Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

We’re seeing the exact same price setup in shares of mid-cap natural gas company Questar (STR), even if the chart looks a little different at first glance. Like REGN, Questar is currently forming a downtrending channel, but in this case, the channel is bounded to the downside by two extra support levels. Don’t expect support to provide a reprieve from selling, though – the trend is clearly down from here.

STR is sitting up near trendline resistance right now, which provides an optimal time to exit a position in shares. This stock has gotten swatted down on each of the last three attempts to push through the top of the channel, and with shares slipping for a fourth time, the message is pretty clear that the trendline isn’t going to break this time around either.

Enstar is currently forming a descending triangle pattern, a bearish price setup that’s formed by a horizontal resistance level below shares and downtrending support pressing to the upside. Basically, as shares of ESGR bounce in between those two technical price levels, they’re getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakdown below support at $133. A move through that $133 price level is the signal to sell (or short) this name.

Relative strength is showing no signs of improvement in ESGR right now, which means that even after shedding almost 10% from its highs, this stock is still failing to keep up with the S&P’s performance. Keep a close eye on this name while shares remain within reach of $133.

Questar (NYSE: STR  ) is opening its financial taps a little wider to return money to shareholders. The company has declared a dividend of $0.18 per share of its common stock, to be paid on June 10 to shareholders of record as of May 24. That amount is $0.01, or 6%, higher than the company’s previous payout of $0.17. This was distributed in March.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Aaron Levitt]

For investors, the recent drop in all three shares — along with Kinder Morgan Management LLC (KMR) –- have put them all near their 52-week lows and at some of the highest dividend yields not seen in years. At these prices, you’re still getting strong dividend growth — about 5% for KMI — along with the chance to own the largest pipeline network in North America.

  • [By The Part-time Investor]

I sold Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMP), 168 shares at $80.38, and I replaced it with Kinder Morgan Management (KMR), 264 shares at $75.39. KMR pays its quarterly distribution in extra shares, rather than in cash, as KMP does. For some (crazy) reason this makes it okay to hold it in a retirement account without the tax implications.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

Kinder Morgan offers investors four ways to invest. In addition to the parent company, Kinder Morgan, investors can also choose to invest in MLPs Kinder Morgan Partners and El Paso Pipeline Partners or Kinder Morgan Management (NYSE: KMR  ) . Both of the partnerships directly own the pipeline and other midstream assets and offer higher yields. Meanwhile, the management company offers a tax-friendly way to invest in Kinder Morgan Partners with one key difference: Investors are paid in shares instead of cash. No matter which option you choose, Kinder Morgan is a top company whose stock, or units, are a great holding for any portfolio.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners is part of the Kinder Morgan family of companies with a combined enterprise value of over $115B. Kinder Morgan, Inc (KMI) is Kinder Morgan Energy Partners’ general partner and has incentive distribution rights and owns about 10% of the partnership. Another way to own Kinder Morgan Energy Partners is via Kinder Morgan Management (KMR), whose shares are pari passu with Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and has an equal distribution but pays its dividend in additional shares instead of cash. This in effects acts as a dividend reinvest program.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sean Williams]

    This week’s loser
On the other side of the coin was networking equipment maker QLogic (NASDAQ: QLGC  ) , which tanked 4.8% on the week after disclosing that its CEO, Simon Biddiscombe, had resigned on Friday. In the interim, QLogic’s CFO, Jean Hu, will be the acting CEO. Anytime the management of a company changes, it provides a level of uncertainty that’s bound to unnerve investors. I’d urge current shareholders (of which I’m one) to remember that QLogic has been consistently profitable for years, has $5 in net cash per share, and is poised to benefit from higher infrastructure spending. Patience will pay off here!

  • [By Eric Volkman]

QLogic (NASDAQ: QLGC  ) is soon to become a slimmer company. The firm announced that it will implement a restructuring plan this year, in a move to “streamline business operations with the goal of driving long-term profitable growth.” The effort will include a reduction in employee numbers. QLogic did not say how many jobs might be affected.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ryan Lowery]

    All natural
An obvious place to start is coal’s biggest competitor, natural gas. For a while now, I’ve been a fan of the natural gas compression company, Exterran Holdings (NYSE: EXH  ) , which provides operations, maintenance, service, and equipment for both oil and natural gas production. Exterran’s stock has had a steady climb the last couple of years — it’s up over 40% this year alone. The majority of analysts are calling Exterran a hold, but several rate it a buy or even a strong buy Currently, Exterran is trading in the upper $20 range, and with a price target of $33, it still seems to have some upside. And for those interested in investing in master limited partnerships, Exterran operates an MLP as well, Exterran Partners (NASDAQ: EXLP  ) , which has seen a 33% gain in its price this year.
