For years, the major credit card companies — American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS), Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA), and Visa Inc (NYSE:V) — have supported their own digital wallets with varying degrees of success. The problem is, none of them meaningfully appealed to the average consumer. After all, in my own physical wallet, I have one American Express card, one Mastercard, and one Visa. I have no desire to opt into three individual digital wallets to conveniently use the three cards when making online purchases, especially when PayPal’s platform allows me to enter all of my credit cards, across banks and brands, into its own platform.

Top 5 Undervalued Stocks For 2019

After a strong end to 2017, iRobot (NASDAQ:IRBT) stock is off to an equally strong start in 2018. But that strong start is hitting some turbulence, as IRBT stock is dropping sharply in late January alongside the rest of the market. We do not believe this pullback is anything more than a natural and healthy pullback in a still very attractive growth stock on a strong upward trend. We maintain our bullish outlook on holiday earnings, and believe the stock has plunged back into undervalued territory after flirting with fair value territory. Consequently, we believe this is a “buy the dip” situation.

IRBT data by YCharts

Since our last bullish update on IRBT stock, not much has changed. Yes, rates are going higher, and that does dilute the present value of “down the road” profits (considering IRBT is a 20%-plus growth narrative in a booming market, a big portion of this stock’s value comes from the present value of “down the road” profits). But outside of higher rates, there has been no material change to the company’s growth narrative.

Top 5 Undervalued Stocks For 2019: Summit Midstream Partners, LP(SMLP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Another possible opportunity for Kinder Morgan is partnering with other companies that need funding for projects they’re developing in the region. One example is Summit Midstream Partners’ (NYSE:SMLP) proposed Double E Pipeline project. Summit envisions it moving upwards of 1.0 BCF/D of gas from the Permian to a hub in Texas. The $400 million to $450 million project is too large for Summit to finance on its own, which is why it’s evaluating alternatives, including looking for financial partners. Meanwhile, Targa Resources recently secured another $500 million of Permian expansion projects, and now expects to invest more than $2.4 billion into the Basin over the next few years. While the company has secured funding for a large portion of that, it still needs more, and it could choose to bring on a partner like Kinder Morgan to provide it.

Lloyd Blankfein, one of Wall Street’s most powerful players, is reportedly preparing to step down from his perch at Goldman Sachs as soon as the end of the year.

Blankfein has led Goldman Sachs (GS) for the past dozen years, guiding the investment bank back to success after a near-death experience during the financial crisis.

The 63-year-old will be leaving on his own terms, The Wall Street Journal reported. Blankfein will probably retire ahead of the bank’s 150th anniversary in 2019, or early that year, the paper reported.

Goldman Sachs declined to comment. Investors took the report in stride. Shares were mostly unchanged from their prices prior to the news.

The Wall Street firm expects to name one of its co-presidents, Harvey Schwartz and David Solomon, to succeed Blankfein, the Journal reported.

Goldman Sachs has been grooming Schwartz and Solomon for the top job ever since former president Gary Cohn left the bank last year to become President Trump’s top economic adviser. Cohn announced his resignation from the White House this week amid a clash over trade policy.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Shares of Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) rallied 15% last month thanks to a bullish analyst note.

    So what

Seaspan’s stock bobbed around the flatline for most of April until an analyst at Deutsche Bank upgraded the containership leasing company from hold to buy toward the end of the month. What stood out was the $13 price target, which was 85% above the bank’s previous one of $7 a share. Driving that bullish view is the expectation that Seaspan’s ability to deleverage its balance sheet and increase the dividend would fuel substantial share price appreciation in the future.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Own Right Now: Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNLF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

About Venmo. I don’t think it’s the game changer that many in the PayPal investment community think it is. It’s growing for sure but for me it is yet unproven and is the one point where Apple Pay (NASDAQ:AAPL), Samsung Pay (OTC:SSNLF) and potentially Square (NYSE: SQ) can actually land a punch. $9.4 billion in transaction volume last quarter and making it available in around two million U.S. retailers are signs of a growing business, but whether it will be used for retail purchases by its user base remains to be seen. I could be surprised on the upside in the coming 3-6 quarters. But as long as the company isn’t revealing the number of its users I won’t be holding my breath and including this in the factors that can contribute to sustained growth.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Now, this removes one big uncertainty (actually management was pretty convinced they would settle on favorable terms), but there are a few other headwinds that also led them to lower guidance when presenting Q3 figures:

In the low end of the mobile market (imaging) they are experiencing increasing competition. They are dealing with this by concentrating on more sophisticated and integrated solutions and narrowing the strategic focus (this is already starting to pay off with design wins like the Huawei Mate 10). For now they expect imaging revenues to be at least $10M lower. The probability of recognizing revenue from Echo, a significant mobile customer for audio technologies, has progressively declined as well. Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) IP licensing is removed from the guidance as they are litigating the company for patent infringement. Management is convinced of a favorable outcome here as well (they embarked on extensive DD prior to filing), but unsure of the timing. Management believes at least $10M in licence revenues has been underreported, but likely resolution will shift this income to 2018. Roughly $5M in expected license revenue from Invensas Licensees will shift to 2018 Guidance excludes roughly $52M in cash receipts which the company can’t recognize as revenue under purchase accounting related to the DTS acquisition (see below for an explanation). This is why cash flow figures are much better than earnings figures.

These are all somewhat messy litigation and compliance issues, but at least the Broadcom issue has been settled and much of the rest is likely to shift to 2018. About the Purchase Accounting. From company PR:

Cirrus announced that the first product containing its new ANC chip last spring. In the most recent conference call, the company mentioned that it was in a new headset with a major OEM. A search looking for design breakdowns for Cirrus revealed two new products with Cirrus ANC inside. ABI Research reported finding the Cirrus ANC chip, 47L50C, inside replacing a chip from “Maxim MAX98730” The rest of the parts in the Studio 3 were the same as its predecessor Solo3. Beats increased the price on the Studio 3 by $50. ABI also found the 47L50C inside one of the new Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) products adding this statement, “Cirrus seems to be doing quite well in the ANC (Active noise cancellation) market as this is the second win we have seen (47L51b found in the Samsung ANC earbuds) in blooming ANC market.” There appear to be two new sets of earbuds from Samsung, a wired and a wireless. It is unclear to us which or perhaps both could have the new Cirrus chip inside. We know of at least three major brands with Cirrus ANC inside. The list continues to grow. We note we have yet to find a product with both parts, mics and codec. The four freshly washed E9s (ABBA) have eased the consist across the aligned switch onto the main with the semaphore straight up green-lighting the ANC Express and for those aboard, sensing the QUIET of the early morn.

Note also how cheap Western Digital’s stock is. Against analysts’ consensus EPS targets of $14.09 this year, according to Yahoo Finance, the company is currently trading at a P/E multiple of below 6x. Of course, this mirrors the valuation of other highly cyclical stocks like Ford (F). However, the strength of recent memory earnings and the commentary from industry players suggest that the cycle still has a long way to go. Samsung (OTC:SSNLF), in particular, noted after posting strong memory results that it’s focused on maximizing profits in its memory division rather than market share. This means that, unlike the last cycle, the major manufacturers could be showing a bit more restraint in production to keep prices and margins elevated. High pricing for memory modules, of course, is one of the major drivers behind Western Digital’s success over the past year.

I know this sounds to many of the readers who like to hate Apple for everything they do like shady behavior, but ask yourself this, where can you go to replace a Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) or an HTC battery? The fact of the matter is that Apple is offering a useful service that will allow users to prolong the use of their existing phone and in the process it is getting an extra opportunity to market to this consumer.

Top 5 High Tech Stocks To Invest In 2019

There’s a certain awkwardness to the Federal Reserve’s benchmark interest rate.

Unlike most other major central banks, the Fed doesn’t use a simple, single rate but rather sets its target as a range. And so when policy makers raise borrowing costs — as they did in March — it can read like a jumble of numbers. In last month’s case, the rate went from a minimum of 1.25 percent and a maximum of 1.5 percent to a minimum of 1.5 percent and maximum of 1.75 percent.

The current system was created during the depths of the financial crisis a decade ago. Its adoption allowed the Fed to avoid cutting the benchmark rate all the way to zero, which officials saw as potentially dangerous. (They initially settled on a range of zero to 0.25 percent.) And then, when they began lifting borrowing costs years later, it made sense to stick with the range because there were new and unknown variables at work and they weren’t sure how precisely they could control the rate.

Top 5 Logistics Stocks To Own For 2016

Ladenburg Thalmann’s Adolfo Rueda explains why he’s feeling bullish about shares of Lululemon Athletica (LULU):

We highlight the daily chart for LULU and rate the stock Outperform. We would add/buy at current levels as well as on slight weakness. We are using a technical target of $72.00 while using a stop of $58.75.

LULU reclaimed its slowly deteriorating moving average in January and February. LULU tested and bounced off its improving short-term moving average twice so far in 2016. LULU is currently testing its improving short-term moving average again. The stock gapped up in late March and then pulled back filling in the gap. We believe the upside gap increases the probabilities to contain downside pressure. LULU has been able to stabilize above the short dashed black horizontal line. We believe the probabilities are favorable for LULU to trend higher if LULU can stabilize above the long dashed black horizontal line. Momentum indicators are slowly improving.

Google has updated its installation policies for AdWords affiliates such as browser toolbar makers which became active for most companies early this year. This change led to a number of articles on Seeking Alpha making a short case for AVG and Perion as well as some rebuttals from me and other authors. The biggest flaw in the "short case" was a failure to recognize that Google is not the only game in town. While Google commands a dominant 68% search market share, Bing (MSFT) with 18% and Yahoo (YHOO) with 11% are desperate to keep pace and do not impose equally onerous terms on its affiliates. Conduit dumped Google for Bing almost three years ago for US users. I speculate that the new company will become a predominantly Bing shop (Yahoo also runs on Bing with revenue sharing) removing remaining headwinds from Google policy changes, which put a dent in Perion’s and Conduit’s revenue this year. If Perion switches to Conduit’s search page and toolbar, the switch to Bing for US users would become immediate and automatic.

UBS analyst Michael Binetti and team warn investors not to get too excited about Urban Outfitters’ (URBN) same-store-sales surprise:

    Reuters

1Q SSS Trending +LSDbut Noisy; Raising Our 1Q SSS Estimate Slightly: We’re raising our 1Q SSS to flat from -1% previously. In its FY16 (Jan-16 end) 10K filing on 3/31,Urban Outfitters reported its 1Q17 (Jan-17 end) SSS are trending +LSD. We believe trends are at the low end of +LSD (likely +1%)and we estimate that the Feb+Mar period gets a +1-1.5pp lift from an extra day vs LY (Unlike most other specialty retailers that report 4-5-4 week quarters,Urban Outfitters is based on a true calendar monthso Leap Yr is incremental). On our math,Urban Outfitters’ underlying trend is likely close to flat in Feb+Mar. April should be a lower volume month in the qtr, but visibility into April trends for the industry is low. An Easter shift into March (vs Easter in April last year) is a headwind to Apriland April weather could be unfavorable YOY (based on comments from our 3/29 weather expert conference call). That said, based on our conversation with the comp any we believe that compares should ease in the back half of April, which could offset other headwinds.

Like Express, Urban Outfitters is slowly expanding its store base. Also like Express, Urban Outfitters saw an impressive earnings improvement in the second quarter. Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Smith]

Although we were not surprised by the move yesterday we did not take an overly aggressive stance in positioning the portfolio to benefit from the Fed not tapering. We were long, but we did not initiate any trades solely for the purpose to benefit from the announcement. We are more interested in the long-term wealth building of portfolios right now and as such believe that readers should look to our recent winners that had pullbacks yesterday as buying opportunities. Specifically, we like Ameritrade (AMTD), Charles Schwab (SCHW) and MetLife (MET) which all saw pullbacks ranging from 2.5% to a bit over 5.5% in yesterday’s session. We highlighted the discount brokers as a sector to watch right before the latest takeoff and our belief is that although rates remain unchanged the brokerage business will continue to perform strongly. The next big move up will be as rates rise, but even if one has to wait for this move it will be well worth it for one’s portfolio.
