The video game industry has relied on more or less the same business model ever since games moved from arcades to homes. Video game enthusiasts buy consoles like Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 or Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One (or a gaming-ready computer) and then buy individual games. There have been minor changes over time — like the arrival of digital downloads and marketplaces like the PlayStation Store and Steam — but until recently, games were typically purchased individually. It won’t be like that for much longer. In fact, the first subscription streaming services for video games have already arrived.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Buy For 2021: Just Hold Your Nose and Dive Into Under Armour Inc (UAA)

Down more than 37% since its September-2015 peak (and still within easy reach of new 52-week lows), it would be easy to liken a purchase of Under Armour Inc (NYSE:UAA, NYSE:UA) to catching a falling knife — you generally don’t want to do it. Bolstering the bearish case against Under Armour stock is the fact that even with the steep selloff, UAA shares are still priced at a frothy trailing P/E of 64 [the old ‘UA’ ticker now represents the class C shares; both are still investable].

UAA: Just Hold Your Nose and Dive Into Under Armour StockSource: SandyDover via Flickr (Modified)

There simply aren’t too many stocks the market is willing to value at that level for very long.

And yet, if there was ever an exception to the market’s unspoken limits on price multiples, Under Armour stock is it. As uncomfortable as it may feel to do so, investors may just want to shut their eyes, hold their nose, and dive in.

What Went Wrong fo! r UAA Stock?

For those who’ve kept tabs on Under Armour stock for a while, they’ll know the past year or so has been uncharacteristically disappointing. UAA stock — while it was still UA — advanced 2,500% between March of 2009 and late 2015, entirely in step with revenue growth.

It was a pace that was simply unsustainable though… revenue, as well as the stock’s rally.

In its recently completed third quarter, year-over-year sales growth of 22% was, amazingly enough, relatively disappointing compared to the 28% growth driven in the same quarter a year earlier. Q2’s sales growth pace fell similarly. In fact, that slowing pace has been the norm for roughly a year now.

5 Stocks to Buy for December

It’s not apt to get better anytime soon either. In October, the company warned its sales-growth rate would fall to the lower 20%’s over the course of the next couple of years.

Perhaps worse, margins have begun to dwindle, as the company finds itself spending more and more, but getting less bang for its buck.

This is admittedly a tougher metric to gauge. Per-share profits for Under Armour stock tend to vary widely from one quarter to the next, with the company willing to spend big on team-based sponsorships and celebrity-based endorsements at the drop of a hat, usually in step with a rise to fame rather than on a cyclical basis.

When one takes a step back and looks at the long-term numbers though, it becomes clear that Under Armour has prioritized growth over profits, paying small fortunes (and sometimes large fortunes) to affiliate with high-profile names like Steph Curry and Jordan Spieth.

CEO Kevin Plank says it’s worth the all cost. The persistent weakness from UA and UAA stock, though, says the market isn’t so sure.

The Future Looks Brighter for Under Armour

There was a method to the madness this whole time. It just took Under Armour far longer to reap what it had been sowing for the pas! t several! years … momentum, and a solid foundation. They’re certainly relic ideas in the modern market, where most investors are looking for results in a matter of weeks rather than a matter of years. It has been worth the wait — and expense — for Under Armour though.

Next Page

Case in point: Under Armour was recently awarded a 10-year contract by Major League Baseball to provide uniforms for its teams, beginning in 2020.

At 40 players on the expanded roster for 30 MLB teams, with different home and away-game jerseys, there’s a little money to be made with the deal. The real value of the contract, however, is the power of putting the Under Armour logo on the front of those jerseys, providing a constant stream of subtle but powerful advertising. Apparel licensing rights will provide the bulk of subsequent payoff. It’s unlikely Under Armour would have been able to sway Major League Baseball, however, if it hadn’t become the behemoth it has become over the course of the past few years.

As Fortune‘s John Kell explained it:

“As Under Armour gets bigger, it makes it tougher for the company to boost sales at a pace that investors were used to. But there’s one advantage that investors seem to be ignoring. The bigger business means Under Armour can compete for key contracts with sports leagues, individual athletes, and universities. Those deals are important for a brand to become more top of mind with shoppers.”

From here, life actually gets a little easier and relatively less expensive for Under Armour.

Bottom Line for Under Armour Stock

The next new frontier for Under Armour is its direct-to-consumer business, or as it’s more commonly called, e-commerce. The company drove $408 million worth of internet-based sales during the third quarter, or roughly 28% of Under Armour’s total revenue for Q3. That’s actually relatively more e-commerce than most brands are able to drive for themselves, b! ut Under ! Armour wants more.

It’s also getting more. Direct-to-consumer sales were up 29% last quarter, marking another improvement in its e-commerce growth pace even as the pace of sales through brick-and-mortar locales continues to slow.

It’s a key solution to the apparel maker’s problem of thinning margins. Online, Under Armour sells at retail prices rather than wholesale prices.

Whatever the case, e-commerce is another facet that simply wouldn’t have worked quite as well were Under Armour not the readily recognizable name it is now.

Why Micron Technology, Inc. (MU) Stock Is Headed for Blue Skies

To be fair, UAA/UA still aren’t even close to being contenders for any value awards. This is a growth story, and Under Armour stock is priced as a growth stock. There is growth ahead though, and perhaps of more interest to shareholders, there’s now enough scale that margins could take a turn towards respectability again without crimping the company’s capacity to pay for those much-needed endorsements and sponsorships.

Think of it as a coming-of-age story, if you’re truly in for the long run. Just know it’s an idea that isn’t reflected in most analysts’ opinion.

As of this writing, James Brumley did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.

The Aeolus Robot, which got plenty of attention at this year’s CES, was shown delivering drinks and vacuuming floors during demos; its creators promise the robot will integrate with popular voice assistants. LG has shown off a robot that can act as a smart-home hub, as well as a line of robots meant for hotels, airports and other venues servicing consumers (they can do things like carry bags and groceries). And last week, Sony (SNE) announced it’s forming an R&D partnership with Carnegie Mellon related to developing cooking robots.

The third quarter was an extremely busy period with lots and lots of important changes to manage.

Donovan added the CEO title to his chairmanship of the board on Feb. 26, just two weeks after the second-quarter report. Ex-CEO Dana Landry waved farewell to “pursue other opportunities.” At the same time, CFO Keith Abriel stepped down to make way for Doug Lamb as his successor. Two months later, DHX continued to revamp its management team with three new C-suite appointments and the departure of co-founder Steven DeNure. Two separate executives now fill his dual roles as COO and president. This Sunday, DHX announced a partnership with Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) music entertainment division that gives the Japanese media giant 49% ownership of DHX’s interests in Peanuts. This deal added 237 million CDN ($185 million) to DHX’s coffers, taking some weight off the debt load that was created when the company spent $345 million on Peanuts and Strawberry Shortcake. The Sony agreement is expected to close in June. And alongside this earnings report, DHX decided to simplify its dual-class stock structure on the Toronto Stock Exchange, bundling its two stock classes together in a single class with a single ticker. Thanks to Canadian media regulations, this single bucket of stock will still be treated differently based on the shareholder’s citizenship — Canadians always get one vote per share but the portion of votes owned by non-Canadians can never exceed one-third of the total vote count.

All of these drastic changes are part of DHX Media’s ongoing “strategic review,” which might end up in a complete exit from the public markets. The additions of Peanuts and Strawberry Shortcake to DHX’s content portfolio have failed to kick the company into a state of next-level growth. Interest payments and other financing expenses exceeded the company’s selling, general, and administrative costs in the third quarter. That’s a heavy anchor to carry, though the Sony deal should lighten it a

Top Growth Stocks To Invest In 2019: Zogenix, Inc.(ZGNX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sean Williams]

Back in September, drug developer Zogenix (NASDAQ:ZGNX) announced data from ZX008 in late-stage trials that absolutely wowed Wall Street. ZX008, which is a low-dose fenfluramine, led to a 72.4% reduction in seizure frequency from baseline over a 14-week testing period. This compared very favorably with a 17.4% reduction in seizure frequency from baseline observed with the placebo.

  • [By Sean Williams]

But what’s interesting about Epidiolex is that its first-to-market advantage may not hold up for too long. You see, Zogenix (NASDAQ:ZGNX)also is developing a treatment for Dravet syndrome, known as ZX008, that it plans to test on LGS patients soon. In phase 3 Dravet syndrome trials, Zogenix’s lead drug wound up demonstrating a 72.4% reduction in convulsive seizure frequency over the 14-week treatment period relative to baseline. This more than quadrupled the 17.4% reduction in convulsive seizure frequency seen in placebo patients.

The other concern is that while it may be the first to market in treating Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, another experimental therapy is nipping at its heels. In September, Zogenix (NASDAQ:ZGNX) announced surprisingly strong phase 3 data for ZX008, a low-dose fenfluramine that absolutely blew away the placebo in Dravet syndrome patient testing. Zogenix’s lead compound led to a 72.4% reduction in convulsive seizure frequency over a 14-week period, compared to the 17.4% reduction for placebo patients.

Best Safest Stocks To Own For 2018

Every night in 1995, I would deposit money overnight in a different currency…   Sounds strange, I realize.   But back then, as the vice president of a global mutual fund, one of my jobs was to execute our fund's trades.   Once our U.S. trading day was done, we wanted our money to work for us overnight as well. We might put our money into French francs, German marks, or somewhere else – just for the night.   We would find the safest country that was paying the highest interest rate. And we would put our money there overnight. No kidding.   As I'll explain today, what we were doing wasn't anything special…   Big companies like German automaker Volkswagen and Japanese automaker Honda (and thousands of other companies) have cash-management departments that do basically the same thing – on a much larger scale.

Small SUVs are the hottest segment in the new car market right now. So maybe it shouldn’t be surprising that a big chunk of the new vehicle unveilings at the Los Angeles Auto Show were little crossover SUVs.

It seemed like there was an SUV popping out every time you turned around. For starters, Ford unveiled its new EcoSport just before the show with DJ Khaled doing the honors.

The Jeep Compass is another example of the car market’s madness for small-sized SUVs. The current version is a strong seller despite abysmal reviews. Consumer Reports gave it the lowest rating of any compact SUV and Car & Driver awarded it a mere 1.5 out of a possible five stars.

And yet, as of last month, Jeep Compass sales for the year were up 44%. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCAM), which makes Jeeps, the sales jump reflects the Compass’s relatively low price given all the desirable SUV features that it offers.

DJ Khaled unveils new Ford EcoSport on Snapchat

It’s too soon to know, of course, how good the new Compass is but it should at least be a vast improvement over the outgoing model. Since it’s a Jeep, engineers took off-road capability seriously in creating the new Compass. Two different full-time all-wheel-drive systems are available including a super-slow off-road “crawl” gearing ratio. “Trail Rated” versions can wade through 19 inches of water and climb over steep hills and out of tight ditches. At the same time, Jeep also promises better on-road behavior.

Higher rates can hurt stocks of companies like homebuilders, which rely on affordable mortgage rates for their customers. “Nobody trusts the homebuilders past the day they report because the litany is always: ‘This is the last good quarter when it comes to Lennar (LEN) , Toll Brothers (TOL) , D.R. Horton (DHI) , Taylor Morrison (TMHC) and PulteGroup (PHM) .'”

Next week is big for housing numbers. March existing home sales figures are scheduled for  Monday and new home sales for March along with the February S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index on Tuesday. As for homebuilders, Pulte Group, Inc. (NYSE: PHM) is scheduled to report  Q1 results Tuesday, and D.R. Horton Inc (NYSE: DHI) is scheduled to report fiscal Q2 numbers on Thursday. The industry already has seen strong Q1 results from Lennar Corporation (NYSE: LEN), and housing starts and building permits in March rose more than expected. These results, as well as those and the economic data from next week could provide clues for the industry going forward. After NVR, Inc. (NYSE: NVR) reports results this morning, Meritage Homes Corp. (NYSE: MTH) releases its Q1 results April 25. We’ll have to wait until next month for some of the other homebuilders, as well as from home improvement companies Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE: HD) and Lowe’s Companies Inc (NYSE: LOW), before we get a more complete snapshot of the housing market.

Shares of department stores such as Kohl’s (KSS) and an electronics retailer like Best Buy (BBY) have run up this year on expectations of consumers shopping till they drop this spring/summer. Considering there are more than 83 million millennials in the U.S., that’s a big pool of humans letting down some of the country’s biggest companies.

Two years ago, I discussed LVMH (OTCPK:LVMUY) (OTCPK:LVMHF) in another article here on Seeking Alpha. Although I wasnt too impressed with the companys free cash flow yield, I did agree this company deserved a premium valuation. And on top of that, I was expecting its strong growth results to continue in the years ahead. Were now two years later, and LVMH has delivered on every front. Unfortunately the market caught up on that as well, and LVMHs share price has doubled in just two years. And although the LVMH results justify a good performance of the share price, I do think LVMH is getting a little pricey.

Top Stocks To Watch For 2018

Given its valuation, Under Armour (NYSE:UA) (NYSE:UAA) is still a risky stock here, but the first quarter 2018 financial results were released earlier this week, which weren’t as bad as many thought, and the resulting price action gave the bulls some hope.

The reversal in the share price on the morning of the report was the first positive: the initial reaction to the Q1 ’18 earnings report was that the stock rose 2.6% pre-open, and then fell 6% during the conference call (trading down near $17), and then once the NYSE opened and general trading began, UAA rose steadily all day, finishing within $0.10 of its high and closing over $18.

It doesn’t seem like much, but technically-inclined investors will tell you that is far better action than the opposite on a company reporting a strong quarter.

However, let’s look at the numbers:

Will Apple Launch a 16K Mixed Reality Headset in 2020?

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is developing a mixed reality headset that will blend AR and VR features, according toa recent CNET report. That wouldn’t be surprising, since Apple recently acquired several AR and VR firms and launched its ARKit development kit with iOS 11. Leaked patents also revealed the development of an iPhone-powered headset.

However, CNET’s report — which cites an unidentified person “familiar with Apple’s plans” — reveals many more details about the secretive project, allegedly codenamed T288. According to the report: The design includes a 16K display, consisting of an 8K display per eye, for a stand-alone headset. The headset wouldn’t be tethered to a PC or smartphone; instead, it would be wirelessly connected to a dedicated “box” powered by a next-gen custom Apple processor. The device could be launched for the consumer market in 2020.

Why would Apple make a mixed reality headset?

The most common criticism about Apple is its financial dependence on the iPhone, which generated 62% of its revenues during the second quarter of 2018. To diversify beyond the iPhone, Apple needs new hardware products. Apple Watch sales have risen in recent quarters, but the smartwatch still doesn’t generate enough revenue to be reported alongside the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Looking back, the iPod, iPhone, and iPad were all significant products for the tech market because they reinvented existing products. Apple didn’t invent the MP3 player, smartphone, or tablet, but it made sleek, consumer-friendly versions that fixed the flaws in existing products.

Apple likely sees a similar opportunity in the VR/AR/mixed reality headset market, which is filled with ambitious but flawed devices. Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) Oculus Rift and HTC’s Vive offer high-end VR experiences, but the devices are pricey, bulky, and need to be tethered to PCs via wires and external sensors. Facebook is addressing some of these issues with the stand-alone Oculus Go, but the headset offers a much lower-fidelity experience than its big brother.

Facebook's Oculus Go.

Facebook’s Oculus Go. Image source: Oculus VR.

As a result, only a niche group of gamers use the Rift and Vive for gaming. Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation VR for the PS4 faces the same problem. It sold 2 million PSVRs by the end of 2017, but that represents a sliver of the 78 million PS4s it sold worldwide.

In the low-end market, cheaper Cardboard and Gear VR-like devices let users quickly convert smartphones to VR headsets. These experiences gave mainstream users a taste of VR, but they don’t match the high-fidelity experiences of the Rift or Vive. As a result, many mobile users likely played with just a few VR apps before losing interest.

Meanwhile, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) teased the future of “mixed reality” with the HoloLens, but only a $3,000 developer version is currently available. The company hasn’t revealed when it will launch a cheaper consumer version, but recent reports indicate that it won’t launch a newversion until 2019. For now, Microsoft is letting its hardware partners test the waters by launching cheaper “Windows Mixed Reality” headsets.

Could Apple move the market forward?

If Apple plans to release its headset in 2020, it’s likely waiting for technologies to improve enough so that it can launch a device that offers a high-fidelity experience at a reasonable price.

But Apple isn’t sitting still. Its latest iPhones are equipped with new depth-sensing cameras and computer vision chips, which are ideal for AR apps, and it showcased AR and face-tracking features with the Animoji and unlock features for the iPhone X. App intelligence firm Sensor Tower recently reported that over 13 million AR apps built withApple’s ARKit have already been downloaded since its release with iOS 11 last September.

Apple could be slowly building an AR app ecosystem before it releases a dedicated headset. Attracting more developers to ARKit could let it start on firmer footing than Facebook, HTC, Sony, and Microsoft, which prioritized hardware launches over software development in their initial forays into the AR/VR market.

The road ahead

The AR market could growfrom $3.3 billion in 2015 to $133.8 billion in 2021, according to Zion Market Research. That represents a huge growth opportunity for Apple, but investors should take that forecast — and the T288 rumors — with a grain of salt. Apple is likely focused on the growth of the AR market, but time will tell if this device sees the light of day.

Micron Technology, Inc. Stock Will Continue Its Stratospheric Ascent

For quite some time, I’ve pounded the table on Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU), buying into its recovery story. So far, it’s been the right call. On a year-to-date basis, MU stock is up a robust 30%. This mooning is all the more impressive considering the Trump administration’s hardball posturing against the Asia-Pacific region.

Despite the well-deserved enthusiasm, I concede that investors considering Micron stock now have a tough time assessing the situation. Sure, you may love the company’s fundamentals, and the growing semiconductor industry; however, who wants to buy at the top of the market. Given that MU has soared nearly five-fold since February 2016, I understand the hesitation.

Additionally, the semiconductor industry isn’t known for its stability. If you want somewhat decent predictability in your investments, semiconductors’ boom-bust cycle makes MU stock undesirable. Also, Micron must contend with the nasty legal battle with United Microelectronics Corp (ADR) (NYSE:UMC).

To add insult to injury, Micron stock is down nearly 12% from its closing high this year. I’m not going to mislead you: MU can get ugly in a hurry. Plus, with our President’s not-so-great attitude towards Asian leaders — and with Asia being a key semiconductor player — investing in Micron is guaranteed to be eventful, no matter what its ultimate trajectory.

But if you’ve got the iron constitution to handle the volatility, MU stock has upsides you don’t want to miss!

The Semiconductor Market Is Stronger Than You Think

Back in 2015, almost everyone was writing Micron’s obituary. MU stock was basically halved, sending shareholders scrambling for the exits. Thankfully, those dreadful days are long gone.

Today, we can look at the situation with clearer and calmer eyes. The reality is that, despite some hiccups here and there, the semiconductor market is much stronger than you might realize.

During the 1990s, the average annual growth rate for worldwide semiconductor sales was just under 13%. semiconductor worldwide sales, MU stockOver the next 10 years, this growth fell to 6%. Although individual years saw tremendous upside, the decade also saw the tech bubble collapse, the Sept. 11 terrorist attack and the 2008 financial crisis. It was simply too much for the industry to overcome.

In the present decade, however, circumstances have improved significantly. Currently, we’re maintaining an 8% average growth rate. This is significant because it indicates the sector is not yet maturing. Plenty of upside remains, which is great news for Micron stock long-term.

MU Is Improving Its Lot Against Competitors

Plying your trade in a growing and robust industry is always a positive. However, in order to stand out, you have to make headway against your key competitors. That’s exactly what Micron is doing.

While the worldwide semiconductor market has been rising, MU chipped away at its rivals, stealing market share. In the first three years of this decade, Micron’s share of total industry revenues averaged 2.5%. Between 2013-2016, the company’s average haul was 4.1%.

And, last year, Micron took away 5.5% — a 34% improvement over the aforementioned average share.

Of course, stealing market share from your competition is one thing, stealing where it matters is quite another. The results from management’s aggressive strategies is clearly evident. Presently, only two companies have over 20% market share in the critical NAND and DRAM markets — SK Hynix and Micron. SK Hynix leads, but by less than a 3% margin.

The others? They’re far behind. Toshiba Corp (OTCMKTS:TOSBF), Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE), and Samsung Electronics have 11.5%, 10.5% and 8.4% market share, respectively.

Strong Financials and Smart Decision-Making

Usually, high-flying companies don’t have the greatest financials — the riskiest plays tend to be the most lucrative. So those who are considering MU stock should reflect on the underlying organization’s fundamentals.

For starters, operating and net margins are among the best in the business. It also has a three-year revenue growth curve that exceeds more than two-thirds of the competition. And although I don’t put much weight on this metric, against earnings, MU is significantly undervalued.

Where I’m really impressed is management’s excellent prioritization skills. As revenues climbed, so too did costs and expenses. However, Micron has put more of its money where it counts — in research and development. Over the past four years, R&D expenses have increased 33%, whereas SGA expenses have gone up only 5%.

Every company has to institute cost discipline; that’s just the name of the game these days. But I’m glad to see that management is setting itself up for present and future success. That’s why I remain confident in Micron stock.

The phrase “over the top television” – or its acronym “OTT” – aren’t necessarily newly-coined ones. The phrase/abbreviation materialized shortly after Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) became a viable alternative to traditional cable television services less than a decade ago. The over-the-top race didn’t really heat up, however, until the past few months. Once it did heat up though, sparks started to fly in earnest.

They’re still flying too, and will be for a while if a small startup called Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) has anything to say about it. Netflix, Hulu [jointly owned by Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ:FOXA)] and all the rest of the relatively new players in this space may want to look over their shoulder. In the meantime, investors may want to take a step back and look at where the real money in the OTT industry is going to be made during the next 10 years. OTTV plays a prominent role in that picture.

Contrary to popular belief, Netflix isn’t the totally dominant name it used to be in the Internet-delivered television industry. It was admittedly the first on the scene, and therefore was able to carve out the biggest piece of the market (which it still holds to this day). It’s largely become a commoditized business though.

Case in point? Aside from Hulu and Netflix, CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) has jumped into the game with its product called CBS All Access. The service allows subscribers, for a nominal monthly fee, to access a variety of CBS programming via the Internet. HBO, from Time Warner Inc (NYSE:TWX), has found respectable success with its subscription-based Internet television service called HBO Go.

Sling TV, from DISH Network Corp (NASDAQ:DISH), has really broken new ground in the over the top market by aggregating a variety of television channels into an entire package and then selling that package at a rate that’s much less than what it would cost a cable subscriber

Best Blue Chip Stocks To Buy For 2018

On Tuesday, stocks closed mixed with a preference for small-caps as they took gains in some blue chips and big-cap stocks.

Profit-taking started immediately, with a divergence of better-quality stocks being sold. Banks and other financials fell 1.4% at the close, while technology gained 0.9% and consumer discretionary rose 0.5%. Eight of the eleven sectors of the 500 lost ground. From the election until Monday most investing was based on the expectations that the new administration will increase fiscal spending and lower corporate tax rates. The goal is to raise interest rates, inflation and promote growth.

Yesterday buying slowed slightly, but floor traders said that consolidations are a good sign and that the “reflation trade” will probably resume again. The chief investment officer at Wells Fargo Private Bank was quoted by The Wall Street Journal who said “there’s a level of optimism I haven’t seen in a while.”

Crude oil WTI fell 0.7% at $45.56 per barrel due to an EIA report that crude oil supplies increased by 5.27 million barrels instead of an estimate of 1.48 million.
