UBSs Marc Goodman weighed in today on Teva Pharmaceuticals (TEVA) following yesterdays run by the stocks on the heels of the better-than-expected 1Q financial results by the drug maker.

Offered up these highlight from the conference call with management, proclaiming that there are four things we believe investors need to hear.

[Management sounds] confident in the AGN deal going through and has identified buyers for the majority of products to be divested. While divestitures are higher than expected, management will cut more costs to maintain the previously expected bottom line accretion. The U.S. generic drug pricing environment has not changed, and management still sees about 4% impact in 2016, which is similar to levels last year. The underlying base business for Teva is performing as expected, and it still expects sustainable growth in the global generics business of more than 5%. That includes a 10% gain from new products offset by a 5% hit from price/volume.

Still, Goodman encourages investors to wait and see before buying the stock.

This could be a big win for the electronic health records (EHR) providers, such as athenahealth(NASDAQ:ATHN) andCerner(NASDAQ:CERN). Detailed, interoperable EHRs that can be shared across hospitals will be crucial for maintaining accurate patient records and developing improved treatment routines. That could, in turn, provide better patient outcomes.

Canaccord Genuity’s Richard Close and Brian Hoffman contend Cerner may be “rediscovered its mojo.” They explain:

We reiterate our BUY rating and raise our PT to $66 (was $59) as the company finally
appears to have provided quarterly and annual targets that it can meet. Possibly more important, analyst expectations sit near the mid-point of guidance, portending upside potential. The outlook appears solid as the company (1) rebuilds a track record of delivering on expectations, (2) reaffirmed confidence in 2017 bookings growth, and (3) has a strengthened pipeline for ITWorks and revenue cycle. CERN may have rediscovered its mojo.

Cerner’s market capitalization rose to $21.4 billion today from $19.8 billion yesterday.

A major British construction company is going into liquidation after failing to secure a financial lifeline.

Carillion (CIOIF), which employs 43,000 people around the world, said in a statement Monday that rescue talks with stakeholders including the British government had collapsed.

“We have been unable to secure the funding to support our business plan, and it is therefore with the deepest regret that we have arrived at this decision,” Carillion Chairman Philip Green said in the statement.

Carillion, which has roughly half its global workforce in Britain, has its roots in the construction business. But it also builds infrastructure for high speed rail and power distribution projects, and provides services to the government.

Green said that the U.K. government will provide funds to keep the company’s public services, which include school lunches and prison management, in operation.

PricewaterhouseCoopers will oversee the firm’s liquidation.

Top 10 Financial Stocks To Buy For 2019

As President Trump prepares to address the nation Monday evening to announce his strategy in Afghanistan, it’s worth noting how much the longest U.S. war in the country’s history has already cost Americans financially.

The most current estimate pegs the number at $841 billion. That comes from Anthony Cordesman, the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Cordesman, who served as a consultant to the Departments of State and Defense during the Afghan and Iraq wars, says that figure includes President Trump’s budget request for next year.

Related from CNN: Afghanistan: 16 years, thousands dead and no clear end in sight

Other estimates place the 16-year cost in the trillions of dollars because they measure a broader range of factors.

For instance, Neta Crawford, a co-director of the Cost of Wars Project at Brown University, has estimated that total war spending in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan since 2001 is approaching $5 trillion. Of that, roughly $2 trillion is attributable to Afghanistan. That includes some future cost obligations.

BMO’s Charles Sebaski explains why he upgraded American International Group (AIG) to Outperform from market Perform:

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

AIG has been trading at discount to its tangible book given its mid-single digit return profile; however, we expect AIGs valuation to keep increasing with its improving return profile. We are now forecasting AIG to generate a 9.9% operating return on tangible common equity (ROtE) in 2018, which would be a 450 bp improvement from 2016. A double-digit return profile warrants the 1x multiple that we are applying to its tangible book value per share. While we expect AIGs return profile to benefit from lower taxes, we also expect the companys life and retirement business to improve from the rising interest rates as those spread businesses are more interest rate sensitive than the P&C business. That said, we expect continued improvement on both the loss and expense sides of the P&C as contributing factors to the ROtE improve.

BMO also upgraded Arch Capital Group (ACGL), Brown & Brown (BRO), and Travelers (TRV).

Shares of American International Group have declined 0.4% to $65.60 at 3:36 p.m. today, whileArch Capital Group has gained 2% to $87.90,Brown & Brown has advanced 0.5% to $44.65, andTravelers has risen 1.3% to $120.79.

Catalonia will continue to count the cost of its drive for independence, according to BBVA Research.

The Madrid-based bank sees the Catalan economy trailing the performance of Spain overall, as indicators point to weakness across the board from job creation to consumer spending. The lender’s research department sees Catalonia, the biggest regional economy, growing 2.1 percent this year compared to a forecast of 2.5 percent for the whole of Spain.

BBVA says political uncertainty pegged to the region’s push for unilateral independence is weighing on growth. The expansion in the first half of 2018 will be below the average over the past three years – with all main economic indicators trailing their estimates before the illegal referendum in October, according to BBVA.

Top 5 High Tech Stocks To Invest In 2019

There’s a certain awkwardness to the Federal Reserve’s benchmark interest rate.

Unlike most other major central banks, the Fed doesn’t use a simple, single rate but rather sets its target as a range. And so when policy makers raise borrowing costs — as they did in March — it can read like a jumble of numbers. In last month’s case, the rate went from a minimum of 1.25 percent and a maximum of 1.5 percent to a minimum of 1.5 percent and maximum of 1.75 percent.

The current system was created during the depths of the financial crisis a decade ago. Its adoption allowed the Fed to avoid cutting the benchmark rate all the way to zero, which officials saw as potentially dangerous. (They initially settled on a range of zero to 0.25 percent.) And then, when they began lifting borrowing costs years later, it made sense to stick with the range because there were new and unknown variables at work and they weren’t sure how precisely they could control the rate.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another stock that’s starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Nam Tai Electronics (NTE), which is an electronics manufacturing and design services provider to a select group of the world’s leading OEMs of telecommunications and consumer electronic products. This stock has been destroyed by the sellers so far in 2013, with shares off sharply by 41%.

If you look at the chart for Nam Tai Electronics, you’ll notice that this stock has been uptrending for the last month and change, with shares moving higher from its low of $6.05 to its recent high of $8.38 a share. During that uptrend, shares of NTE have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of NTE within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in NTE if it manages to break out above some key near-term overhead resistance levels at $8.38 to $8.79 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 647,483 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then NTE will set up to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone from April that started near $11.50 a share. If this stock gets into that gap with volume, then the upside is tremendous and we could easily see NTE hit $11 to $12 a share.

Traders can look to buy NTE off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day at $7.42 a share, or below more key support at $7.22 a share. One can also buy NTE off strength once it takes out that breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

The main conclusions we draw from the abstracts (lacking information about late breakers) is that Gileads dominance of HCV seems secure for the immediate future, with sof/vel (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir) showing impressive efficacy in difficult-to-treat patient subsets. Competitors have early data for their new HCV development efforts (Merck (MRK) [MP], Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) [OP], AbbVie (ABBV)) but will not present new clinical data at this meeting.

After surveying doctors on the preferred hepatitis-C treatments, Baird’s Brian Skorney and Neena Bitritto-Garg contend that Gilead Sciences (GILD) is likely to maintain its dominance over AbbVie (ABBV), Merck (MRK) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) but in what appears to be a shrinking market. They explain:

Raymond James analyst Christopher Raymond and team sayAbbVie (ABBV) is “not your father’s biotech company” as they initiate coverage with an Outperform rating:

Kevin Hagen for The Wall Street Journal

Initiating coverage of ABBV shares with an Outperform rating and an $82 price target as we think uncertainty over Humira’s intellectual property (IP) creates an opportunity to own this name at a significant discount to its peers before the full extent of the drug’s revenue tail becomes reflected in the stock. Coupling that with a rapidly diversifying portfolio, numerous upcoming value-enhancing catalysts, and a decent dividend yield, we think shares can continue to work higher over the next several quarters.

Not your father’s biotech company. Having spun out of Abbott Laboratories (ABT) in 2013, and based in North Chicago, IL, AbbVie comes with a decidedly different pedigree than most biotechs. Indeed, most investors we speak with tend to lump the company in with large pharma – simply by virtue of this legacy. However, with a growth profile, product offering, and pipeline that is every bit that of a biotech company, we think this name should increasingly be viewed through such a lens…

We think the stock can continue to work from here. While Humira still accounts for ~60% of revenue, AbbVie has made great strides toward diversification (with some seen as smart deals, others – the jury is still out), all of which poise the company for significant catalyst flow, in our view. Coupling that with current mid-teens EPS growth, a dividend yield of ~3.5%, and current P/E of ~13x 2016E EPS, we like the set up here.

Shares of AbbVie are little changed at $64.06 at 3:01 p.m. today, while Abbott Laboratories has declined 0.5% to $42.07.

ISIS recruiting on teen social networks Twitter has significantly ramped up its anti-ISIS efforts by shutting down thousands of terrorists’ accounts and adding staff to monitor terrorist activity on its network.

The social media company said in a blog post Friday that it has suspended 125,000 accounts over the past seven months for threatening or promoting terrorist acts. Most of the people behind the accounts were affiliated with or supported ISIS, Twitter said.

ISIS recruiters have successfully used Twitter to lure disillusioned people to join their cause.

“We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism,” the company said in the blog post. “As the nature of the terrorist threat has changed, so has our ongoing work in this area.”

At Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Healthcare Conference on Friday, Amgen, Inc.’s (AMGN) Investor Relations VP Arvind Sood suggested that the biotech company could boost its dividend meaningfully through 2015.

Sood believes that the company will be able to deliver significant EPS growth over the next two years. This is partially due to Amgen’s deal to acquire Onyxx Pharmaceuticals, which should be accretive to adjusted profit growth. As such, Sood said he sees Amgen boosting its dividend over that time frame, with a payout ratio of 75% to 80%. For more on payout ratios, see The Truth About Dividend Payout Ratio.

By 2017, Sood believes that Amgen will hit global sales of $41 billion.

Amgen shares were up 54 cents, or 0.48%, during pre-market trading on Friday. The stock is up 31.62% year-to-date.

Focused on development and commercialization of products for the aesthetic medicine market, Kythera is led by a highly experienced management team, boasting impressive record in the pharmaceutical industry and the aesthetic medicine market, as former Allergan (AGN) and Amgen (AMGN) executives. Kythera has been flying under the radar since its October 2012 IPO, and the successful completion of the Phase III program is expected to bring KYTH to the front, and in our opinion, makes it a buyout target.

Enter CVR Partners LP (NYSE: UAN), the only company in the US to produce fertilizer from petroleum coke (petcoke). Petcoke is a byproduct of petroleum refining, and prices are usually set off coal prices, since these two products compete in the same niche. Thus the same dynamics that currently threaten the distributions of Rentech Nitrogen Partners and Terra Nitrogen Company play in CVR Partners’ favor.

Unlike ConocoPhillips (COP), Hess’s (HES) dividend wasn’t big enough to move the needle if cut. So it’s selling stock instead:

    Bloomberg News

Hess has priced the concurrent offering of ~28.8mm shares of common stock and ~11.5mm depositary shares, assuming the over-allotment options are exercised. The depositary shares represent a 1/20th interest in each share of Hess 8% Mandatory Convertible Preferred Stock, which unless converted earlier at the option of the holder will convert on or around February 1st, 2019 into Hess common shares. Based on the equity offering price of $39/share, we estimate total net proceeds of ~$1.65bn net common offering proceeds of $1.09bn and net depositary share offering proceeds of ~$558mm. The offerings represent ~10% of Hess prior outstanding share count and ~15% on fully diluted basis including the conversion of the convertible preferred shares.

Hess said it will use the proceeds from the offerings for general corporate purposes and to strengthen its balance sheet. Prior to the offering, Hess already had one of the strongest balance sheets within our E&P coverage group with a net debt/capitalization ratio of ~14% at YE15 and more than ~$2.7bn of cash on its balance sheet. However, based on current NYMEX strip prices and after dividends, Hess was confronting a ~$2.0bn cash flow outspend this year and another ~$2.3bn in 2017. Mgmt. emphasized that it has no intention to cut the companys dividend.

Mgmt. emphasized that the offerings were not intended to pre-fund any M&A activity or to accelerate drilling activity.

Shares of Hess have tumbled 11% to $38.89 at 1:26 p.m. today, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) has fallen 2.2% to $56.
