Investors had high hopes for the overall results of Walmart (NYSE:WMT) during the company’s important holiday quarter. The biggest ongoing question, however, was whether the company could continue to expand its online sales as the world increasingly turns to e-commerce. The answer to that question was a resounding yes.

For the fiscal 2019 fourth quarter (which ended Jan. 25, 2019), Walmart showed it was more than up to the task, growing its U.S. digital sales by 43% year over year. For the full year, online sales in the U.S. increased by 40%.

Strong overall results

Walmart grew revenue to $138.8 billion, up 1.9% year over year, or up 3.1% in constant currency. The retailer delivered operating income of $6.07 billion, up 36% compared with the prior-year quarter. Even more impressive was the company’s earnings per diluted share of $1.27, up 74% year over year. On an adjusted basis, which excludes the impact of tax reform and the unrealized gains and losses from its stake in JD.com (NASDAQ:JD), earnings per share of $1.41 increased 6% versus the prior-year quarter.

Hot Stocks To Own Right Now: Rockwell Automation, Inc.(ROK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Lee Samaha]

Similarly, in a bold and audacious step, Farr made a bid to buy Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) for $225 a share (the price at this writing is around $172), though it ultimately failed. The idea was to add Emerson’s strength in process automation (fluid materials process in heavy industries) to Rockwell’s discrete automation (automated processes in manufacturing) while adding Rockwell’s capability with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) — a market dominated by Siemens and Rockwell.

  • [By Lee Samaha]

It would be harsh to blame 3M for macroeconomic issues that have impacted so many other companies in the last six months. For example, machine-vision company Cognex (NASDAQ:CGNX) has also seen deterioration in automotive and consumer-electronics end markets, its two largest industry verticals. And Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) lowered expectations for its automotive-based sales in 2019 during the company’s recent earnings presentation.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Rockwell Automation Inc.’s (NYSE:ROK) stock has lagged far behind its peers so far this year, dropping 12% while the Vanguard Industrials ETF is effectively flat. You might think that Rockwell has been putting up weak earnings numbers, but that’s not the case. Here’s a look at what’s going on and what investors should do now.

  • [By Lee Samaha]

In truth, there’s nothing surprising here, because a slew of companies have reported weaker automotive capital spending conditions. For example, Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) recently lowered expectations for its sales to the industry in 2019.

Wall Street has a bad habit of focusing only on the largest and most interesting stories. That means that smaller, and sometimes boring, companies don’t always get the analyst attention they deserve — and that can spell opportunity if you are willing to do the extra legwork to get to know some unknown names. Three Motley Fool investors came up with these stocks to start you off with today: Hardinge Inc. (NASDAQ:HDNG), OrganiGram Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQOTH:OGRMF), and Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd. (NYSE:OR).

Top Performing Stocks For 2019: NXP Semiconductors N.V.(NXPI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

To be fair, M&A concerns appear to be playing some role in the selloff. The unwillingness of Chinese regulators to sign off on either the Qualcomm (QCOM) /NXP (NXPI) deal or a Bain Capital-led deal to buy Toshiba’s flash memory unit has stoked fears that the chip industry’s M&A wave will be halted until trade tensions between the U.S. and China ease.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) dropped about 5.6% Wednesday to set a new 52-week low of $84.59. Shares closed at $89.57 on Tuesday and the stock’s 52-week high is $125.93. Volume totaled around 13.3 million, about 60% above the daily average. The company’s stock was downgraded to Sell this morning by analysts at Stifel.

(NASDAQ: NXPI) by nearly 16%, from $110.00 in cash per share to $127.50 in cash per share. The increased offer defies one of the conditions set by Broadcom Ltd. (NASDAQ: AVGO) last week when it raised its own bid for Qualcomm from $70 a share in cash and stock to $82 a share.

Top Performing Stocks For 2019: Coherent, Inc.(COHR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Logan Wallace]

Coherent (NASDAQ: COHR) and Integra Lifesciences (NASDAQ:IART) are both mid-cap computer and technology companies, but which is the better business? We will compare the two companies based on the strength of their risk, analyst recommendations, earnings, profitability, institutional ownership, dividends and valuation.

  • [By ]

Coherent, Inc. (NASDAQ:COHR) is one of the oldest companies in the laser technology space based in California, US. The company employs around 5,218 employees and has grown rapidly in terms of revenues as well as profits over the past few years. A recent sell-off as a result of forex risks and a negative market sentiment with respect to lasers has brought the stock price down to reasonable valuations. However, analysts continue to remain bullish on the stock with target prices showing a minimum appreciation of 40% over the current market price.

  • [By Ezra Schwarzbaum]

Several other optics stocks stand to gain. In a Monday note, Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst Vivek Arya also highlighlited the semiconductor space as one that could benefit from the news. Other stocks to watch include:
