Bears retained a tight grip on Dalal Street for the fourth day in a row on September 21, as the Nifty 50 – after gap up opening – fell sharply in the afternoon and broke crucial support of 11,000, but managed to pull back some losses in the latter part of the session to close off the day’s low.

The Nifty 50 started the day on a strong note at 11,271.30 and hit the day’s high of 11,346.80 following positive global cues, and due to short covering, but suddenly crashed in the afternoon to break the 11,000-mark and hit an intraday low of 10,866.45, which last seen on July 9, showing a loss of 368 points intraday.

Top Performing Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Codexis, Inc.(CDXS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Growth stocks can deliver most of your portfolio’s gains, and even make up for a few laggards. But they have a downside: One misstep can be all it takes for Wall Street to turn against them. That’s exactly what’s happened in 2018 to the world’s top lithium producer, Albemarle (NYSE:ALB), and the most reputable marijuana stock, Scotts Miracle-Gro (NYSE:SMG). That shouldn’t scare investors from buying high-growth companies, however. For instance, it looks as if tiny biotech Codexis (NASDAQ:CDXS) will grow into its premium valuation (and then some) sooner rather than later.

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Investors (and analysts) may use simple indicators, such as stock returns, to figure out where to invest their attention — and maybe even their hard-earned dollars. That would put two synthetic biology stocks on investors’ radars: Amyris (NASDAQ:AMRS) and Codexis (NASDAQ:CDXS), which have gained 155% and 140%, respectively, in the last year. Which one is the better buy?

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Demitrios Kalogeropoulos]

Investors are looking forward to Dunkin’ Brands Group’s (NASDAQ:DNKN) earnings announcement on Thursday, Feb. 7. Among their reasons for optimism is the fact that Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) had mostly positive things to say about the industry in its recent report.

Dunkin’ Brands Group (DNKN) had little time to celebrate its better than expected first-quarter on Thursday as headlines erupted early that noted short-seller Jim Chanos has bet against the company. Chanos said in a TV interview that he has been short shares of Dunkin’ and Burger King/Tim Horton’s owner Restaurant Brands International (QSR) for about a year. Chanos’ main contention: valuations for the two fast-food heavyweights are too high and he thinks it’s better for restaurants to own their own real estate, rather than franchise.

  • [By Daniel B. Kline]

Top China Stocks To Invest In 2018: USG Corporation(USG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Warren Buffett likes to hold his stock positions for the long run, and his experience with USG (NYSE:USG) has been typical of his other long-term investments. The Oracle of Omaha started buying shares of the manufacturer of Sheetrock drywall and other building materials back in 2000, accumulating a sizable stake that has ballooned to more than 30% of the company. USG ended up going through bankruptcy in order to get a handle on its asbestos liability claims, but thanks largely to Buffett’s involvement, the building materials company not only survived bankruptcy but also saw share prices soar briefly on hopes that USG would once again fully participate in the then-strong housing boom.

As USG Corporation (NYSE:USG) drags its feet on an offer to sell the company for $42 per share, Berkshire intends to use its 30.8% ownership stake to motivate its top brass to make a deal. Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018

President Donald Trump retreated from imposing tariffs on billions of dollars worth of Chinese goods because of White House discord over trade strategy and concern about harming negotiations with North Korea, according to people briefed on the administration’s deliberations.

Trump also succumbed to pressure from farm-state Republicans, who heavily lobbied the White House to resolve its trade differences with China, which had especially targeted U.S. agricultural products with planned retaliatory tariffs.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that the administration’s plan to impose tariffs had been suspended, and Trump said on Twitter on Monday that the Chinese had agreed to purchase unspecified amounts of American farm products. Some of his loyalists led by former chief strategist Steven Bannon criticized the deal as a capitulation.

The agreement at least delays a trade war between the world’s two largest economies, a prospect that has rattled financial markets for months. But many U.S. concerns about China’s economic practices remain unresolved: its acquisition of American technologies; the country’s plans to subsidize the growth of advanced domestic industries such as artificial intelligence and clean energy; and U.S. companies’ access to China’s markets.

3 Must-Ask Questions for Annuity Clients

Lolita Lopez was forced to close one branch of the Delaware-based Westside Family Healthcare network she runs, and now she’s worried she’ll have to shut more unless Congress gets its act together.

Westside is among the roughly 1,400 community health centers in the U.S. that serve about 25 million people a year under a federal program that provides crucial medical care for poor people. The centers receive $5.1 billion in federal funding each year, but most of that money dried up on Sept. 30 and a highly polarized Congress appears to be in no rush to approve a long-term extension. A temporary fix ends in March.

The lack of permanent funding has affected the way centers handle critical issues, such as treating the opioid epidemic, and how they recruit and retain staff.

Blue chip stocks are among the worst retirement investments you can make.

There are several blue-chip stocks that will actually cost you thousands of dollars each year. We&a;rsquo;ll discuss three in a moment.

Sure, the financial media might lionize these stocks. But blue chips are simply big companies. When the term first came into being, it was simply an homage to the blue poker chip &a;ndash; at the time, the most valuable chip on the table. Before purples, oranges and grays began to grace the baize.

However, now the term comes with a boat load of perks &a;ndash; the simple assignment of the term &a;ldquo;blue chip&a;rdquo; is practically a buy recommendation. And therein lies the danger. Because in many cases, these larger companies have not only hit the end of their growth cycle, but are nearing the latter stages of their dividend growth cycle as well.

Best Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now

General Electric was blasted on Wednesday by workers, retirees and shareholders bemoaning the downfall of the company they love.

At its annual meeting, GE (GE) got an earful from employees and investors who pleaded with management to right the ship after a disastrous year.

“I believe it was arrogance and a series of bad business decisions,” former employee Bill Freeda said. “Our board of directors clearly has been AWOL.”

Another shareholder said: “GE, which was once one of the preeminent companies in the world the bluest of blue chips is now an embarrassment.”

The past 12 months has been one of the darkest periods in GE’s 126-year history. A cash crisis, brought on by years of bad deal-making, forced GE to cut its dividend in half and lay off thousands of workers. GE’s stock price has crashed by 50%, and calls to kick it out of the Dow have grown louder.

Despite the deep criticism of past and current GE leaders, the company’s nominees to the board were all elected on Wednesday. None of the shareholder proposals calling for reform were adopted, though one pushing for splitting the CEO and chairman roles received strong support.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    Signet Jewelersdropped 13% to $63.59 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 2,363.64.

Then it concluded by noting that it had “thoroughly investigated the allegations and have concluded they are not substantiated by the facts and certainly do not reflect our culture.” Because self-investigating always works.

Hot Small Cap Stocks To Buy For 2018: ON Semiconductor Corporation(ON)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

Though concerns have been raised that the analog and MCU markets are at risk of seeing an inventory correction (they haven’t had a major one in a while), given signs of excessive ordering and stretched lead times, TI and STMicro’s numbers suggest conditions remain good for now. That’s particularly true in industrial and auto markets where trends such as factory automation, ADAS adoption and electric/hybrid car sales are boosting chip demand. Several other analog/MCU firms, including Microchip (MCHP) , ON Semiconductor (ON) , Maxim Integrated (MXIM) and NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) , will be reporting soon.

Aggressive accounts may want to look at this smaller cap play. ON Semiconductor Corp. The company is in the midst of a transformation from a seller of commodity discrete chips into higher value added analog integrated circuits, both through organic growth and acquisitions.

Top 10 Computer Hardware Companies To Watch For 2017

Stocks surged higher today as weaker-than-expected economic data make a September rate hike unlikely.

Michael Nagle/Bloomberg News

The S&P 500 gained 1% to 2,147.26 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 177.71 points, or 1%, to 18,212.48. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.5% to 5,249.69.

RBC Capital Markets economists Tom Porcelli andJacob Oubina explain why today’s disappointing retail-sales data are “yet another blow to the hawks’ mantra”:

The soft retail sales numbers headlined an overall very dovish data day in the US. The key retail control metric (ex. autos, gasoline, building materials) sank -0.1% (vs. consensus of a 0.4% gain) and this came with a back-month downward revision to boot (July is now -0.1% from flat prior). If that is not enough of a reflection of just how weak this report was, note that overall breadth was also quite ugly. The share of retail sales components rising on the month came in at a paltry 38% and up modestly from an already dismal 31% in July. In fact this now goes down as the weakest 2-month string for breadth since Q2 2012real PCE printed a paltry 0.7% back then. Overall, the weaker August print and the downward revision to July takes out tracking for Q3 real consumer spending to 2.7% from 3.0% (services, which is not part of the retail sales report, is really carrying this number). Overall GDP goes to 3.3% from 3.5% but we would note that the inventory swing is adding near ly a full percentage point here.

Mead Johnson Nutrition shares were up 85 cents, or 1.12%, during morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 16.71% year-to-date.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Shares of Michael Kors gained 3.7% to $49.62 today, and the funny part is that there was no new news on the apparel & accessories retailer today. Nothing at all. I checked Dow Jones Newswires. I checked Google News. I checked Briefing.com. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bloomberg says Jefferies had a positive note, but the analyst tells me he didn’t write one. FactSet says Piper Jaffray wrote a note on Kors, which seems plausible since Piper’sErinn Murphy wrote a positive one onCoach (COH), another maker of handbags and other accessories, today, but I’ve yet to receive confirmation.

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Coach (COH) is climbing Tuesday, following its upbeat third-quarter report.

With a neutral sector rating, we are working on evaluating risks to negative calls, and identifying potential value opportunities. Last week we noted more work might be worthwhile on Wabco Holdings (WBC), Terex, Manitowoc (MTW), and Caterpillar, two of those names have rallied for other reasons but the attractive price made the upside/downside skew up. We remain positive (OW) on Allison Transmission Holdings (ALSN) & United Rentals. Our and consensus 2017Allison Transmission Holdings estimates have fallen by 2% vs. ~15% for the group, while the shares are down 10% since launch. We continue to see United Rentals as the best value in our group…
