Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now

All the doom and gloom surrounding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), which centers primarily on weak demand for its flagship iPhone X and the growing saturation in the smartphone market, hasn’t fazed one famed investor. Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK-A) (NYSE:BRK-B) CEO Warren Buffett, who is arguably one of the most well-known and successful investors of all time, has continued to buy massive caches of the iPhone maker’s stock.

Buffett added a mind-boggling 75 million Apple shares last quarter — on top of the 165.3 million shares Berkshire already owned — increasing its share count by a whopping 45%. That brings the company’s total stake in Apple up to about 5% of shares.

If the naysayers are right, why does the Oracle of Omaha continue stocking up on Apple’s shares?

A short history

In case you haven’t been following along, it wasn’t Buffett but rather one of his top lieutenants who first purchased Apple stock in early 2016. After reviewing that initial purchase, Buffett himself began loading up on Apple shares, buying considerably more during the quarter, with purchases totaling 10 million shares.

Monday wasn’t a good day for the stock market, as most major benchmarks gave up early gains to finish lower. Investors continued to be nervous about interest rates, which appear to be on the rise as a strong earnings season continues. Consistently climbing oil prices also have had a mixed impact on market sentiment, with energy investors generally liking the trend while others worry about the potential inflationary impact that higher costs could bring. Adding to the gloom was bad news about some individual companies that sent their shares sharply lower. Chicago Bridge & Iron (NYSE:CBI), Akorn (NASDAQ:AKRX), and Flotek (NYSE:FTK) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

Hot Medical Stocks To Watch For 2019: CenturyLink, Inc.(CTL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Billy Duberstein]

For a great example, look no further than the recent note from MKM analyst Michael Genovese. Genovese anticipates large systems vendor Ciena (NYSE:CIEN) may end up stealing away large customer CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL) from smaller competitor Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN). That could be a huge win for Ciena and a huge blow to Infinera, and the episode is emblematic of this period in the industry.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) which fell about 8% to $21.05. The stock’s 52-week range is $13.16 to $24.20. Volume was about 27.5 million compared to the daily average volume of 9.5 million.

  • [By Leo Sun, Jamal Carnette, CFA, and Nicholas Rossolillo]

AT&T’s (NYSE:T) massive moat, its high forward yield of 6.2%, and its status as a Dividend Aristocrat make it a favorite income investment for many investors. It might seem tough to find a stable company that pays a higher yield than AT&T, but three stocks fit that description: GEO Group (NYSE:GEO), Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners (NYSE:BEP), and CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL).

  • [By Jason Hall]

If you bought this time last year, Centurylink Inc. (NYSE:CTL) and Pattern Energy Group Inc. (NASDAQ:PEGI) haven’t exactly been great investments, with share prices down 33% and 19%, respectively, while the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) has gained 15%. Even when we factor in dividends, they lost investors money while the market delivered more than 17% in total returns.

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

The quest for chunky dividends has sent income investors scurrying into independent local exchange carriers in the past, but it’s a whole new ballgame in the telecom space these days. Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR) — which at one point earlier this year was packing a yield north of 36% — suspended its payout in February. CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL) is still shelling out a fat dividend that yields nearly 12%, but it has been making needle-moving acquisitions to diversify its business.

Second, and building on that previous point, what mortgage REITs might lack with a less-than-perfect rising-rate environment, they’ve gained in managerial experience. With the exception of industry juggernaut Annaly Capital Management (NYSE:NLY), virtually no other mortgage REITs had much experience prior to the Great Recession. However, most of these publicly traded mortgage REITs now have a decade or more of experience under their belts. This experience should come in handy as lending rates rise.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Monday was a big day on Wall Street, with major benchmarks moving generally higher to start the week. Strong performance in the energy market once again led stocks higher, including a nice gain in oil prices to move above the $72-per-barrel mark. The small-cap Russell 2000 Index hit another record high, but some companies reported news that prevented them from participating in the broader-based rally. Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB), Qudian (NYSE:QD), and U.S. Steel (NYSE:X) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Shares of U.S. Steel (NYSE:X) have been red-hot over the past year, surging nearly 60%. Driving those gains has been a significant improvement in the company’s earnings due to higher steel prices. In the first quarter, the steelmaker reported $57 million, or $0.32 per share, of adjusted earnings, which was a vast improvement from the adjusted loss of $145 million, or $0.83 per share, it reported in the year-ago quarter.

Best Energy Stocks To Watch For 2019

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you probably know that countries around the world are trying to slowly phase out coal from the power grid. And they’ve largely succeeded. Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU), one of the world’s largest producers, has lost nearly 90% of its market value over the past five years.

But across from any loser there is a winner. In this case, natural gas has supplanted coal as the chief power source in the developed world. It accounts for one-third of the electricity in the United States, more than coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, and all other sources.

—Sponsored Link— This Breakthrough New Technology ‘Will Change The World’
A tiny Silicon Valley company just made an announcement that shocked the tech world… They reported that they recently received FCC approval for a revolutionary new device that does something many people had previously thought impossible — something that, until now, only existed in science fiction. And once this new technology gets incorporated into hotels, restaurants, airports, coffee shops, and even entire cities… it could be a trillion-dollar business. Click here to discover what this new technology is, and how it’s about to forever change your life.

That’s partially because it’s plentiful and inexpensive, but also cleaner-burning and more environmentally friendly — emitting less than one-tenth the pollutants of coal. Natural gas will play a key role in meeting the future energy needs of a growing world.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Buy For 2019

On Monday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested going long on small cap international school stock Nord Anglia Education Inc (NYSE: NORD):

We’re stepping into Nord Anglia Education on a little bit of faith that the convergence of support and resistance since early last year is building up a breakout move. We also like the way NORD is finding support at its key long-term moving average lines, which should aid any bullish thrust by acting as a launchpad. What’s really so compelling, however, is the way the bullish volume has been building. The buyers have been testing the waters, but many more are apt to be waiting in the wings.

Note that unless we get a very good jump soon, we won’t be lingering in this trade for very long. The ceiling at $24.52 is a big one we don’t want to see any hesitation at.

The Intelligent Investor was written in 1949, but it’s still as relevant nearly 70 years later as it was back then. Benjamin Graham was right about how crazy the market can be at times. I think the experiences of two very different biotech stocks this week — Celgene (NASDAQ:CELG) and Insys Therapeutics (NASDAQ:INSY)– prove the point.

  • [By ]

Abbvie Inc. (ABBV) , for example, is generally just a pharmaceutical stock. However, the company also marketed Marinol, an FDA-approved synthetic cannabinoid meant to help nausea and vomiting in cancer and AIDS patients. INSYS Therapeutics, Inc. (INSY) is a pharmaceutical company that got approval from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a synthetic cannabis – despite having donated to anti-marijuana advocacy groups in the past.

Insys Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:INSY) and Cara Therapeutics (NASDAQ:CARA) fall into the third category. However, the designations of both Insys and Cara as marijuanastocks warrant an asterisk. Insys’ cannabinoid drug Syndros is based on a synthetic form of THC, the primary psychoactive chemical in marijuana. Cara has a cannabinoid receptor agonist, CR701, in preclinical development.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Buy For 2019: Marathon Oil Corporation(MRO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The company’s Powder River Basinassets also generated strong drilling results, with several wells topping 1,000 BOE/D. Finally, while the company did drill four wells in the Bakken, it has deferred completing them until later this year. That program is one to keep an eye on given the results Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO) delivered last quarter, when it completed record-setting wells in the Three Forks and Middle Bakken formations.

  • [By ]

Presto, West Texas Intermediate crude rose 3% to $71.18, the highest since December 2014, boosting shares of oil companies including Occidental (OXY) , which gained 4.8%, Marathon (MRO) , up 3.8%, and Apache (APA) , which gained 2.5%. Spot gasoline also rose 2.7% to $2.17 a gallon, boding ill for the summer driving season in the U.S. and potentially eroding any gains middle-class Americans received from the Trump tax cuts.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Saudi Aramco’s valuation, however, isn’t the only one that would benefit from a pop in the price of crude. Many oil producers in the U.S. restructured their operations to run on $50 oil, so if the Saudi strategy is successful, these oil companies would produce a gusher of cash flow, which could fuel high-octane gains for investors. While that rise would likely lift the entire sector, Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) and Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO)could outperform in that scenario.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO) is another oil producer built for $50 oil. At that level, Marathon can generate enough cash to grow its U.S. oil production 25% to 30% this year, while at $60 oil, the company can produce $500 million in free cash — and even more at current prices. Marathon Oil has a range of options for that money, including buying back shares, boosting the dividend, paying off debt, or acquiring more drillable land.

Much of the focus of cannabis investors has been centered on Canada and California. This makes sense given that they are the two largest recreational (or soon to be) cannabis markets in the world. However, one publicly traded company with US-centric cannabis operations has taken a different approach. iAnthus Capital is listed in Canada on the CSE (OTCQB:ITHUF), but is headquartered in New York and incorporated in Delaware. Unlike other Canadian-listed cannabis companies, most of which are aiming to get in on the highly competitive green-rush in California and Canada, iAnthus has set its sights on becoming the dominant player on the U.S. East Coast.

Call it global warming. Call it climate change. Maybe it’s a nuance, or maybe your political stance determines how you feel about this debate. 24/7 Wall St. has tracked investment in clean energy and renewable energy for years.

It turns out that 2016 broke the growth cycle for investing in clean energy — and then some.

With a new Trump administration about to take office, it looks like there is a night and day views on climate change versus the Obama administration. That makes this report something which likely cannot be ignored. After all, it was only known for less than two months that Hillary Clinton’s clean energy trends would not continue what was seen under the Obama administration. Still, it’s a big world and many other nations outside of the United States havea seriousrole in clean energy.

The news at the start of 2017 is showing a stark difference for 2016. Bloomberg New Energy Finance now shows that the total dollars of new investments into clean energy fell a whopping 18% down to $287.5 billion in 2016. While the prior year was a record of $348.5 billion, what stands out here now is that the 2016 figure is also represented as being 9% lower than the $315 billion invested into clean energy in 2014.

A review of inflation, interest rates, capacity utilization, and inventory point more towards the middle stage of an expansion.

Basic Materials companies like chemical producers typical do well mid-cycle. Huntsman International has a solid balance sheet, lots of dry powder for strategic opportunities, strong margins, and industry-leading efficiency returns.

The Goldilocks Economy?

Timing this economy has the market on edge. With inflation nearing the Fed's 2 percent target, investors seemed relieved that the FOMC decided to hold off on hiking rates. In the ninth year of the 2nd longest expansion in U.S. history, it is surprising to hear the phrase "Goldilocks economy" in the news. Perhaps fitting, the old children's story tells of a little girl trying to profit before the bears come back home. During her breaking and entering, she finds three bowls of porridge, one too hot, one too cold, and one just right. With inflation growing at a moderate pace while unemployment dips under 4 percent, economists see the economy as not too hot and not too cold.

This would include Annaly Capital Management, which had $90.6 billion of its $101.8 billion in total assets invested in agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) as of Dec. 31, 2017, as well as AGNC Investment Corp. Warren Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Photographer: Daniel Acker/Bloomberg

The world’s best investor, Warren Buffett, has a knack for celebrating Independence Day in style.

Two years ago, Buffett enjoyed the Fourth of July with an extra serving of ketchup, hot dogs and lemonade when Heinz completed its $40 billion takeover of Kraft Foods, creating food and condiments powerhouse Kraft Heinz. This year, the summer holiday is again coinciding with the culmination of a major winning Berkshire Hathaway deal. On Friday, Buffett decided to exercise Berkshire’s 700 million in warrants to buy Bank of America common shares, realizing his most profitable financial sector investment of the crisis era.

In the summer of 2011, Berkshire Hathaway invested $5 billion in Bank of America through preferred stock, helping the then-ailing mega lender raise capital to bolster its balance sheet. At the time, Bank of America shares were reeling due to seemingly unending legal woes stemming from the crisis and its catastrophic acquisition of Countrywide Financial. Other issues, such as a cascading sovereign debt crisis in Europe and fears over a debt default in the United States due to partisan rancor, were largely out of the firm’s control.

Top 5 Low Price Stocks To Watch Right Now

The title of this article may generate strong responses from some, who will reply: “never!” And indeed, if a value trap is defined as a stock that is not a value, then clearly a value trap is never a value. (There aren’t many rich dialetheists on Wall Street.) But let’s take a more nuanced view of a value trap and follow Investopedia.com in defining a value trap, which I quote at some length:

A value trap is a stock that appears to be cheap because the stock has been trading at low multiples of earnings, cash flow or book value for an extended time period. Value traps attract investors who are looking for a bargain because these stocks are inexpensive. The trap springs when investors buy into the company at low prices and the stock never improves. Trading that occurs at low multiples of earnings, cash flow or book value for long periods of time might indicate that the company or the entire sector is in trouble, and that stock prices may not move higher.

When is such a stock, that may not move higher and may never improve, worth buying? This article aims to provide an outline of an answer to that question. Along the way I’ll attempt to note places where I am simplifying the treatment or ignoring potentially important considerations.

Beverage stocks have been a hit-or-miss proposition in the U.S., both for megabrewers and for smaller players in the craft beer, spirits, and soft drink industries. But there are plenty of opportunities internationally to invest in the companies that produce drinks. In Chile, Compania Cervecerias Unidas (NYSE:CCU) produces beer, wine, and soft drinks for several South American countries, and after having seen a slow period to finish 2017, CCU had hoped to find ways to bounce back to start the new year.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now

By Andrew Sebastian

Liberal growth and conservative financing may seem contradictory at first, but the two are not mutually exclusive as Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE:EPD) proves. EPD is undergoing rapid development with $5.6 billion worth of capital projects under current construction, that will start adding to the company’s top and bottom lines starting in 2018. In 2016, over $2 billion worth of projects have been completed or will be completed by year’s end. They include gas processing plants, oil storage facilities and ethane export terminals – a diversification of EPD’s revenue streams that will only continue into 2018. Many of EPD’s current pipelines have upwards of double the capacity, so there is tremendous opportunity for growth. EPD certainly will not be hindered by capacity.

EPD has maintained an investment grade credit rating at Baa1/BBB+ while other MLPs and energy companies have seen their ratings fall in the face of declining energy prices. EPD’s business model is what allows it to keep a healthy credit profile. Although units of EPD may trade at a high correlation to energy prices, the actual underlying fundamentals of the business are not entirely tied to them. EPD’s success comes from its fee-based business with fixed contracts tied to the volume of oil and natural gas it stores and transports, regardless of the prices for oil and natural gas. Only about 15% of EPD’s gross margin is tied directly to oil and gas prices, so a sustained environment in which prices remained subdued does not mean falling cash flow. EPD investors can rest assured that the distributions will keep coming.

Top 5 Bank Stocks To Invest In 2018

The fierce battle for India’s hundreds of millions of mobile users has claimed another casualty.

Aircel, the country’s fifth-largest wireless operator with around 85 million subscribers, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, the latest company in an increasingly cutthroat industry to throw in the towel.

The firm, owned by Malaysian communications group Maxis, said it was folding in the face of “troubled times in a highly financially stressed industry.” Those troubles include “legal and regulatory challenges, high level of unsustainable debt and increased losses,” it said in a statement.

It also blamed “intense competition following the disruptive entry of a new player.”

That disruptive new entrant is Reliance Jio, the $20 billion network founded by India’s wealthiest man, Mukesh Ambani. Soon after launching in September 2016, Jio offered its customers free 4G for the first six months. The network raced to 160 million subscribers by the end of 2017.

There still isn’t a set Snapchat IPO date, but we know one important thing: Snapchat shareholders won’t have voting rights.

This is unprecedented, as Snapchat could be the first company to sell non-voting stock in an IPO on a U.S. stock exchange.

According to Fortune, Snapchat shareholders won’t have the right to:

Nominate, elect, or replace board membersSubmit shareholder proposalsPlace pressure on the board to fire the CEO or anyone in managementApprove or block a merger or takeover offerKnow when a large investor has purchased more than 5% of Snapchat stock

In Snap’s IPO filing, it says this structure is designed to discourage tactics that can be used in proxy fights.

For instance, activist investors will not be able to buy a large position in the company and place pressure on management to increase shareholder value.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch For 2019: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(GMCR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Sterman]

But for short sellers in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (Nasdaq: GMCR), there's another outcome: They've been badly burned as shares have surged, but they insist they've been right all along, and it's only a matter of time before the stock crashes and burns.

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

As badly as short sellers want to hate on Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), betting against the multiyear rally in this $12.7 billion beverage stock has been about as wise as eating from a box with a skull and crossbones on it. And as a bull market continues to lift all ships, Green Mountain’s ship is going to keep floating above the others.

Green Mountain owns Keurig, the brand of beverage brewers that use self-contained K-Cups to make coffee, teas, and other drinks. While Keurig’s “fad” status has certainly helped tip the deck against GMCR, the fact remains that the firm has done most of the hard work in getting Keurig machines accepted by consumers. With brewers essentially ubiquitous at this point, the firm is able to make money on its cash cow: the K-Cups.

Keurig’s individual-serving cups have big margins and a big installed base. With huge convenience and the relatively large sunk cost that consumers have put into their Keurig machines, it’s a sticky business with big switching costs. Consumers who buy a Keurig are much less likely to spend the money on a competing brand of proprietary coffee pods.

I’ve said before that GMCR is far from cheap right now. But its momentum trajectory is showing few signs of fizzling out, especially as direct competitors such as Starbucks (SBUX) continue to sell K-Cups of their own. Don’t bet against GMCR in September – buy this Rocket Stock instead.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch For 2019: Rex Energy Corporation(REXX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Our peer group is up an average of 46% over the past 4 weeks in response to a 30% rebound in the 12-month strip NYMEX oil price. Some of the largest gainers include Hold and Sell rated stocks that we would not chase such asDenbury Resources (Sell, +138%), Halcon Resources (HK) (Sell, +147%), Jones Energy (JONE) (Hold, +166%), Rex Energy (REXX) (Sell, +60%), Sanchez Energy (SN) (Hold, +93%), Ultra Petroleum (UPL) (Sell, +61%), andWhiting Petroleum (Hold, +103%), which have outperformed the E&P Index (+32%) over the same time period. Balance sheets and/or well level returns remain challenged for these companies despite improved oil prices. While we believe oil markets should re-balance over the next 12 to 15 months, the recent recovery to $40 could reverse during 2Q16 as bloated inventories continue to rise, new volumes from Iran pressure an oversupplied market, and a highly anticipated decline in non-OPEC supply (especially in the U.S.), is not as steep as expected. The risk of an oil price retracement, which would significantly pressure the recent out-performers, outweighs the upside in these stocks, in our view. However, we are raising our target prices on Buy ratedAnadarko Petroleum ($54 from $48), Concho Resources (CXO) ($120 from $109), Matador Resources (MTDR) ($22 from $21),Noble Energy (NBL) ($40 from $34), SM Energy (SM) ($22 from $15), Rice Energy ($14 from $12), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) ($155 from $135),Continental Resources ($32 from $28), and Parsley Energy (PE) ($24 from $23). We believe our Buy-rated stocks are better positioned to weather challenging oil markets.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018: Foresight Energy LP(FELP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

FORESIGHT ENERGY LP has experienced a steep decline in earnings per share in the most recent quarter in comparison to its performance from the same quarter a year ago. This company has reported somewhat volatile earnings recently. We feel it is likely to report a decline in earnings in the coming year. During the past fiscal year, FORESIGHT ENERGY LP increased its bottom line by earning $0.78 versus $0.08 in the prior year. For the next year, the market is expecting a contraction of 67.9% in earnings ($0.25 versus $0.78).

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We rate FORESIGHT ENERGY LP as a Sell with a ratings score of E+. This is based on a variety of negative investment measures, which should drive this stock to significantly underperform the majority of stocks that we rate. The company’s weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its generally high debt management risk, poor profit margins, generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself, deteriorating net income and feeble growth in its earnings per share.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

The change in net income from the same quarter one year ago has exceeded that of the Oil, Gas & Consumable Fuels industry average, but is less than that of the S&P 500. The net income has significantly decreased by 82.3% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $45.72 million to $8.07 million.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

Despite any intermediate fluctuations, we have only bad news to report on this stock’s performance over the last year: it has tumbled by 83.17%, worse than the S&P 500’s performance. Consistent with the plunge in the stock price, the company’s earnings per share are down 82.85% compared to the year-earlier quarter. Naturally, the overall market trend is bound to be a significant factor. However, in one sense, the stock’s sharp decline last year is a positive for future investors, making it cheaper (in proportion to its earnings over the past year) than most other stocks in its industry. But due to other concerns, we feel the stock is still not a good buy right now.

  • [By Joseph Griffin]

Foresight Energy (NYSE:FELP) released its quarterly earnings results on Tuesday. The energy company reported ($0.15) earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter, missing analysts’ consensus estimates of ($0.07) by ($0.08), reports. Foresight Energy had a negative net margin of 18.78% and a negative return on equity of 3.93%.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

After the recent distribution cut, Foresight’s distribution coverage is over 6.0x with much of the future cash flow dedicated to reducing leverage. It has over 80% of its coal sales priced for next year and its costs should improve as the low cost Hillsboro mine comes back into production early next year. It is also benefitting from cost synergies with the Murray operations. We believe Foresight’s new distribution level is sustainable. With its 15.5% yield, we feel FELP could be attractive to income seeking investors.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018: Newfield Exploration Company(NFX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Lear also sees strong “upside potential” forConcho Resources (CXO), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) and Newfield Exploration (NFX) as well performance improves in the Permian/STACK, and also writes positively on Devon Energy (DVN).

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The large cap E&Ps we cover raised ~ $6.5 billion of equity in 2015 and are likely to consider additional issuance in 2016. Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) raised $1.3 billion on January 5th and Hess Corp. (HES) raised $1.5 billion of equity/equity-linked earlier this month. We think highly leveraged companies such as Devon Energy,Encana andRange Resources (RRC) and companies with a large deficit (before asset sales), such asAnadarko Petroleum and Devon Energy, are most likely to consider raising equity. Additionally, we believe companies such as WPX Energy (WPX), Southwestern Energy (SWN), Marathon Oil, Continental Resources (CLR),Noble Energy and Newfield Exploration (NFX) could issue equity while several levered companies may be unwilling or unable to access equity markets. We do not think Apache, Canadian Natural Resource, EOG Resources (EOG), Occidental Petroleum orPioneer Natural Resources are likely to issue equity this year.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Wednesday was an up-and-down day for the stock market, which lost substantial ground early in the day only to climb back toward the unchanged mark by the end of the session. A slight rise for the Dow Jones Industrials led to yet another record-high close, and although other major market benchmarks weren’t quite as lofty, they nevertheless finished with only modest losses on the day. Generally favorable news and sentiment helped the market bounce back during the day, but some stocks still finished lower. Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX), Global Blood Therapeutics (NASDAQ:GBT), and Nautilus (NYSE:NLS) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Large Caps. Our E&P coverage is pricing in $61/bbl WTI and $3.30 gas, and with a lower crude forecast the group is looking less compelling. We argue names that continue to demonstrate resource improvement at the low-end of the cost curve, namely in the Permian and STACK remain attractive, such as Concho Resources (CXO), Devon Energy (DVN), Newfield Exploration (NFX) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). Noble (NBL) remains a compelling value, though has yet to commit to an accelerated US onshore drilling program.
