Wall Street wants&a;nbsp;more stimulus from China. More money from the government is a backstop to equities, so why not? Sadly, judging by this week&a;rsquo;s &a;ldquo;two-sessions&a;rdquo; meeting in Beijing, they are not going to get what&a;nbsp;the Chinese government used to give.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In 2021: Discover Financial Services(DFS)

Discover Financial Services, a bank holding company, offers direct banking and payment services in the United States. It operates in two segments, Direct Banking and Payment Services. The Direct Banking segment offers Discover card-branded credit cards to individuals and small businesses that are accepted on the Discover Network. This segment also provides other consumer banking products and services, including personal loans, student loans, and prepaid cards, as well as other consumer lending and deposit products, such as certificates of deposit, money market accounts, online savings accounts, and individual retirement account. The Payment Services segment operates the PULSE network, an automated teller machine, debit, and electronic funds transfer network; the Diners Club International network, a global payments network; and third-party issuing business, which includes credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued on the Discover Network by third parties. The company was found ed in 1986 and is based in Riverwoods, Illinois.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Motley Fool Staff]

Generally speaking, when a retailer decides not to accept a certain type of credit card because of high interchange fees, American Express (NYSE:AXP) or Discover (NYSE:DFS) are the most likely to go. However, in a surprise move, some Kroger-owned(NYSE:KR)stores are no longer accepting Visa (NYSE:V) for that exact reason.

  • [By Matthew Frankel, CFP]

In this week’s episode of Industry Focus: Financials, host Jason Moser and Motley Fool contributor Matt Frankel look over the biggest news in the sector this week. Grocery giant Kroger (NYSE:KR)put some pressure on Visa (NYSE:V)to lower its fees in much the same way that so many retailers used to refuse AmEx (NYSE:AXP)cards. What does this mean for the future of fintech companies like Visa, Discover(NYSE:DFS), and MasterCard(NYSE:MA)? Green Dot(NYSE:GDOT) and Square (NYSE:SQ)reported earnings, and the market seems to be missing the bright long-term future for both. MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI)saw new highs as its changing business model delivers even more potential. And, as always, the hosts share some stocks on their radar.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The credit card industry has come a long way over the long run, and both Mastercard (NYSE:MA) and Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) have survived to become major players in the payments space. Mastercard’s payment network spans the globe, with billions of cards issued and the company participating fully in international growth. Discover has a more limited audience, but it also profits from the interest and fees it collects by offering its own cards — even though that also introduces an additional risk to its business model.

  • [By Matthew Cochrane]

The past year was a rough one for Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) shareholders. In 2018, Discover’s stock price fell 23% and, though it has made up some of those losses this year, it is still well off its all-time high set early last year. Most frustrating for Discover shareholders, perhaps, is that the company performed fairly well throughout this period, even as its stock suffered. When Discover released its 2018 fourth-quarter earnings late last month, investors might have breathed a sigh of relief just because its shares didn’t immediately drop afterward.

Think of the patience that Warren Buffett has. Over his lifetime, the Oracle of Omaha has seen his fair share of market plunges and losses. When Kraft-Heinz (Nasdaq: KHC) tanked in late February, for example, his company, Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK), lost about $4.3 billion… in a single day. Yet, Buffett remains steadfast in his investments. He knows that when he purchases a wonderful company, he can hold onto it “forever.” He’s clearly laid out his investment philosophy in his shareholder letters… buy great companies at fair prices and let compounding (and American ingenuity) go to work for you.

Case in point: Kraft Heinz (Nasdaq: KHC). This consumer-staple company has turned out to be anything but safe and steady.

You’ve likely heard by now that shares of the world’s fifth-largest food-and-drinks company lost 27% in a single session on Friday, February 22. And Kraft halved its dividend, too. A whopping $15.4 billion write-down of its acquisitions of Kraft and Oscar Mayer was just part of the bad news; the company also disclosed a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation of its procurement accounting practices.

Three Stocks to Watch Today: TSLA, PFE, AAPL
Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA) will likely generate a lot of buzz on Monday. Three days ago, company CEO Elon Musk announced that Tesla would remain a publicly traded firm. The statement comes just weeks after Musk tweeted that he had secured investment to take the company private at $420 per share. That tweet spurred an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a lawsuit by short sellers of Tesla stock. TSLA shares were off 3% this morning. All eyes today are on Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) stock. The drug giant is poised to release the results of its phase 3 study for its drug Tafamidis. The specialty drug targets a heart disease known as transthyretin cardiomyopathy. Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) hit a historic milestone on Aug. 2. The tech giant’s market capitalization topped $1 trillion, making it the first firm to ever hit that value. The company continues to churn profits as more firms tap into its product pipeline. AAPL stock predictionsare a dime a dozen, but the fact is that this stock remains a bargain because of its price/earnings ratio. We explain why AAPL stock is still a bargain. These systems consist of structural framing, secondary structural members (purlins and girts) and metal roof and wall systems or conventional wall materials manufactured by others, such as masonry and concrete tilt-up panels. Engineered building systems consist of three systems: Primary structural framing, Secondary structural framing and Metal roof and wall systems.

Primary structural framing, fabricated from heavy-gauge plate steel, supports the secondary structural framing, roof, walls and all externally applied loads. Through the primary framing, the force of all applied loads is structurally transferred to the foundation. Secondary structural framing is designed to the primary structural framing and transfer applied loads from the roof and walls to the primary structural framing. Secondary structural framing consists of gauge, roll-formed steel components called purlins and girts. Metal roof and wall systems not only lock out the weather but may also contribute to the structural integrity of the overall building system. Roof and wall panels are fabricated from light-gauge, roll-formed steel in many architectural configurations. Accessory components complete the engineered building system. These components include doors, windows, specialty trims, gutters and interior partitions. The Company operates eight facilities for manufacturing and distributing engineered building systems throughout the United States and Monterrey, Mexico.

In addition to slashing its global growth forecast, the IMF also cut expectations for the economies of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, and Turkey. Emerging economies are facing higher capital outflows, rising interest rates, and increased debt pressures. The ongoing rise of the U.S. dollar has raised the borrowing costs of emerging markets as their currencies depreciated against the greenback. The IMF also had said America’s international trade policies could slow global growth by an additional 0.8% in 2020. Italian populists are raising red flags over the new coalition government’s 2019 budget and expected deficit targets. The government has said that it will target a 2.4% GDP deficit next year, followed by declines to 2.1% and 1.8% in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Italian bonds surged to their highest levels since 2014. U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to fulfill a campaign promise to eliminate a ban on ethanol blending during summer driving season. The Top Stock Market Stories for Monday
Tariffs are overshadowing the start of earnings season. This week, a variety of Wall Street banks, consumer goods, and airline companies report for the previous quarter. While profits are expected to remain strong, the outlook for the rest of the year is expected to take into account the impact of tariffs on global trade. This is likely to weigh on investor sentiment. According to a report from real estate giant REIS Inc., mall vacancies have hit a six-year high at 8.6% last quarter. The fall of brick-and-mortar stores has been fueled by the rise of Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN), which continues to see its stock surge to new highs. It’s not too late to get in on Amazon at a fraction of the cost of today’s shares. We’ll show you how… right here. Speaking of Amazon, the e-commerce giant recently made a big splash in the pharmacy benefits business after its purchase of online benefits provider PillPack. This purchase has many analysts convinced that Amazon is about to do to pharmacies what it has done to malls over the last decade. And while Amazon is going to be a major player in the drug-delivery business in the future, there is one stock that is going to stave off any further attack from Amazon and the delivery business. Best of all, this stock has an incredible VQScore, and it’s trading at a huge discount.

Gold futures on Friday logged a daily and weekly advance on the back of U.S.-China trade-war jitters, which flared up late Thursday and roiled global stocks, driving investors into assets perceived as havens.

A mostly lackluster U.S. employment reading for the March, which nicked the dollar index and buttressed already deep losses for stocks, also helped lift gold.

The White House said in a statement after the market close Thursday that President Donald Trump asked the U.S. Trade Representative to consider an extra $100 billion in Chinese goods to face tariffs and to identify the products that could be targeted.

Tuesday was down day on Wall Street, with major benchmarks losing a quarter percent or more. Market participants spent a lot of time watching the geopolitical situation, where a planned meeting between leaders of North Korea and the U.S. ran into possible hurdles. Yet there wasn’t a really big response in some of the financial markets, with oil staying close to the $72-per-barrel mark and 10-year Treasury yields remaining above 3%. Some individual companies had good news that sent their shares higher, however. Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), Eldorado Gold (NYSE:EGO), and America’s Car-Mart (NASDAQ:CRMT) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

Overall, our Game-Changing Stocks portfolio has had a good run this year. Our closed positions for 2017 have, on average, returned 28.5% — a much stronger result than what we’ve seen from the Russell 2000 index or from the PowerShares S&P Small Cap Information Technology Portfolio ETF (Nasdaq: PSCT), which returned 13% and 11% year-to-date, respectively. It’s not a fair comparison, of course, because our closed positions all have different time frames, but it does stress the strong promise of game-changing stocks.

Top 5 Heal Care Stocks To Own For 2018

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday the talk of the town was OPEC was not going to come to an agreement on production cuts. Oil was trading off up to 4% as both CNBC and Bloomberg had analyst come on set renewing bearish calls with some saying oil would trade back into the $20s.

Oil stocks sold off trapping emboldened shorts, twelve hours later and an agreement to cut 1.2M barrels a day. While the agreement means next to nothing, it has a psychological effect that is powerful.

Investors woke up this morning to oil trading up 7% from down nearly 4% yesterday. That is an 11% swing and a boon to US shale drillers. Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) is my favorite beta play as I now believe the stock will see the $10 range if this trend continues.

Is today a sell the news event?

That is the billion dollar question that all investors want to know. My simple answer is it depends on the stock. In the case of Chesapeake Energy, I say no. Yesterday’s open was a good time to buy in the low $6 range as that may have marked the bottom of the next leg up in the rally.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2018: Transcananda Pipelines Ltd.(TRP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Most investors have probably heard of energy giants Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS-A) (NYSE:RDS-B), Dominion Energy (NYSE:D), and TransCanada (NYSE:TRP). Fewer, however, are likely familiar with their publicly traded master limited partnerships (MLPs): Shell Midstream Partners (NYSE:SHLX), Dominion Energy Midstream Partners (NYSE:DM), and TC Pipelines (NYSE:TCP). That might be a good thing, as the market has beaten up the latter trio this year, sending their valuations south.

In addition to the Trans Mountain system, two other pipeline projects currently are proposed to move crude oil from Alberta either to the Great Lakes or the Gulf Coast. Enbridge Inc. (NYSE: ENB) is proposing to replace its 50-year old Line 3 system to transport 760,000 barrels a day to Superior, Wisconsin. TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) has received approval from the Trump administration and would transport 830,000 barrels a day to Nebraska where existing pipelines will take over, sending the crude to U.S. refineries and Gulf Coast terminals.

TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) just achieved a perfect Money Morning stock VQScore, making it a profit powder keg waiting to ignite…

TransCanada is a Canadian oil and gas pipeline company, most famous for its development of the Keystone XL pipeline connecting Canadian oil fields to major hubs in the United States.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Enbridge just bought its stake in the German offshore wind farm projectslast year, initially agreeing to invest about $1.25 billion for a 50% stake. However, with concerns growing about its balance sheet and ability to finance growth projects, the company has chosen to monetize part of this asset. It’s also monetizing its onshore renewable facilities in Canada and two in the U.S. to bring in some much-needed cash. This decision to cash in on a portion of its renewable portfolio follows a similar plan by fellow Canadian pipeline giant TransCanada (NYSE:TRP), which sold its solar assets in Ontario last year. The driving factor in that decision was TransCanada’s desire to improve its financial flexibility so that it could “continue to build on our vision of being North America’s leading energy infrastructure company,” said CEO Russ Girling. What’s clear from these deals is that neither TransCanada nor Enbridge sees renewables playing a key role in building the companies they envision themselves being.

Hot Dividend Stocks For 2018

Sin stocks aren’t a favorite of every investor for moral reasons, which we totally get, cautions dividend expert Kelley Wright, editor of Investment Quality Trends.

If you are simply interested in a consistent business with good growth prospects and an attractive dividend yield, however, then Philip Morris International (PM) is sinfully attractive.

This is a pretty simple business to understand; a tobacco company that sells cigarettes and other tobacco products.

PM markets and sells its products in approximately 180 countries in the European Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Canada, which provides a lot of geographic diversification.

Its economic internals are very strong, with a high rate of return on invested capital, free cash flow and free cash flow yield.

PM offers excellent value when its dividend yield is 5% or higher. Based on the current cash dividend of $4.16 that equates to a stock price of $83 per share.

Hot Dividend Stocks For 2018: Helen of Troy Limited(HELE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Helen of Troy (HELE) is trading lower Friday, after reporting a mixed first quarter.

The personal care products company said it earned $1.27 a share on revenue that rose 0.8% to $347.9 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.17 per share on revenue of $356.1 million. Gross profit margin increased 2.3 percentage points to 43.8%, while cash flow from operations climbed from $37.8 million in the year ago period to $41.7 million.

For the full year, Helen of Troy expects to earn between $5.85 to $6.35 a share on revenue of $1.57 billion to $1.62 billion. Analysts are modeling for earnings of $6.12 a share on revenue of $1.6 billion. However the company also warned that it expects a decline in sales for its nutritional supplement division.

Jefferies Trevor Young reiterated a Buy rating and $114 price target on the stock today:

Despite the 1Q revenue miss and ~30bps (~$4m) expected incremental FX headwinds, management maintained its FY revenue and adjusted EPS guidance (GAAP EPS came down $0.23 on the high and low end due to $6.6m of after tax non-cash asset impairment and patent litigation charges). Embedded in this guidance is the assumption of beauty coming in at the low end of the previous -7% to -12% range, and nutritional declining MSD (vs. flat to LSD positive growth previously). We believe this implies that housewares (MSD positive growth guidance previously) and health & home (LSD positive growth previously) would have to perform incrementally better than prior expectations, which we view as a positive.

The shares are down 3.3% to $99.31 in recent trading.

Top 5 Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch For 2018

Investment Thesis

Walmart’s (WMT) stock price has surged in recent months, in part due to renewed investor optimism for its e-commerce business, proving Warren Buffett’s decision to sell in early 2017 either wrong or too early.

The company’s fundamentals, however, do not reflect the deterioration in the company’s profitability and the challenges it faces in the coming years.

For the reasons discussed in this article, I rate the stock SELL.

Stock Price Performance

Walmart (WMT) has greatly outperformed both its competitors and the major stock market averages in recent months:

WMT data by YCharts

WMT has increased 50 percent in the last year, above the negative 2% for its primary competitor Target (TGT), and 15 percent for Costco (COST), as well as the impressive 21 percent for the S&P 500 index.

Top 5 Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch For 2018: FLIR Systems, Inc.(FLIR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Flir Systems(FLIR) was the biggest loser in the S&P 500 on Tuesday, but the stock recouped all its losses Wednesday, and then some.

    Getty Images

Flir Systems gained $2.78, or 8.1%, to close at $36.93.

The company’sdisappointing fourth-quarter earnings report was forgotten when it announced that the U.S. Coast Guard awarded it a $50 million contract. Flir will provide marine electronics systems for more than 2,000 Coast Guard vessels for its Scalable Integrated Navigation Systems 2 (SINS-2) program over a five-year period, with the option for extended delivery for an additional five years.

Even before the news, Imperial Capital’sEd Mally was bullish on the stock’s prospects, who raised his price target on the stock by $2, to $38:

Although we believe that some may still consider Flir as just a premier provider of very high-end cameras in the bellies of Bell Helicopters or border towers in a lumpy government sector, this 35-year-old company is a global leader in thousands of infrared detector cores and thermography equipment markets and also provides lower priced products to commercial and consumer security customers as well as other customers.

Flir is up 2% so far this year.

Coty(COTY) was the hottest stock in the S&P 500 yesterday.
