Top Performing Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Codexis, Inc.(CDXS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Growth stocks can deliver most of your portfolio’s gains, and even make up for a few laggards. But they have a downside: One misstep can be all it takes for Wall Street to turn against them. That’s exactly what’s happened in 2018 to the world’s top lithium producer, Albemarle (NYSE:ALB), and the most reputable marijuana stock, Scotts Miracle-Gro (NYSE:SMG). That shouldn’t scare investors from buying high-growth companies, however. For instance, it looks as if tiny biotech Codexis (NASDAQ:CDXS) will grow into its premium valuation (and then some) sooner rather than later.

Investors (and analysts) may use simple indicators, such as stock returns, to figure out where to invest their attention — and maybe even their hard-earned dollars. That would put two synthetic biology stocks on investors’ radars: Amyris (NASDAQ:AMRS) and Codexis (NASDAQ:CDXS), which have gained 155% and 140%, respectively, in the last year. Which one is the better buy?

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Demitrios Kalogeropoulos]

Chanos’ main contention: valuations for the two fast-food heavyweights are too high and he thinks it’s better for restaurants to own their own real estate, rather than franchise.

Emerging markets dominated investment in clean energy in the first quarter of 2018, with more than 40% of funding going to projects in China, while there were notable developments in Mexico, Morocco, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Total investment for the first three months of the year was $61.1 billion, 10% lower than the same period in 2017, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). Using slightly different criteria, Clean Energy Pipeline said that the figure was $62.1 billion.

One reason for the fall in investment was a 19% drop in solar funding, partly as a result of a 7% fall in the price of photovoltaic equipment over the past year, and partly because of weaker activity in some markets.

Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now

Wells Fargo(NYSE:WFC) is one of Berkshire Hathaway’s(NYSE:BRK-A)(NYSE:BRK-B) largest stock investments, and according to Warren Buffett’s comments at Berkshire’s recent annual meeting, there’s no reason to believe that will change soon.

In this Industry Focus: Financials clip, Michael Douglass and Matt Frankel explain why Buffett is standing by the megabank.

A full transcript follows the video.

This video was recorded on May 7, 2018.

Michael Douglass: Let’s turn to topic No. 2: Warren Buffett’s investments in Wells Fargo. Now, listeners, you’ve heard us talk quite a bit about Wells Fargo over the past, oh, I don’t know, six to eight months, but particularly in the last couple of episodes. We’ve had quite a bit to say about the company. Warren Buffett, not surprisingly, was asked about Wells.

Matt Frankel: Yeah. It’s actually interesting, I don’t know if you were watching the live stream during this, but, when they were asked the question, the question was worded to the effect of, “At what point do you just give up and get out of Wells Fargo?” And the audience cheered the question more than they cheered Buffett’s response. This is a very common question that people have about Berkshire’s Wells Fargo investment. But, Buffett kind of gave the indication that not only does he not want to sell, he thinks Wells Fargo is going to do particularly well in the coming years. In fact, this morning, he told CNBC that he thinks Wells Fargo will outperform the other big banks over the next 10 years. He stopped short of telling investors to buy any more.
