Watching the fireworks yesterday, a houseguest commented on why the techno display is bad for the environment (there’s always one in every crowd, isn’t there…!) It’s hard to ignore the majesty of a well produced fireworks display, and I don’t really see too many people hopping on the “let’s clean up the environment by eliminating standard 4th of July fare” bandwagon, but the issue did spark a larger discussion about clean energy, and in particular, LED lighting.
Incandescent bulbs were phased out beginning in 2007, and now, 10 years later, no incandescent light is manufactured in or imported for sale into the United States. These notoriously inefficient sources of light have been replaced globally with LED lights, which are more energy efficient, emit greater light, last multiple times longer than traditional bulbs, and are far cooler from an operational – and now a style quotient – standpoint.

Asset management companies like Oaktree Capital Group (NYSE:OAK) have to deal with market volatility in two very different ways. On one hand, they have to produce the exceptional returns that keep them ahead of their peers even when conditions make it difficult. Yet even when they are able to outperform, asset managers also have to address the fears of their clients, many of whom start to flee in down markets even when their funds are holding up quite well.
Hot Clean Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018: JA Solar Holdings, Co., Ltd.(JASO)
- [By Garrett Baldwin]
This morning, President Trump suggested that the United States is considering strong military action in response to recent chemical attacks carried out on civilians by the Syrian government. The president promised to send “nice and new and ‘smart'” missiles to Syria and accused the Russian government of partnering with a “Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” The president’s remarks are a significant departure from comments made last week, which suggested that the United States would be pulling out of Syria in the coming months. Trump’s threat of war over a recent chemical attack in Syria drove crude oil and gold prices higher. Geopolitical worries often offer a boost to commodity prices due to concerns about supply. Trump’s threat comes at a time that markets are already concerned about a significant military conflict in the Middle East between Saudi Arabia and Iran. WTI crude prices added 0.9% to hit $66.10 per barrel. Brent crude pushed to $71.10 per barrel. Gold price topped $1,350 per ounce and are poised for bigger gains. According to Axios, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) has privately told friends that he will not seek reelection in the fall. The news comes at a perilous time for Republicans, who are expected to lose the House of Representatives and potentially the Senate. Axios was the first to report the news. The story is also notable because Ryan recently achieved his long-time goal of passing tax reform in late 2017.

As 2018 unfolds, revenues in the Cotai Strip continue to grow. Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) is winning significant market share with its newer Wynn Palace resort, where revenue was up 47.2% in the first quarter. Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) is holding its own with its four Cotai resorts: They are achieving similar growth rates to the 20.5% of Macau’s gaming market overall. So if Wynn is taking market share, and Las Vegas Sands is holding steady, at least one of the other four concessionaires has to be losing ground. And by the looks of its recent first-quarter earnings release, Melco Resorts is one of the losers.
