The result beat the market’s already high expectations, according to Credit Suisse Group AG, which raised its target by 24 percent — the most bullish among analysts tracked by Bloomberg. The stock has surged more than 65 percent this year, the best performer on the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index.

Oil prices have continued rebounding this year, with the U.S. benchmark price WTI up another 7% to around $65 per barrel. That improving oil price has helped drive up most oil stocks. I say most because Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), Apache (NYSE:APA), and Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX) are flat to down so far this year because investors seem to have overlooked them entirely. Because of that, they trade for a dirt-cheap valuation versus their peers, making them intriguing options to consider.

Newfield Exploration Co. (NYSE:NFX) – Stock analysts at B. Riley upped their Q3 2018 earnings estimates for shares of Newfield Exploration in a research note issued to investors on Tuesday, October 9th. B. Riley analyst R. Rashid now expects that the energy company will post earnings per share of $0.87 for the quarter, up from their prior estimate of $0.82. B. Riley also issued estimates for Newfield Exploration’s Q4 2018 earnings at $1.09 EPS, FY2018 earnings at $3.72 EPS, Q1 2019 earnings at $1.07 EPS, Q2 2019 earnings at $1.20 EPS, Q4 2019 earnings at $1.62 EPS, FY2019 earnings at $5.27 EPS, Q1 2020 earnings at $1.72 EPS, Q3 2020 earnings at $1.90 EPS and FY2020 earnings at $7.49 EPS.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The IEA’s forecast bodes well for oil stocks, especially those that have underperformed during the rally over the past year. Two that stand out are Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX) and Apache (NYSE:APA), since both have lost value even though oil has been red-hot. Because of that, they trade at dirt cheap valuations versus their peers. That underperformance doesn’t make sense given the growth these companies can deliver at much lower oil prices.

Top 5 Value Stocks To Own For 2018: ConocoPhillips(COP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Shares of ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) continued rallying last month, rising another 10%, which put them up more than 40% over the past year. Fueling April’s surge — which added more than $7.5 billion to the company’s market cap — was a combination of higher oil prices, another oil discovery in Alaska, and strong first-quarter results.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

ConocoPhillips’ (NYSE:COP) management team has worked tirelessly in recent years to transform the oil company into one that could thrive on lower prices. As a result, itcashed in during the first quarterwhen crude was well above its baseline plan. That strong showing sets the company up for continued success in the coming year — a key theme running through management’s comments on the accompanying conference call, which detailed recent achievements and how they frame what lies ahead.

  • [By Spencer Israel]

Oil companies were popular sells for the month, including ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP), BP p.l.c. (NYSE: BP), and Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) all net sold. Investors also net sold Alcoa Corp. (NYSE: AA), Starbucks Corporation (NYSE: CMG). and Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) in the midst of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's testimony before Congress.

From 2016 to 2017, Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) saw a 16% boost in profits, while Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) saw a 30% boost. Texas-based ConocoPhillips Corp. (NYSE: COP) saw a strong 37.5% boost.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) worked hard to turn its business around during the oil market downturn. We saw the first glimpse of its ability to thrive, now that prices are on the upswing, at the end of last year when the U.S. oil giant reported $545 million, or $0.45 per share, of adjusted earnings. That result marked a significant improvement from the loss it had posted in the previous year.

Hawaiian Electric Industries (NYSE:HE) was downgraded by analysts at Zacks Investment Research from a buy rating to a hold rating. According to Zacks, “Hawaiian Electric kick started 2018 on a mixed note. While the company’s first-quarter earnings came in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate, revenues beat the consensus mark. The company is the largest provider of electricity in the state of Hawaii, as a result of which it outperformed the broader industry in past twelve months. It continues to make systematic investments in utility infrastructure development projects, primarily adding new generation facilities, replacing aging infrastructure and restoring transmission and distribution assets. However, Hawaiian Electric depends heavily on third-party suppliers for fuel and purchased power. With the Federal Reserve set to hike interest rate thrice in 2018, Hawaiian Electric’s operational performance may get hampered in coming days. Fluctuations in the oil price in the global market tend to push up Hawaiian Electric’s expenses.”

Top 10 Medical Stocks To Invest In Right Now

A new report by MassMutual raises questions about the current effectiveness of retirement savings initiatives and programs in the United States, as the overwhelming majority of respondents, roughly 72 percent, agreed that they are not saving enough for retirement. This is alarming, but not all that surprising. Many Americans struggle to meet their current expenses and needs, let alone save for the future. Perhaps more troubling, was the finding that women were three times more likely than men to report that they could not afford to save for retirement. This feeling of unpreparedness for retirement also appears to be impacting women in other areas outside of retirement savings. In fact, women were more likely than men to report that their financial concerns were causing them added stress, limiting their social activities, affecting the quality of their familys medical care, and negatively impacting their relationships.

Women were more worried about the financial health of their families than men, more worried about the current political atmosphere than men, and felt less prepared for retirement than their male counterparts.  This adds up to increased stress.  The report also asked men and women about the types of employer-sponsored programs that would interest them and would help them feel more financially secure. While both men and women reported that they were interested in more financial planning services from their employer, women were more likely than men to want those services. However, a bit shocking was that more men than women wanted Social Security counseling. This was surprising because other surveys have shown that women are much more concerned about reductions or changes to the Social Security system. For instance, The American College of Financial Services 2017 Retirement Income Literacy Report indicated that 52 percent of retirement-aged women were concerned about cuts to Social Security, but only 33 percent of men were equally concerned. However, women also demonstrated lower levels of Social Security planning and retirement planning literacy in the same report, which could explain some of their heightened levels of concern. Higher levels of financial literacy were related to lower levels of concern about finances.

The announcement comes when tensions are already high over increasing inflation fears, Japan’s economic contraction, and uncertainty around trade between the U.S. and China. Markets are likely to continue to react with uncertainty as the global political climate continues to grow increasingly volatile. WTI crude oil remained near $71.00 despite concerns as markets look to the Energy Information Administration on the state of U.S. inventory levels. Retail stocks are in focus after the U.S. Census Bureau released monthly sales figures before the bell Tuesday. The bureau said that retail sales increased by 0.3% in April, a figure that matched trade expectations. Markets are increasingly optimistic over U.S. trade negotiations with China. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s No. 1 economic advisor will visit the United States this week to continue the nation’s dialogue with America. Top Biotech Stocks To Own For 2018

Generally speaking, companies that reside within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries are subject to a sizable amount of risk with regards to their drug candidates passing clinical trials and gaining regulatory approval. But consider that with the risk of failure, which could spell disaster for a stock, comes great reward as well. Some companies can see a massive upside just from winning a single midstage trial or even achieving as much as a Fast Track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Basically, these updates within the industry have the potential to make or break these companies.

Here 24/7 Wall St. has included a calendar of a few of the biggest companies expecting clinical trial and FDA updates in February. We have added some color, a recent trading history and a consensus analyst price target.

Its worth mentioning that these dates may be subject to change due to various internal and outside factors. Some of these changes are positive developments, and some can be disasters if a company is deeply financed.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2018

Sometimes I discuss stocks which sit out of my comfort zone, simply because they have a few characteristics which could be of interest to any kind of investor but don’t necessarily fit my portfolio. For example a blue chip stock which has features of positive capital gains combined with interesting dividend. In this case I am talking about Accenture (NYSE:ACN). A little bit more than a year ago, I covered this enormous IT consultant on Seeking Alpha.

I concluded that the firm is sometimes made fun of in the internet for its reputation to no surprise, but has excellent financial figures and a solid backlog. I thought based on current figures it would see another positive year in 2016 and the firm did not disappoint:

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2018: Flowers Foods, Inc.(FLO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Consumers across the nation know Flowers Foods (NYSE:FLO) from its Wonder bread, Tastykake snack cakes, and Nature’s Own bakery brands. Yet the truly novel thing about Flowers is how it has done such a good job of building up a national presence in an industry that is typically dominated by local competition. Coming into Monday’s fourth-quarter financial report, Flowers investors were hoping to see at least some growth in sales and earnings, but the bakery company wasn’t able to deliver the pace of expansion that most shareholders really want to see.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2018: Star Bulk Carriers Corp.(SBLK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By James E. Brumley]

When most investors think of potential competitive threats to drybulk shippers like Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK) or Euroseas Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESEA), Double Crown Resources Inc (OTCMKTS:DDCC) doesn’t come to mind. Indeed, DDCC doesn’t come to mind for many investors at all, as for all intents and purposes the company it is today didn’t exist until a few months ago. Age, however, has nothing to do with how disruptive it could prove to be for the likes of Euroseas or Star Bulk Carriers. Its underlying idea is brilliant, and it’s only a matter of time before it catches on within the commodity-transportation community.

What if there was a way to remove all the risks and hassle of shipping things like pellets or beans or salt – normally delivered in drybulk vessels – but still utilize all the flexibility of intermodal containers (the big 20-foot boxes that fit on a truck and a train and on top of the deck of a boat)? There is. It’s called Translock2 (Translock Squared). It was designed by Double Crown Resources, and it’s going to revolutionize the way many material companies deliver their goods.

The nearby image is a Translock2 container. It should look familiar – it’s essentially an intermodal container in terms of size and shape, but mechanically is a delivery and dispensing platform for drybulk goods. The design allows commodities like sand or livestock feed to be moved with all the flexibility of intermodal transportation, but without any of the headache of aggregating and splitting up those goods to get them properly shipped to their final destination. With Translock2, drybulk purchases are packaged up by the seller at the supply source, and then delivered — just as ordered — all the way to the buyer’s site in the container. No material is lost en route, and no distributor or middleman needs to bother splitting up one large order into smaller ones.

Its development is worth noting, as it explicitly circumvents the need for drybulk ves

Now those new buy recommendations are rolling in. This morning, Stifel Nicolaus — one of the best-rated analysts we have on Motley Fool CAPS — announced a pair of such upgrades, urging investors to buy stock in Scorpio Bulkers (NYSE:SALT) and Star Bulk Carriers (NASDAQ:SBLK). Here’s what you need to know.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Star Bulk Carriers (SBLK) provides worldwide transportation of drybulk commodities through its vessel-owning subsidiaries for a range of customers and minor bulk cargoes including iron ore, coal, grain, cement and fertilizer. This stock closed up 7.9% at $10.58 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 243,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 64,367

    Volume % Change: 228%

From a technical perspective, SBLK jumped sharply higher here right above some near-term support at $9.47 with above-average volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last two months and change, with shares moving higher from its low of $5.37 to its recent high of $11.53. During that move, shares of SBLK have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of SBLK within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if SBLK manages to take out its 52-week high at $11.53 and then once it clears some past resistance at $11.98 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SBLK as long as it’s trending above near-term support at $9.47 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 64,367 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then SBLK will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are its next major overhead resistance levels at $14 to $15.

We believe TXRH fundamentals remain best-in-class. That said, the near-term focus remains on directional comps. And not unlike the broader industry, TXRH comps eased significantly to close 2016. Such led to disappointing 4Q16 results from top to bottom. Importantly, while the brand ‘is not immune’ to industry comp headwinds, the relative outperformance to the category was maintained. Looking to 2017, key guidance metrics were reiterated. While questions remain on whether the recent easing of industry comps will persist, we remain comforted by TXRH’s relative outperformance and easing comps as we move through 2017.

Maxim’s Stephen Andersonreiterated a Buy rating, although he took his price target down $4, to $52:

In our view, TXRH is not immune to the broader slowdown in Casual Dining, but we believe the company will emerge stronger than peers in the next few quarters.TXRHs disappointing 4Q16 comp of +1.3% (blended) was pulled down by a rare negative comp month in December (-2.1%), marking the first time this occurred in almost four years. Comps were +3% or better in both October and November, and comps so far in 1Q17 are positive despite a stormy start to the quarter in
