Relax

Last week, investor notes from Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Bank of America expressed concerns over company valuations at unprecedented extremes, a seven month long stock rally, softening economic data, and the Federal Reserve’s plan to taper stimulus. Taken together, it all looks like a game of Jenga that’s about to be over.

Top 5 Bank Stocks To Watch For 2022

Morgan Stanleys optimistic view of the economy isnt keeping it from warning about a looming correction in the U.S. stock market.

The issue is that the markets are priced for perfection and vulnerable, especially since there hasnt been a correction greater than 10% since the March 2020 low, said Lisa Shalett, chief investment officer of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, in a note Tuesday. The banks global investment committee expects a stock-market pullback of 10% to 15% before the end of the year, she wrote.

The strength of major U.S. equity indexes during August and the first few days of September, pushing to yet more daily and consecutive new highs in the face of concerning developments, is no longer constructive in the spirit of climbing a wall of worry, said Shalett. Consider taking profits in index funds, she said, as stock benchmarks have dismissed resurgent COVID-19 hospitalizations, plummeting consumer confidence, higher interest rates and significant geopolitical shifts.

Top 5 Bank Stocks To Invest In 2021

I’ve been renovating my house for far too long now, and when I bumped into my neighbor the other morning I apologized for the incessant and seemingly endless noise from construction. “Not to worry” he jovially exclaimed. “You’re increasing the value of all our houses!” Ahh… the beauty of nice neighbors. Such is the case with Toronto, Ontario based Alexandria Minerals Corp (OTC: ALXDF, CNDX: AZX.V). The junior mining company with strategic properties in the world-class mining districts of Val dOr, Quebec, Red Lake, Ontario and Snow Lake-Flin Flon, Manitoba, is particularly focused on drill sites in their the prolific, gold-producing Cadillac Break properties.

A cursory view of ALXDF’s corporate presentation shows a map of their exploration and mining projects in the Val d’Or, outlined by their property boundary and highlighting certain areas of exploration in Zone 2 and Zone 4. The pink sections represent identified areas of gold mineralization. If you look closely, you will see a small area in the upper left quadrant marked as the Triangle Zone.

Uber unveiled its IPO on Thursday with a stunning warning to investors: It may never be a profitable company. Although the ride sharing app has 91 million customers and values itself at up to $100 billion, the company has been embroiled in multiple scandals and has struggled to retain those customers in an increasingly competitive environment. Concerns about Uber’s massive valuation has hurt its rival Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ: LYFT), which went public on March 29. Shares of Lyft are trading just above $61, well below the IPO price of $72. Oil prices are continuing their impressive run, the best in three years. WTI crude is flat this morning at $64.52 per barrel, while Brent crude is sitting at $71.38. Money Morning Global Energy Strategist Dr. Kent Moors says that oil prices will rocket even higher from here. And if you want to make real money, you need to do this now.

The thing is, boys can’t fly. No matter how much they believe.

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda may not say that on Wednesday, when he speaks at an annual BOJ conference in Tokyo. But he’s been forced to acknowledge it, at least implicitly, since famously invoking Peter Pan in a speech at the same event three years ago.

“I trust that many of you are familiar with the story of Peter Pan, in which it says, ‘The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it,’" Kuroda told the gathering on June 4, 2015. "Yes, what we need is a positive attitude and conviction.”

Kuroda will host this year’s conference, whose theme is "central banking in a changing world.” Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, will deliver the keynote speech.

“It would be so out of place if Kuroda made the Peter Pan speech today,” said Masamichi Adachi, a senior economist at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and a former BOJ official. “The BOJ has learned that trying to influence expectations doesn’t really work. In Japan, it seems it doesn’t work unless everyone believes in inflation.”

Top 5 Bank Stocks For 2019: Wells Fargo & Company(WFC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Douglas A. McIntyre]

U.S. sanctions of Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) may last longer than expected. According to The Wall Street Journal:

Wells Fargo & Co. will remain constrained by a regulator-imposed limit on growth for longer than expected, its chief executive said Thursday, as the bank continues to address the ramifications of risk-management failures.

  • [By Sean Williams]

Another brand-name stock that found itself on the chopping block during the second quarter was embattled money-center bank Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). In particular, the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, wound up selling almost 4.5 million shares of Wells Fargo, while Leon Cooperman’s Omega Advisors sold its entire position, which amounted to 412,500 shares. Andreas Halvorsen of Viking Global came in with the exclamation point: the liquidation of its 12.8 million share position in the second quarter.

  • [By Motley Fool Staff]

As far as positive surprises go, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) was probably the biggest positive surprise. I probably don’t have to tell most listeners, Wells Fargo hasn’t had the best couple of years, when it comes to their fake accounts scandal, the fallout from that, the other mini scandals along the way, and just recently, their punishment by the same Federal Reserve that says they’re not allowed to grow until they improve. They actually got the approval to buy back more than twice the amount of stock that they did last year. One, that says a lot about how well-capitalized they are. Two, it also says a lot that their management’s willing to do that, that they think that their stock is at such a compelling bargain right now that they’re willing to spend over $25 billion on buybacks alone.

  • [By Motley Fool Staff]

In the latest chapter of the Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) saga, the bank has agreed to a $1 billion penalty from the CFPB — the largest penalty ever levied by the agency. In this clip, host Michael Douglass and Fool.com contributor Matt Frankel discuss what this means to investors.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Buffett also stuck by his long-term commitment to Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) which now amounts to about 10% of the bank’s outstanding stock. He almost seemed to excuse the fake account scandal with a comment that what happened at Wells Fargo could have happened to any bank. The scandal was the result of heavy corporate pressure on branch managers to increase sales. As a result, said Buffett, “Wells Fargo is a company that proved the efficacy of incentives and it’s just that they had the wrong incentives.”

Top 5 Bank Stocks To Buy For 2019: Wells Fargo & Company(WFC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

Men led Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) into the biggest corporate debacle of the U.S. bank’s 166-year history. Now, women are taking over.

Over the past two years, the San Francisco-based bank has been pressured by regulators and shareholders to overhaul its board of directors following a series of scandals that have collectively cost the bank at least $1.6 billion, sending its stock price plunging.

  • [By ]

Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) hasn’t had a shortage of scandals and embarrassment over the past few years. It’s resulted in management changes, $1 billion fees and punishments from the Federal Reserve.

  • [By ]

Citigroup (C) , Wells Fargo (WFC) , and Bank of America (BAC) all closed in the green on Tuesday, but none in significantly grand fashion. I am not touching Wells Fargo at this time. They can prove themselves first. I remain long Citigroup, JP Morgan (JPM) , and Goldman Sachs (GS) . Citigroup based on valuation, and on the firm’s stated intent to repurchase $20B worth of shares over a couple of years, and JP Morgan basically because of their solid balance sheet, and broad global exposure. Both of these firms should benefit not only from deregulation, but from the Fed’s stress test results next month.
