Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Financial services companies rely on the health of the markets to bring them business from the large institutions that are their best customers. With a bull market that’s almost a decade long at this point, Wall Street has never been stronger, and that’s given a big boost to financial information technology specialist Envestnet (NYSE:ENV). Yet as volatility returns to the stock market in early 2018, some investors feared that Envestnet’s time in the sun might soon end and give way to more difficult conditions looking ahead.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: The Blackstone Group L.P.(BX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Gramercy Property Trust stock soared 15.5% in the wake of the real estate investment trust (REIT) getting a buyout bid from a would-be acquirer. A fund run by institutional investment giant Blackstone Group (NYSE:BX) announced that it would pay $27.50 per share in cash for Gramercy, putting the total value of the company at $7.6 billion. Coming on the heels of another deal in the sector, those following REITs are pleased to see buying interest even in the face of rising interest rates, which would ordinarily depress valuations. If all goes well, Blackstone hopes to close on the Gramercy deal sometime during the second half of the year.

Sanchez Energy’s stock has continued to run higher in 2017 and is up nearly 50% since the start of the year. Fueling that surge is the announcement that the company found an exceptional place to put its liquidity to work. In mid-January, the company unveiled a strategic partnership with a private equity giant, Blackstone Group (NYSE:BX), to acquire Anadarko Petroleum’s (NYSE:APC) Eagle Ford shale assets for $2.3 billion. Under the terms of the deal, Sanchez and Blackstone entered a 50-50 partnership to own the Anadarko assets, which consist of 155,000 net acres that currently produce 67,000 BOE/D and hold more than 4,000 drilling locations that are economic at current prices. Sanchez will finance its share of the deal with cash on hand, a new bank lending arrangement, and a preferred equity issuance to Blackstone’s credit arm.

SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS) is probably the most famous example of a company that’s suffered from animal cruelty allegations. Shares of the theme park operator, backed by Blackstone (BX) , have never recovered from the release of the 2013 documentary Blackfish, which argued that orca captivity is inhumane and dangerous to the human trainers of the orcas. SeaWorld announced in March that it would phase out its orca captivity, breeding and live shows. The company’s remaining whales, most of which were born in captivity, will live out their lives at the parks. The news sent SeaWorld shares soaring 9%, but continued attendance drops forced the company to slash its dividend and invest $175 million in new attractions.

Wien continues to believe the S&P 500 will rally back after testing the lows, charting a path to 3,000 by year end.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: Old National Bancorp Capital Trust I(ONB)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By kiplinger]

Old National Bancorp (ONB) is a 181-year-old financial institution with 195 branches, mainly in the Midwest. The stock, which is still down by about one-third from its prerecession high, trades at just 13 times projected 2016 earnings and yields an attractive 3.4%. If interest rates ever rise, the bank should benefit from a widening spread between its cost of funds and the interest rates borrowers pay.

It’s a favorite of David Dreman, author of the classic 1980 book Contrarian Investment Strategy. His philosophy: “We believe that the markets are not perfectly efficient.” Some stocks, in other words, are judged by the market to be cheaper than their actual worth.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: Brookfield Renewable Powerr Fund(BEP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Last year was an exceptional one for Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP). The renewable power company generated $581 million in funds from operations (FFO), which was up more than 30% from 2016. Because of that, the company was able to raise its already high-yielding distribution by another 5% so that it now yields about 6.4%.

  • [By Timothy Green, Matthew DiLallo, and Nicholas Rossolillo]

Of course, holding on to the wrong stock for decades can be disastrous, so it’s critical that you’re picky about your long-term investments. If you’re short on ideas, three of our contributors think Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP), Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.B), and Booking Holdings (NASDAQ:BKNG) are fantastic options.

  • [By Tyler Crowe, Leo Sun, and Brian Feroldi]

With this in mind, we asked three of our Fool.com contributors to highlight a stock they consider a great dividend stock for someone in retirement. Here’s why they picked Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), and Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP).

  • [By Federico Zaldua]

I expect the Brookfield Group of Companies, which is composed of no fewer than 15 publicly traded entities, to be very active acquisitive in the near-term future. Here I focus my attention on three members of the Brookfield Group that are going to be the most active with M&A. While Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) will concentrate its M&A efforts into all geographies and all asset classes, Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners (BEP) and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (BIP) will concentrate on their respective industries. Let’s see whether you should go long on any of this separate -although related – entities.

    Good Operational Performance

Brookfield Asset Management, held by Lou Simpson and Ron Baron, counts with a liquidity position of more than $5 billion at the parent and principal subsidiaries along with nearly $10 billion drawable private fund commitments. More importantly, the company has expressed its interest into using this liquidity to make acquisitions. Management clearly stated in its letter to shareholders:

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Renewable energy has quietly become one of the best places for investors to find high-quality dividends that sport high yields as well. Yieldcos likeBrookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP), TerraForm Power (NASDAQ:TERP), Pattern Energy (NASDAQ:PEGI), and NRG Yield (NYSE:NYLD) (NYSE:NYLD-A)have yields of over 5% along with long-term contracted cash flows to sell energy to utilities.
