The shares of China Petroleum & Chemical (NYSE:SNP), also known as Sinopec, rose 18% in January, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Not far behind were Canadian oil companies Vermilion Energy (NYSE:VET), with a global asset portfolio, and Suncor Energy (NYSE:SU), a Canadian oil sands specialist, with gains of 16% and 15%, respectively. U.S. based Noble Energy (NYSE:NBL), however, led this international quartet with a 19% leap. Noble’s portfolio is global, but it has a material position in the U.S. onshore drilling space.

Noble Midstream (NYSE:NBLX) has a bold plan to grow its already impressive 7.4%-yielding distribution to investors by 20% per year all the way through 2022, which is one of the fastest rates in the midstream sector. Driving that growth would be the expansion of the company’s oil and gas gathering system to support the anticipated increase in production from customers like its parent, Noble Energy (NYSE:NBL).

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Fueling that forecast is the company’s ability to expand its midstream footprint to support the growth of its customers, including its parent Noble Energy (NYSE:NBL). The company operates several gathering systems in both the Permian Basin and DJ Basin that it expects to continue expanding as customers drill more wells.

A few days ago, a Gulfstream corporate jet owned by Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY) touched down in Omaha, Nebraska, home of Warren Buffett. It could have been a mere coincidence — but it wasn’t. Behind the scenes, Buffett was orchestrating a financial package to help Occidental outbid Chevron for Anadarko.

Rooftop solar energy could get a stylish makeover if Tesla gets its way.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based tech company, known for its luxury electric cars, will begin selling roof tiles that convert solar energy into electricity in April, CEO Elon Musk says.

The product, which Tesla will offer through its SolarCity division, will be a no-brainer for homeowners, Musk has said.

“The base of the proposition would be, would you like a roof that looks better than the normal roof, lasts twice as long, costs less, and by the way, generates electricity?” Musk told investors in November. “It’s like why would you get anything else? Maybe there’s a reason. I’m not sure why.”

While the idea has been talked about for a long time in the solar community, no one has been able to make it work on a large scale at an affordable price. Questions remain about the efficiency of using tiles instead of panels, and about the cost. But there’s no question that it would improve the look of homes compared to rooftop panels.

WPX Energy has since slashed its budget range down to $1.1 billion-$1.275 billion in response to the decline in oil prices, which have gone from above $70 a barrel in early October to the low $50s in recent weeks.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy For 2019: Sunoco LP(SUN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Trying to put a finger on the pulse of fuel distributor Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN) hasn’t been easy lately as the company has been reworking much of its corporate structure for the past year or so. Between asset sales, share repurchases, and debt elimination, too many balls were up in the air to make a definitive decision about its stock.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Like the other segments of the oil industry, investors have several options to choose from in the downstream sector, which typically makes more money when oil prices are low because they need to buy oil, which they then refine into higher-value products like gasoline. A company like Phillips 66 operates refineries, petrochemical plants, as well as marketing and distribution businesses. Meanwhile, other companies focus solely on one area of the downstream segment. For example, PBF Energy (NYSE:PBF) mainly operates refineries, Westlake Chemical (NYSE:WLK) primarily owns petrochemical plants, while Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN) distributes refined products to places like gas stations.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Three high-yield dividend stocks that seem to be in danger of a dividend reduction are Summit Midstream Partners (NYSE:SMLP), Enbridge Energy Partners (NYSE:EEP), and Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN). Investors are better off steering clear of this trio and considering safer options instead.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The only segment where earnings declined was the catch-all one labeled “all other,” which houses different investments such as its stake in Sunoco L.P. (NYSE:SUN) and PES, a refining joint venture. PES has struggled due to higher costs, and recently declared bankruptcy. Meanwhile, Energy Transfer’s earnings from Sunoco L.P. declined because that entity sold the bulk of its retail assets and then used that cash to repurchase a portion of Energy Transfer’s investment.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

There was a similar trend for smaller midstream player Phillips 66 Partners LP (NYSE:PSXP). It was down 19% in 2018 and rose 16% in January. But the trend didn’t hold for Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN), which distributes gasoline. This limited partnership was off by 4% in 2018, two percentage points less than the broader market, and up 12% in January. Cheniere Energy Partners LP (NYSEMKT:CQP) and Cheniere Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT:LNG) were even further from the pack, up 12% and 11%, respectively, in January after posting gains of 21% and roughly 10%, respectively, in 2018.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy For 2019: Devon Energy Corporation(DVN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

As things stand right now, analysts anticipate that at least some Iranian oil will come off the market as a result of the sanctions. That lost output would further tighten an oil market that suddenly has little margin for error thanks to red-hot demand and tame supply growth. That’s the recipe for higher oil prices and could make top-tier U.S. oil stocks Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) big winners in the coming years.

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE: DVN) is also a Buy, with a $47 price objective, and with its multiples based on a finite timeline to delivery that is also supported by its core NAV. Shares of Devon Energy were down 0.4% at $29.52.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) was one of those. While that company’s CEO did note on Devon’s quarterly conference call that capital expenditures would trend toward the high end of its guidance range, that’s because Devon was “completing our plan 2018 program quicker than anticipated.” As a result, the company would “most likely accelerate some 2019 program into 2018,” even as it stays within its initial budget guidelines. Doing so will enable Devon to grow faster while still generating excess cash at current oil prices, which it’s returning to shareholders through a $1 billion stock buyback and 33% dividend increase.

Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch For 2019

In an op-ed article published late Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal, Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A), and Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), argued that now is the time for publicly traded U.S. companies to stop providing quarterly earnings per share (EPS) guidance.

On Thursday morning, the Business Roundtable which includes CEOs of U.S. companies with more than 16 million employees and more than $7 trillion in annual revenues, weighed in supporting the proposal. That’s not too surprising given the Dimon is currently the chair of the Business Roundtable.

In their op-ed piece, Buffett and Dimon argue that “effective long-term strategy drives economic growth and job creation” and that quarterly EPS guidance “often leads to an unhealthy focus on short-term profits at the expense of long-term strategy, growth and sustainability.”

Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolton seconds that opinion:

Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch For 2019: Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft (VLKAY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By John Rosevear]

Prosecutors in Munich, Germany, who have been investigating Volkswagen AG’s (NASDAQOTH:VLKAY) diesel-emissions cheating scandal searched the homes of Audi CEO Rupert Stadler and another member of Audi’s executive team on Monday, according to multiple reports.

  • [By John Rosevear]

Under the deal, the two companies — and their affiliates, including Audi owner Volkswagen AG (NASDAQOTH:VLKAY) and Hyundai partner Kia Motors — will license key patents to one another and share access to fuel-cell parts, including the parts that Hyundai has developed for its current fuel-cell vehicles.

  • [By ]

May saw two amazing deals for different reasons. The Volkswagen (OTCPK:VLKAY) 40 billion Euros battery supply deal was truly staggering yet seems almost ignored by investors in the EV metals market. It seems to me investors don’t yet understand the impact of a 40 billion Euro deal and how that will spread down the line to help fund the junior EV metal miners. Then, the Nemaska Lithium deal raising a massive C$400m restored my faith that investors can see the potential for the sector. Finally, the large lithium producers continue to deliver large lithium profit increases year on year, helped along with rising lithium contract prices. An aMAYzing month after all.

  • [By ]

For that comparison, we showed the forecast price to sales multiples for Tesla, General Motors (NYSE:GM), Ford (NYSE:F), and Volkswagen (OTCPK:VLKAY) over the last 4 years (Figure 2). It is clear that Tesla’s P/S ratio is at a much higher level compared with the rest of its peers. If forecast P/S ratio is an indicator for investors’ perception of optionality, Tesla seems to process the largest optionality. It also indicates that Tesla’s optionality has been declining, approximately by 40-50%, in the recent period.

Top Insurance Stocks To Invest In 2019: HCP, Inc.(HCP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

The baby boom generation is cresting into retirement, with this demographic wave driving demand for healthcare assets for decades to come. That’s the backstory for healthcare real estate investment trusts, or REITs, like 5.6% yielding HCP, Inc. (NYSE:HCP) and 8.3% yielding Senior Housing Properties Trust (NASDAQ:SNH). Since REITs are a dividend-focused asset class, you might be tempted to buy the healthcare REIT with the highest yield, but don’t make that mistake. Dig into the story a little bit more.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

The aging baby boomer generation is set to materially increase demand for senior housing. The question isn’t if but when because the demographic shifts this giant generation will engender are largely unavoidable. Investors looking at the senior housing sector have a number of options to pick from, with two of the biggest names in the space being HCP, Inc. (NYSE:HCP) and Brookdale Senior Living, Inc. (NYSE:BKD). But what’s the better choice here: the property owner or the facility manager?

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

One way to balance the needs of income and preserving your nest egg is to invest in stocks that can pay a consistent and growing dividend. Using dividend payouts as an income stream leaves your principle intact and gives it a chance to grow over time. The trick is finding top-shelf dividend stocks that will deliver for decades to come. Three stocks that have this quality are pipeline master limited partnership Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE:MMP), healthcare real estate investment trust HCP Inc. (NYSE:HCP), and alternative asset manager Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (NYSE:BIP). Here’s why you should consider these three for your retirement.

Hot Energy Stocks For 2019

Apple does not agree with the Trump Administration on a number of issues, including tariffs and immigration. Now the iPhone maker is speaking out about the dangers of rolling back environmental protections.

Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives, gave a speech that covered what the company considers the dangers of the federal government’s environmental policies at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco on Thursday.

“Just a few weeks ago, the administration announced that they plan to roll back nationwide clean energy standards. The new plan risks drastically increasing emissions over the next 20 years,” said Jackson.

It was the latest move by the federal government to roll back environmental protections and safeguards enacted under the Obama administration.

The Trump administration thinks the regulatory costs of the rules stifle businesses.

Jackson, who was the head of the Environmental Protection Agency for four years under President Barack Obama, said those policies were already demonstrating real results.

Between now and 2050, global demand for air conditioners in buildings will rise from 1.6 billion to 5.6 billion. That means that 10 new AC units will be sold every second for the next 30 years.

The data were reported earlier this week by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in a study titled “The Future of Cooling.”

Demand for AC already accounts for about 20% of all electricity used in buildings around the world and about 10% of global electricity consumption. AC use is expected to be the second-largest source of global electricity demand growth after the industry sector, and the strongest driver for buildings by 2050.

Fewer than a third of all global households own an air conditioner today. More than 90% of households in the United States and Japan have AC compared to just 8% of the 2.8 billion people living in the hottest parts of the world.

IEAExecutive Director Fatih Birol commented:

Growing electricity demand for air conditioning is one of the most critical blind spots in today’s energy debate. With rising incomes, air conditioner ownership will skyrocket, especially in the emerging world. While this will bring extra comfort and improve daily lives, it is essential that efficiency performance for ACs be prioritized. Setting higher efficiency standards for cooling is one of the easiest steps governments can take to reduce the need for new power plants, and allow them at the same time to cut emissions and reduce costs.

Theratechnologies (OTCPK:THERF) is a small specialty pharmaceutical company (market cap: $153.74 million) focused on unmet medical needs among people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It has one approved product, EGRIFTA, a synthetic form of growth-hormone-releasing hormone available in Canada and in the U.S. to reduce excess abdominal fat due to HIV-related lipodystrophy. Despite a 9.7% price increase and a 30% increase in prescriptions received at the company’s call center from Q4 2015 to Q1 2016, sales of EGRIFTA have plateaued (see Figure 1) and may come in below $35 million for the year. On the other hand, shares have risen and have settled around 250% since Theratechnologies and TaiMed Biologics announced a collaboration agreement for ibalizumab on March 18. This is in line with the management remarks on how ibalizumab “once approved could rapidly generate revenues comparable to those of EGRIFTA,” and anticipated approval in 2017. However, the market may still be undervaluing this new asset.

Some individual companies, however, had to deal with adversity that sent their shares lower. Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market stayed in a pretty narrow range on Thursday, climbing early in the session but then slowly drifting lower through the afternoon hours. In the absence of major news, investors largely looked forward to key events like trade negotiations among the world’s largest economies. Other financial markets saw mixed moves as well, with 10-year Treasury yields climbing above 3.1% while oil prices stayed comfortably above $70 per barrel. Despite the quiet day, some companies had good news that pushed their shares sharply higher. World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE:WWE), Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK), and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

There’s an interesting dichotomy here, however. Crestwood was looking to stay financially disciplined, but it also needed to invest to grow. Doing both at the same time is difficult, which is why it partnered up with Con Ed in the Marcellus region, Shell Midstream Partners LP (NYSE:SHLX) and First Reserve in the Delaware Basin, and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) in the Powder River basin. These agreements allow Crestwood to keep expanding its business without having to foot the entire bill for the investments.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy For 2018

According to a report by Bloomberg, Saudi Arabia wants to push the price of crude up from its current level of $65-$70to near $80 a barrel. The Middle Eastern nation needs that price to boost the valuation of its national oil company, Saudi Aramco, which it plans to take public next year. Hitting its desired sell price would provide the Kingdom with the funds needed to jump-start an investment strategy that would wean its economy off petrol dollars over the next decade.

Saudi Aramco’s valuation, however, isn’t the only one that would benefit from a pop in the price of crude. Many oil producers in the U.S. restructured their operations to run on $50 oil, so if the Saudi strategy is successful, these oil companies would produce a gusher of cash flow, which could fuel high-octane gains for investors. While that rise would likely lift the entire sector, Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) and Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO)could outperform in that scenario.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy For 2018: Devon Energy Corporation(DVN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

That ability to organically discover new shale plays has saved it a ton of money. The company was able to quietly gobble up 50,000 acres in Oklahoma over a four-year period for just $750 an acre. Contrast that with rivalsDevon Energy(NYSE:DVN) andMarathon Oil(NYSE:MRO). Devon spent $1.9 billion to buy Felix Energy in late 2015 for the company’s 80,000 acres in Oklahoma, paying a whopping $23,750 an acre. Meanwhile, Marathon paid $888 million for PayRock Energy and its 61,000 acres in the state, which amounted to roughly $14,500 an acre. EOG’sdeepknowledge of shale helps it know where to look so it can lock up land for next to nothing before rivals even know what’s there.

  • [By Chris Lange]

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Wednesday was Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE: DVN) which traded down about 12% at $30.55. The stocks 52-week range is $28.79 to $45.16. Volume was about 30 million compared to the daily average volume of roughly 5 million.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

That efficiency was evident in the first quarter when companies like Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) and Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO) drilled record-breaking wells. In Devon Energy’s case, it completed two of the highest-rate wells ever drilled in the nearly 100-year history of the Delaware Basin. Those wells, when combined with some prolific ones in the STACK shale play, enabled Devon to produce a huge profit in the first quarter. Marathon Oil, meanwhile, drilled record-setting wells in two formations of the Bakken region as well as several high-rate ones in the STACK, which fueled strong profits for the driller in the first quarter.

Phillips 66 Partners (NYSE: PSXP) just entered the Money Morning VQScore “Buy Zone,” making it one of the best stocks to buy right now.

And the timing couldn’t be better…

  • [By John Bromels]

Phillips 66 was the midstream (transportation and storage) and downstream (refining and marketing) arms of oil and gas giantConocoPhillips, which spun the company off in 2012.The company’s midstream operations include income from its master limited partnershipsPhillips 66 Partners(NYSE:PSXP) andDCP Midstream(NYSE:DCP), which it co-owns withEnbridge.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

This strategy of acquiring assets from a large parent company to grow an MLP’s payout has worked well over the years. Refining giant Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) has been one of the most successful with this strategy since creating Phillips 66 Partners (NYSE:PSXP) in 2013. At that time, Phillips 66 launched an ambitious plan to grow its MLP’s distribution at a 30% compound annual rate through 2018 via a steady stream of dropdown transactions. Phillips 66 Partners is right on target, having increased the payout at a 31% compound annual growth rate since the IPO while maintaining solid financial metrics, including covering the payout with cash flow by a very comfortable 1.33 times last quarter and maintaining a conservative debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 3.2 in 2017. This strategy has also richly rewarded investors in Phillips 66 Partners, which has generated a total return of 89% since its IPO despite a recent sell-off, easily ahead of the S&P 500’s nearly 73% total return over that time frame.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy For 2018: Core Laboratories N.V.(CLB)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Shares of oilfield services company Core Laboratories (NYSE:CLB) have pinballed around in the last three years to yield a total return of 0.9% in that span. That’s not exactly the type of consistency investors are after.

  • [By Todd Campbell]

In the years since oil prices plunged from their $100-plus per barrel levels of 2014, many energy industry stocks have struggled — but now, they may be set to rebound. Economic growth worldwide and Middle Eastern production cuts have resulted in a more than doubling of crude oil prices since early 2016; if they remain near current levels or head higher, now could be the perfect time to add Hess Corp. Russ Kaplan is a money manager and newsletter advisor who focuses on buying value-oriented stocks with a multi-year investment horizon; here’s his top idea for conservative investors over the coming year.

One of the most under appreciated stocks on Wall Street is Apple (APPL). The stock is among the bluest of blue chips.

Apple has a financial rating of A++. On every measure we see — such as price/earning ratio — Apple is undervalued.

With the death of its founder, investors were skeptical about new leadership, but Tim Cook has done an excellent job. He owns over one million shares of the stock.

Apple is constantly developing new products such as the Apple watch and this is not done as a short-term item being rushed onto the market.

Rather, the company takes a long-term perspective and views its product introductions as something that will constantly be improved over the years.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now

By Andrew Sebastian

Liberal growth and conservative financing may seem contradictory at first, but the two are not mutually exclusive as Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE:EPD) proves. EPD is undergoing rapid development with $5.6 billion worth of capital projects under current construction, that will start adding to the company’s top and bottom lines starting in 2018. In 2016, over $2 billion worth of projects have been completed or will be completed by year’s end. They include gas processing plants, oil storage facilities and ethane export terminals – a diversification of EPD’s revenue streams that will only continue into 2018. Many of EPD’s current pipelines have upwards of double the capacity, so there is tremendous opportunity for growth. EPD certainly will not be hindered by capacity.

EPD has maintained an investment grade credit rating at Baa1/BBB+ while other MLPs and energy companies have seen their ratings fall in the face of declining energy prices. EPD’s business model is what allows it to keep a healthy credit profile. Although units of EPD may trade at a high correlation to energy prices, the actual underlying fundamentals of the business are not entirely tied to them. EPD’s success comes from its fee-based business with fixed contracts tied to the volume of oil and natural gas it stores and transports, regardless of the prices for oil and natural gas. Only about 15% of EPD’s gross margin is tied directly to oil and gas prices, so a sustained environment in which prices remained subdued does not mean falling cash flow. EPD investors can rest assured that the distributions will keep coming.

Kurson will join the powerful C-suite advisory firm TENEO as a senior managing director.

In a memo to staff, Kurson said Kushner had “never received the credit he deserves for supporting independent journalism and contributing to the cultural fabric of our city.”

Officials in China’s gambling enclave of Macau have raised concerns about sexual misconduct allegations against casino mogul Steve Wynn.

The intervention adds to mounting pressure on Wynn and Wynn Macau (WYNMF), the business that generates most of the profit for his gambling empire. The Hong Kong-listed division of Wynn Resorts (WYNN) has lost more than $2 billion in stock market value over the past two days.

The plunge comes after a Wall Street Journal investigation uncovered decades of sexual misconduct allegations made against Wynn, the 76-year-old founder and CEO of Wynn Resorts. The company’s board of directors has launched an investigation into the allegations, which Wynn has denied.

In a statement Tuesday, Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau said it had expressed concern about reports of Wynn’s “involvement in inappropriate behavior” during a meeting with Wynn Macau’s leadership. It said it has asked the company for more information.
