (which carry higher P/Es) and military (lower P/E) peers. We raise our FY 17 EPS estimate to $6.05 from $5.49, in the middle of COL’s FY 17 (Sep.) guidance of $5.95-$6.15. COL Q1 adjusted EPS of $1.27 vs. $1.30 was three cents shy of our forecast. We are positive on demand drivers and completed acquisition of B/E Aerospace increases COL’s commercial aerospace market share.

Rockwell Collins’ market capitalization rose to $13.7 billion today from $16.2 billion yesterday.

It's a familiar story to anyone who knows much about financial history…   In the decade or so following the greatest spree of money printing and credit growth in history, we witnessed a tremendous bubble in financial assets.   This bubble saw interest rates on government bonds plummet as bond and stock prices soared.   It saw financial innovations no one had ever thought of before, including new ways to organize capital and banking systems.   It even saw the emergence of new currencies, which soared in value, creating an entirely new class of wealth.   Most people had no idea what to make of all of these new financial innovations. They couldn't believe how much wealth was being created. And in the days following a national holiday, huge crowds of investors stampeded to join in this new financial revolution.   Everyone would soon be rich!

Hot Logistics Stocks To Watch Right Now

Remember when companies used to split their stock to keep individual shares affordable? No longer. Credit Suisse strategistsAna Avramovic andVictor Lin note that Church & Dwight (CHD) upcoming stock split will be just the fourth by an S&P 500 stock this year:

路 Stock splits have nearly dried up, at least among large-cap companies.

路 The split of CHD on Friday will be only the 4th of the year, which is the lowest in at least 20 years, excepting the nadir of the crisis in 2009.

路 The consequence of a lack of stock splits is that share prices have risen to all-time highs. The average price of an S&P stock is now about $87. And rising share prices generally mean wider spreads in cents, less posted liquidity, lower volume, and higher odd lot rates.

路 Generally, we recommend that traders should be more aggressive with higher-priced stocks since the midpoint will likely be more volatile and being passive will incur additional risk.

Shares of Church & Dwight have risen 0.8% to $99.85 at 3 p.m. today, while the S&P 500 has gained 0.6% to 2,181.33.

Shares of Sonoco have gained 1.3% to $52.49 at 2:12 p.m. today.
