Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) (+98%, +4.21%, +14%, +0.44%), the U.S. and Macau gaming company, was the largest contributor to the Fund’s 2017 performance with strong earnings growth in Macau and Las Vegas. Industry gross gaming revenues (GGR) in Macau accelerated in the second half of 2017 well beyond full year GGR growth expectations. With major infrastructure projects moving closer to completion, mass visits and spending increasing, and VIPs returning, concerns about potential over-supply from significant capacity additions in Macau turned into confidence that additional hotel and gaming properties will be well absorbed by the market. Steve Wynn continued to create future value with the Boston resort expected to open in 2019, new development around the Las Vegas golf course, and the chance to pursue casino development in Japan. After the stock more than tripled from its lows two years ago and moved closer to our assessment of the company’s value, we reduced the Fund’s position.

TripAdvisor’s (NASDAQ:TRIP) latest quarterly report was a tale of two segments —  hotel and nonhotel — and the stories coming out of them are very different. But the company faces intense competition on many fronts, and it’s not entirely clear if its strengths will compensate for its weaknesses. For Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), though, the past few months have all been about one story: Certain rivals are eating its lunch, and analysts could tell. So when it revealed a revenue miss, weak guidance, and layoffs, the stock price recovery that followed only makes sense in the context that it came off a 52-week low.

Stocks to Watch Today: TGT, CRM, FB
This morning, shares of Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) popped nearly 6% after a strong Q4 earnings report. The company reported earnings per share of $1.53 on total revenue of $22.98 billion. Wall Street expected $1.52 per share on sales of $22.91 billion. The firm reported very strong online sales (up 25%) and a 5.3% jump in same-store sales. Analysts had expected a 4.5% increase in same-store sales. The report is the latest sign that Target has emerged as a formidable competitor to Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT). Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) is under fire again due to security concerns around its sign-in features. The company has not allowed users to opt out of the key feature that lets users look up others by phone number and e-mail address. Many people have added their phone numbers in the past thinking it would only be used for two-factor authentication and security. Critics argue this is the latest episode of Facebook compromising user information. Shares of Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM) are in focus as the cloud computing giant plans to report earnings after the bell Tuesday. CRM stock is already up 20% so far this year. And many analysts expect the firm to report earnings per share of $0.55 on top of $3.56 billion in revenue. Yesterday, Salesforce co-CEO Marc Benioff predicted that $30 billion in annual revenue for the cloud computing giant is “right around the corner.” Look for earnings reports from AeroVironment Inc. Best Financial Stocks To Own For 2019

Bank stocks have been soaring over the last month. The banking sector of the S&P 500 is up double digits in that time. And while most analysts are expecting a strong earnings season coming up, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) poured some cold water on that enthusiasm this week.

But here’s the thing: One of those banks, Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C), just rose 14.3% in a four-week period, leaving Money Morning Options Trading Specialist Tom Gentile to wonder, “how much better can they do?”

Tom joined CNBC World to answer that question and tell us what to expect from the rest of the big bank stocks.

For years, the major credit card companies — American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS), Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA), and Visa Inc (NYSE:V) — have supported their own digital wallets with varying degrees of success. The problem is, none of them meaningfully appealed to the average consumer. After all, in my own physical wallet, I have one American Express card, one Mastercard, and one Visa. I have no desire to opt into three individual digital wallets to conveniently use the three cards when making online purchases, especially when PayPal’s platform allows me to enter all of my credit cards, across banks and brands, into its own platform.

Hot Safest Stocks To Watch For 2018

In a junior sector that has become quite a stock-picker’s market over the past nine months, I find some of the safest and lowest risk opportunities come when a company is undergoing a major change. Atlantic Gold (OTCPK:SPVEF) was one such idea I highlighted last year, as the company was set to transform itself into Canada’s newest junior gold producer. The stock has since moved from US$0.60 to US$1.40 and the re-rating I expect has nearly come to fruition. A company with a similar profile that I’ve had my eye on was Harte Gold (OTCPK:HRTFF), but the stock got well ahead of itself earlier this year and I exited my position. Since that time the stock has spent the last six months consolidating and finally looks it may be ready to resume the new uptrend it began earlier this year.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market finished lower on Friday, with triple-digit losses for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and modest declines of as much as half a percent for other major benchmarks. A mix of economic and political news kept investors on their toes to end the week, as fears of a possible attack on Syria watered down some of the potential upside that could have stemmed from solid earnings results from the banking sector during the morning. Even though many investors have pretty positive expectations going into earnings season, some companies suffered from disappointing news that sent their shares lower. Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET), Dropbox (NASDAQ:DBX), and MBIA (NYSE:MBI) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

Top 10 Medical Stocks For 2018: Dillard's, Inc.(DDS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

Some reasons for my bearishness on retail stocks:

Higher Energy Prices. Oil prices have rallied dramatically and back to 2014 levels, rising from about $35 a barrel in early 2016 to around $67 Thursday. That’s bad news for U.S. retailers, as rising oil prices historically squeeze consumer disposable incomes. That’s one reason why I’ve been consistently raising my short exposure to retail and plan to continue doing so. Shaky Same-Store Sales Growth. Recent improvements to same-store sales at Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) , Urban Outfitters (URBN) , Dillard’s (DDS) , Gap Inc. (GPS) and Macy’s (M) come against downgraded expectations, and might not be sustainable anyway. No Deal for Nordstrom (JWN) . The Nordstrom family has apparently abandoned plans to take its namesake company private. I had expressed concerns that this would happen. Higher Interest Rates. A rise in the London Inter-Bank Offered Rate (LIBOR) has recently accelerated. That’s bad news for retailers, as many variable-rate consumer debts (particularly mortgages) key off of the LIBOR. This will likely put a damper on mortgage refinancings — something that many see as an important ingredient for personal-consumption expenditures.

The 10-year Treasury rate fell back under 3% today, as markets continue to eye interest rates and chatter about the U.S. Federal Reserve’s goal to rein in inflation. The rate check comes as the U.S. Commerce Department prepares to release an update on Q1 GDP. Markets expect that GDP will decline to 2.0%That figure would be a big decline from the 2.9% that the Commerce Department reported for the fourth quarter of 2017.
Crude oil prices are sliding as a slew of geopolitical stories weigh on trader sentiment. Yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron said he anticipates that U.S. President Donald Trump will restore sanctions on the Iranian government. Trump is also widely expected to pull out of the Iranian Nuclear Deal. While that would be bullish for prices, markets are paying more attention to rising U.S. production and news that Venezuela is cutting supply at a time that demand is soaring.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Own For 2019

Shares of Deere (DE) have jumped nearly 15% today after the maker of agriculture machinery beat earnings forecasts and announced cost cuts. The announcement led to one of my favorite ratings changes of all time: S&P Global Market Intelligence’s Jim Corridore upgraded Deere to Sell from Strong Sell:

Reuters

We raise our 12-month target price to $80 from $70, 20X our FY 17 (Oct.) EPS estimate of $4.00 (unchanged today), well above Deere’s ten year average and above peers. We raise our FY 16 EPS estimate to $4.51 from $4.11 after Deere July-Qtr. EPS of $1.55 vs. $1.53 beat our $1.11 estimate. Revenues were worse than we expected, but Deere doing a great job cutting costs. EPS comparisons benefited from a 5.5% lower diluted share count. With end market conditions likely to remain unfavorable into calendar 2017, and given high valuation relative to peers and historic norms we remain negative.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Own For 2019: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.(WMT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Douglas A. McIntyre]

Lord & Taylor will start to sell items on Walmart Inc.’s (NYSE: WMT) website. According to the world’s largest retailer:

Walmart.com and Lord & Taylor today announced that the companies will begin to roll out the new Lord & Taylor flagship store on Walmart.com in the coming weeks. The flagship, which will debut with more than 125 brands, including Tommy Bahama, Vince Camuto, Miss Selfridge, La La Anthony, Lucky Brand, H Halston and Effy, will be part of Walmart.coms broader fashion destination.

  • [By Elizabeth Balboa]

Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT) announced last week it’s pursuing a 77-percent stake in the Indian e-commerce company Flipkart.

The resulting exposure to the Indian market would heighten global competition with Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) — a steady presence in southern Asia.

  • [By ]

Ten months have passed since Action Alerts PLUS holding Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) rocked the retail market with the announcement of its $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods Market. Within that time, the e-commerce giant hijacked the industry, pushing grocery giants off their thrones with its ubiquitous Whole Foods delivery service. Walmart Inc. (WMT) , struggling with e-commerce, is slowly rolling back grocery offerings, instead focusing on everyday products. Kroger Co. (KR) has all but withered. Even the warehouse retailers are struggling to match Amazon’s sheer dominance in produce and perishable foods.

  • [By Adam Levy]

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) benefited from that rule for a long time, but it eventually expanded its fulfillment center network to the point where it now collects sales tax in every state. Requiring other online retailers to collect sales tax — including third-party sellers on marketplaces like Amazon’s, eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), or even Walmart’s (NYSE:WMT) website — would actually put Amazon back on equal footing with its biggest competition. What’s more, it could make smaller retailers more reliant on Amazon or other services to provide tax collection services, putting them at a further disadvantage.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Own For 2019: Sanofi(SNY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Todd Campbell]

When a brand new class of cholesterol-lowering drugs called PCSK9 inhibitors won Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2015, it was heralded as the biggest advance in battling heart disease since the invention of statins. The launch of PCSK9 inhibitors was accompanied by billion-dollar-plus predictions for sales. However, revenue has fallen far shy of blockbuster status, leaving drugmakers Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN), Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:REGN), and Sanofi SA (NYSE:SNY) in the lurch.

  • [By Cory Renauer]

Amgen’s next-generation cholesterol drug, Repatha has finally started marching upwards in recent quarters, but it could stall out in the quarters ahead. One of America’s largest pharmacy benefits managers recently dropped Repathain favor of a rival therapy from Regeneron (NASDAQ:REGN) andSanofi (NYSE:SNY). That puts a lot of strain on the only other younger products generating significant sales growth right now.

  • [By Cory Renauer]

Sanofi (NYSE:SNY) andRegeneron (NASDAQ:REGN) launched a cholesterol-lowering treatment in 2015 that could be a big problem for bempedoic acid, even if its safety profile remains intact. Praluent is a remarkable drug that can turn stubborn liver cells into cholesterol sponges, but at an initial list price of around $14,000 per year, its launch was a huge disappointment.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Own For 2019: Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc.(RIGL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Thursday ended in the red for most major benchmarks on Wall Street, with the Dow trading down by triple digits at times before climbing back toward the close. After having bounced back sharply in recent days, stocks seemed to lose upward momentum, and interest rate fears returned to the market. The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond once again moved above the 2.9% mark, and shorter-term Treasurys had yields reach levels they haven’t seen in years. Yet even though the overall market was ready to take a break, some companies still enjoyed good news that lifted their shares. Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:BK), Snap-on (NYSE:SNA), and Rigel Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:RIGL) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

We could be in for a bumpy ride.

Like mosttravelers, I always hate hearing those words when I’m on an airplane. Thankfully, I’m not sitting on a jet about to hit turbulence right now. But I am invested heavily in the stock market. And not only might we be in for a bumpy ride ahead, it’s already been turbulent so far in 2018.

However, I think the response passengerstake on an airplane that’s about to encounter a rough patch is the right approach for investors: Fasten your seat belts, sit back, and wait. That’s exactly what I plan to do, especially with three of my favorite growth stocks — Align Technology (NASDAQ:ALGN), Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), and NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA). Here’s why I’m holding onto these stocks no matter how bumpy the market gets.

Align Technology

Align Technology ranked as the top-performing stock in the S&P 500 in 2017. And Align didn’t join the S&P 500 untilnearly halfway through the year. However, Align stock hasn’t been immune to overall market gyrations so far in 2018. The orthodontic-device maker especially took a hit after a Wall Street analyst predicted that its growth would slow.

Oil prices are at levels we haven’t seen in years. U.S. crude topped $70 for the first since 2014, as U.S. President Donald Trump appeared increasingly likely to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal and reinforce sanctions on Tehran. In addition, OPEC has announced plans to bolster prices and cap production. For oil investors, Money MorningGlobal Energy Strategist Dr. Kent Moors says it’s time to buckle up. According to Moors, revoking the Iran deal would cause “price chaos” around the globe. And that’s right as driving season starts in the United States. Here’s more on the coming chaos for oil. In deal news, Blackstone Group (NYSE: BX) announced it will purchase Gramercy Property Trust (NYSE: GPT) for $7.6 billion in cash. Grammercy manages commercial real estate. While this may seem like a boring deal, Blackstone is buying a business that churns out cold hard cash for its investors. We want to keep this deal on your radar, because there are many other deals like this coming down the pipeline. We’re going to be discussing one of the best real estate opportunities available very soon – so keep an eye out for updates.

Shareholders of Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) cheered statements made by Warren Buffett over the weekend. The Oracle of Omaha said he messed up by not investing in Amazon and Alphabet Inc. I made the mistake in not being able to come to a conclusion where I really felt that at the present prices that the prospects were far better than the prices indicated.” Buffett says he now has a “very, very, very high opinion” of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. The Oracle believes that Bezos has created something that is “close to a miracle.” Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) added another 0.6% Monday, to reach $185.00 per share – a new 52-week high. Value of Real Estate Obscured by Poor Disclosure

Casey’s General Stores (NASDAQ:CASY) operates 1,931 stores across the US. Despite the size of its real estate portfolio, disclosure on its real estate has been poor. Which only serves to muddy the perception of the firm’s value. The chart above, essentially encapsulates all the information the firm provides.

Methodology

I used loopnet’s sales comps for gas stations and convenience stores by state to arrive at an average selling price per square foot. The website provides sales data for commercial real estate that can be sliced by sub-category, convenience stores, and by state and city. The figure below, provides a snapshot of some of the data the website provides. I gathered a large sample size for each state to ensure that it was representative of the population.

Top 5 Value Stocks For 2018: Mitsubishi Corporation (MSBHY)

Automotive is moving well, up 14% y/y driven by HD Radio tech. The latter is included in an A list of important models, including Tesla Model 3, the Mitsubishi (OTCPK:MSBHY) Mirage and the Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) Rogue. Their connected radio solution is also coming along nicely.

Japanese trading company Itochu (OTCPK:ITOCY) has a tough act to follow – its own meaningful improvement over the past five years. The company was more willing than most of its Japanese trading peers to deemphasize commodity/resource businesses, and it moved fairly quickly here, building up non-resource businesses like its food, machinery, and finance operations. Those moves have led to better ROE and cash flow margin performance versus its peers, and Itochu shares have done well relative to peers like Mitsui (OTCPK:MITSY), Mitsubishi (OTCPK:MSBHY), Marubeni (OTCPK:MARUY), and Sumitomo (OTCPK:SSUMY) over that time.

Top 5 Low Price Stocks To Own Right Now

Either low-income Americans became rich this Black Friday, or Wal-Mart’s (NYSE:WMT) marketers do not know what they are doing.

For years, $133,653 Cartier watches and expensive jewelry were sold in upper scale stores, where high income Americans prefer to shop on Black Friday.

This year, Cartier watches are being sold on the Walmart.com site.

But who will buy them? Will high income Americans trade the upscale store for Wal-Mart’s site? That sounds very unlikely to me. Shopping for luxury items is usually more about the experience of shopping rather than about price.

What about Wal-Mart’s low-income shoppers? That’s unlikely, too, as they cannot afford items that sell at a hefty multiple of their annual income. Besides, some of Wal-Mart’s shoppers do not even use credit cards, so how can they purchase $133,653 watches on-line?

For more than three decades, Wal-Mart ruled the US retailing industry. Its large stores and everyday low prices were too much for smaller neighborhood stores and supermarkets. Result? They went out of business shortly after Wal-Mart invaded their turf.
