Best Safest Stocks To Invest In 2021

The benefit of being a conglomerate is that some businesses may offset weakness in other units over the course of the business cycle. Without argument, the conglomerate can also prevent a company from being taken down by a single business unit. In the case of General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), it turns out that breaking up the conglomerate is the new strategy now that it has been kicked out of the Dow Jones industrial average.

GE has completed its strategic review and the conglomerate’s path forward is to focus on Aviation, Power and Renewable Energy. GE has also confirmed that the company is spinning off its Healthcare unit to shareholders. Approximately 20% of the new equity will remain at GE, and the other 80% or so will go directly to shareholders.

GE Healthcare is now led by Kieran Murphy, who comes from a background in the faster-growing biological production equipment. It is also no secret that GE has been an acquirer of health care assets and companies over the years.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP) offers an even more attractive yield at 7.5%, which it can comfortably cover with cash flow. However, unlike the others on this list, Crestwood Equity doesn’t expect to increase its payout this year. That’s because the MLP currently plans to plow all its excess cash into its growing slate of expansion projects, which should give the company the fuel to grow its cash flow at a more-than-15% annual rate through 2020. Once it’s past this heavy investment phase, Crestwood Equity should be in a better position to return more cash to investors. In the meantime, it offers a sustainable high yield with some enticing upside.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP) is in the midst of a multi-year strategy to improve its financial profile even as it restarts its growth engine. That plan has already paid dividends for investors as the company generated high-end results in 2018, which enabled it to deliver market-crushing total returns.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP) was the top-performing master limited partnership (MLP) of 2018 by a landslide. The midstream company generated a total return of 17% last year, which was well ahead of the negative-12.7% total return of the average MLP as measured by the Alerian MLP ETF. That outperformance has continued in 2019, as Crestwood has generated a more than 23% total return through the first month and a half, which has outpaced the 18% total return of its peers in the Alerian MLP ETF.

Global casino operators had a run of good luck recently after the cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passed a casino bill that would legalize casino gambling in the country. While many observers had been expecting two licenses to be initially approved, the cabinet has called for three, along with other measures that could help spawn a viable industry.

With a June 20 deadline before Japan’s legislature adjourns, the prime minister is pushing for the Diet to take up and approve the bill.

A big bet for Japan

Unlike in the U.S., important legislation in Japan typically emanates from the cabinet, and the legislature — called the Diet — then considers it. Cabinet members are also typically members of the Diet. According to The Japan Times, last year, the Cabinet proposed 75 laws, all but four of which were passed by the Diet while just 12 bills were approved from the 164 that were initiated from within the Diet.

Other tipsWe found many other ways to save on the wedding bill. Here are a few of them:

Buy in bulk from one of the deep discounters such as Costco (NASDAQ:COST) or Wal-Mart’s (NYSE:WMT) Sam’s Club. These places sell everything a do-it-yourself wedding planner would need: beer, food, soda, decorations, booze, vegetables the size of lawn tools, tents, lighting, liquor, gifts, desserts, hooch, snack trays, bridesmaids, disposable cameras, and much, much more — in large quantities and at low prices. We also had luck at Big Lots (NYSE:BIG), where we bought all our tablecloths (much cheaper than renting, and we’ll have them for years). Rather than pay for a $500 wedding cake, we set up a dessert table, featuring a multi-layer cheesecake (made by my wife’s sister) and a variety of treats from a local bakery. We saved a bunch of money, and received many favorable comments (especially from kids and people who don’t like cake). We held our rehearsal dinner in the cafeteria of the elementary school where my wife and I met (as teachers — we aren’t first-grade sweethearts). A tasteful friend did the decorating, and each table was covered in pictures of everyone at the dinner. The good time everyone had while sharing old photos was only matched by the trans-classroom laser tag that followed.

It’s not widely discussed, but the U.S. industrial economy fell into a recession for a brief period in 2015 and 2016, a downturn largely caused by falling energy prices and mining output, which in turn led to declines in heavy industries’ capital spending. The knock-on effects were seen in areas like construction and process automation. That hit companies like Emerson Electric (NYSE:EMR) hard.

Other financial markets saw mixed moves as well, with 10-year Treasury yields climbing above 3.1% while oil prices stayed comfortably above $70 per barrel. Despite the quiet day, some companies had good news that pushed their shares sharply higher. World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE:WWE), Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK), and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

There’s an interesting dichotomy here, however. Crestwood was looking to stay financially disciplined, but it also needed to invest to grow. Doing both at the same time is difficult, which is why it partnered up with Con Ed in the Marcellus region, Shell Midstream Partners LP (NYSE:SHLX) and First Reserve in the Delaware Basin, and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) in the Powder River basin. These agreements allow Crestwood to keep expanding its business without having to foot the entire bill for the investments.

America’s oil renaissance is powered almost exclusively by technology, as companies like Schlumberger (SLB) and Core Labs (CLB) are breathing new life into once forgotten wells. Nucor (NUE) has a similar leadership position in the steel industry thanks to technology, and that company will only benefit more that President Trump’s tariffs put the market on a more level playing field.

Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE:KMI) is one of the largest midstream companies in North America, and it has major dividend plans between 2018 and 2020. By the end of that period, it expects to increase its dividend from $0.50 per share per year (in 2017) to $1.25. That’s huge dividend growth in a short period of time. But don’t get too enamored by that news; the dividend will still be lower than it was before the midstream oil and gas company’s 75% dividend cut in 2016. If you’re looking for dividend income in the midstream space, take a look at longtime dividend payers ONEOK, Inc. (NYSE:OKE) and Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P. (NYSE:MMP) instead.

    2. Price To Sales
Another useful metric is the price-to-sales ratio (P/S). P/S measures a company’s market cap versus its annual revenue number. The idea is that the lower the number, the greater the implied value. For example, Snap, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNAP) trades at 26.9 times sales, an incredibly expensive number. However, aftermarket auto parts giant Genuine Parts (NYSE: GPC) trades at just 0.88 times sales — 88 cents to every dollar of sales the company brings in. Often, the lower the number, the more inefficiently the market has mispriced the stock.

    Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE: GPC)
Ok, now I know I’ve definitely locked in the broken record award. GPC is better known to consumers as NAPA auto parts. And aftermarket auto parts is probably one of the most lucrative businesses in the United States for too many reasons to cover now.

Best Safest Stocks To Invest In 2018

I’m in my early 60s and have about $400,000 in savings. I tend to stick to bank money-market accounts and CDs, as I was scammed in the past. What’s the safest way for me to invest this money?–Maria

Your urge to play it safe is perfectly understandable. You already know from bitter experience that there are people out there who prey on inexperienced (or even experienced) investors by conning them outright or putting them into investments that may be inappropriate for their situation, and expensive to boot.

Such conduct aside, the financial markets in and of themselves can be scary, even when you’re limiting yourself to perfectly legitimate investments. Even though the stock market’s been going gangbusters since rebounding from the financial crisis some eight and a half years ago and has been hitting new records of late, at some point stock prices will tumble big time, as they have many times in the past.

Bonds aren’t as volatile as stocks, but they too are somewhat vulnerable in that bond prices go down when interest rates go up (although as with stock setbacks, no one knows for sure when or how much bond yields will rise).

Another highlight in April was that Shell gave the green light to the Vito project, which is a joint venture with Statoil (NYSE:STO) in the Gulf of Mexico. Shell and Statoil were able to cut that project’s cost estimate by 70% from the original design so that it’s now profitable at $35 a barrel. The partners expect the project to produce 100,000 BOE/D of low-cost oil and gas when it comes online in 2021.

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Anyone that has watched oil prices tick up recently has probably expected oil producers to report some impressive earnings results this past quarter, and Statoil (NYSE:STO) did just that with a 21% boost to the bottom line. At the same time, management is using all of its additional cash to do some wheeling and dealing that should help boost its growth possibilities in the nearer term.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

We believe that the equity market has neutralised much of its underweight energy positioning in 4Q/1Q, but was caught by the sharp rally in crude from end-January. Our base-case sees oil prices still higher by end-2016 (we see >$50/bbl), albeit with a choppy 2Q likely ahead. In this scenario a modest, rather than fully-fledged price-recovery we continue to place a lot of importance on self-help in driving ROE expansion (as opposed to relying simply on oil-leverage). Value-adjusted, we like the self-help stories around Total, Chevron, Statoil (STO), Royal Dutch Shell and Eni (E) in the group. Total is on the Citi European Focus list.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Should oil prices recover, we believe that deepwater drilling activity growth should lag growth in US shale activity, as project economics is generally better in US shales, and E&Ps involved in US shales are generally quicker to react. Deepwater activity is largely comprises a handful of companies (Petrobras (PBR), Statoil (STO), Total (TOT), Shell (RDS.A), BP (BP), ONGC, ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX)) and it is unlikely that these companies can meaningfully increase their rig demand in a short period of time to absorb the current oversupply. Thus, should oil prices rise in 2018, rig demand may increase, but likely not enough to tighten the market, given that supply equaling 43% of current working rig count is stacked and new supply equaling 25% of working rig count is under-construction and should be entering the market in the coming years. As a result, while we expect some improvement in rig utilization owing to rig retirements, it will unlikely be strong enough to meaningfully improve rates in 2018 above spot levels. Any demand increase in the interim could slow rig retirements materially, and be self-defeating. We thus are Sell rated on Transocean, Atwood and Noble.

  • [By Jayson Derrick]

BP plc (ADR) (NYSE: BP), Royal Dutch Shell plc (ADR) (NYSE: RDS-A) (NYSE: RDS-B) and Statoil ASA(ADR) (NYSE: STO) are expected to outperform their peers by offering: 1) the greatest rate of change in cost reduction through technology and innovation, 2) upstream portfolios with an attractive risk to reward profile and 3) sufficient liquidity to invest in future growth.
