Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Own Right Now

If a company raises its payout at an average annual rate of 15%, it will double over five years — a rapid trajectory that most dividend-growth investors will be very satisfied with. It didn’t use to be the case, but the tech sector has become a hotbed for promising dividend-growth stocks — as more companies in the industry have entered transitional business phases and are returning cash to keep shareholders happy as earnings slow.

Within that mold, here’s why Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP), and Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) should be on the shortlist for investors seeking stocks with fast-growing returned income.

Apple

Apple is transitioning to a more software-focused business to reduce its dependence on what looks like an increasingly cyclical market for its iPhone. It’s also been concentrating on returning more cash to shareholders, having made a big stock-repurchasing push and by ramping up its dividend. The company’s last payout increase came in at a hefty 16%, and there’s a good chance that management will continue to deliver rapid dividend growth while it builds up its software business and develops more substantial innovations to reenergize hardware sales.

For instance, TerraForm Power Inc. Then you have Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. (NYSE:SWK), the company behind a handful of relatively well-known tool brands but not one that’s widely known among investors. It can get even more obscure, like Petmed Express Inc. (NASDAQ:PETS), the online pet pharmacy that’s certainly not a household name for most people and certainly not investors.

Nevertheless, several individual stocks failed to keep up. Read on to see why CTI BioPharma (NASDAQ:CTIC), PetMed Express (NASDAQ:PETS), and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) each slumped today.

Somewhere, Carson Block is popping the bubbly as short target Prothena Corp.’s tough year just got much worse.

The Dublin-based biotechnology company announced Monday that its mid-stage study of a rare protein disease didn’t reach its target and that development of its lead drug NEOD001 will be discontinued. The shares lost more than two-thirds of their value after having already fallen 30 percent in the prior 12 months.

Muddy Waters Capital founder Carson Block attacked Prothena last June, saying NEOD001 didn’t help patients much more than existing therapies. Five months later, Kerrisdale Capital Management’s Sahm Adrangi predicted that the drug would fail the Phase 2b study, dubbed "Pronto.” Investor concerns only grew from there as within weeks, they learned that results from a late-stage study of NEOD001 would take a year longer than planned. And then the chief medical officer abruptly resigned in February.

As of December 2017, Greenlight Re’s major (10%+) long positions were General Motors (GM), Brighthouse Financial (BHF), gold (GLD), Bayer (OTCPK:BAYZF), and Mylan (MYL). These long positions were balanced by shorts in Tesla (TSLA), Netflix (NFLX), and other “bubble basket” stocks. The portfolio is also short Assured Guaranty (AGO), a municipal bond insurer, a position which is hedged by a simultaneous long in Puerto Rican debt. Partnered programs with the likes of AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV), Astellas (OTCPK:ALPMY), Genmab (OTCPK:GMXAY), Bayer (OTCPK:BAYZF), Genentech and many more also lend additional credibility to the story.

Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch Right Now

A favorite maxim of Warren Buffett is that the best time to sell is never. While not even the Oracle of Omaha abides by that advice all the time, his track record makes clear that owning a stock for an extra-long time is still a sound approach.

Yet finding the best stocks to buy and hold isn’t easy. So to help get you started, we asked three Foolish investors to pick a growth stock that they believe investors would be wise to buy now and hold for the long term. A solid foundation for profitable expansion

Maxx Chatsko (SunPower): Despite record solar power capacity additions in the United States and globally, many companies in the solar industry have struggled to turn a profit in recent years. That’s because solar panel and cell manufacturers have been adapting to new market realities, and transforming themselves into stronger and leaner businesses has not come cheap. But while the last few years have been painful, it’s possible investors will be able to look back on them as a crucial turning point for sustainable long-term growth. SunPower might be the most likely solar manufacturer to follow that trajectory.

Can I take a tax deduction for my long-term-care insurance premiums?

Take Our Quiz: Is It Tax Deductible?

Maybe. If you have a tax-qualified long-term-care insurance policy, you may be able to deduct a portion of your premiums as a medical expense. (Most traditional long-term-care policies qualify, but ask your insurer.) You can deduct eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses only if you itemize your deductions, and then only the portion of medical expenses that is more than 10% of your adjusted gross income (7.5% if you are 65 or older). For example, if you’re 50 years old and your adjusted gross income is $50,000, you can deduct eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses above $5,000.

The amount that counts toward the deduction for long-term-care policies is based on your age. If you’re 40 or younger, you can count up to $380 you paid in qualified long-term-care premiums in 2015. You can count up to $710 if youre 41 to 50, $1,430 if you’re 51 to 60, $3,800 if youre 61 to 70, and $4,750 if you’re 71 or older (the amount that qualifies is slightly higher for 2016). These limits are for each person, so a couple filing jointly can each count the premiums they paid up to the limit for their ages.

Heres what we wrote: With GR-MD-02, Galectin is also targeting a different spectrum of NASH. The companys programs with GR-MD-02 are focusing on NASH treatment in individuals with advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis. As we mentioned before, Genfit (OTCPK:GNFTF) and Intercept (ICPT) are targeting what can be termed as the sweet spot of the NASH spectrum. Galecctin is one of the few companies targeting advanced stage of the disease. This makes it both an interesting and at the same time risky bet in the NASH space.

When your firm is known for its dividend safety and is primarily held by retirees and other income-seekers, the worst thing you can do is cut your dividend. Pipelines were supposed to be safe tollways that produced plenty of cash flows. So, when the oil bust hit Kinder Morgan Inc (NYSE:KMI) hard and the firm was forced to cut its dividend back in 2015, investors pretty much abandoned Kinder Morgan stock.

Kinder Morgan stock has pretty much languished since that fateful day. But it might not be languishing anymore.

Moves to right the ship at Kinder Morgan have begun to work and KMI has finally given long-suffering shareholders what they wanted all the time — a big return to dividend growth. With its latest mega-sized increase, Kinder Morgan stock is once again on top of the dividend pile. For income-seekers, this could mean that shares could finally be a big-time buy.

Needed Cut at Kinder Morgan

It’s no secret that the oil slump hurt all manner of energy stocks. And while the pipeline players were supposed to be the safest of the bunch, it turns out they were hit just as hard. Or harder, as was the case at Kinder Morgan.

Attention once again focused on the oil market, where prices rebounded to climb to new multiyear highs above $71 per barrel. Good news from several individual companies also helped keep sentiment positive. Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:AAXN), TripAdvisor (NASDAQ:TRIP), and iQiyi (NASDAQ:IQ) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.
