Best High Tech Stocks To Buy For 2015

After stocks (barely) achieved another record high yesterday, they’re making more gains this morning, with the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC  ) and the narrower, price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) up 0.42% and 0.24%, respectively, at 10:05 a.m. EDT.

Dell: Know your offer
The battle for Dell (NASDAQ: DELL  ) took a new turn at the end of last week when Southeastern Asset Management — manager of the Longleaf Funds and Icahn Enterprises, one of Carl Icahn’s vehicles — sent a letter to the Dell board of directors outlining a competing offer to the going-private proposal advanced by Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners.

The offer from Southeastern and Icahn is more complicated than the straight $13.65 per-share cash bid from Michael Dell/Silver Lake, but it merits shareholders’ consideration. In fact, I think it’s the superior offer.

The formal announcement of the Silver Lake acquisition plan was made on Feb. 5. As the following graph shows, this was a highly opportunistic bid that came on the heels of a 40%-plus drop in the share price:

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]Mattson Technology (MTSN) designs, manufactures and markets semiconductor wafer processing equipment used in the fabrication of integrated circuits. This stock closed up 5.1% to $2.25 in Tuesday’s trading session.

    Tuesday’s Range: $2.15-$2.30

    52-Week Range: $0.70-$2.55

    Tuesday’s Volume: 593,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 825,998

From a technical perspective, MTSN bounced higher here back above its 50-day moving average at $2.23 with lighter-than-average volume. It looks like MTSN has now put in a double bottom chart pattern, since the stock has found some buying interest over the last month at $2.05 to $2.07. If that bottom can hold, then shares of MTSN will not set up to trigger a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if MTSN manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.40 to $2.52 and then once it clears its 52-week high at $2.55 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in MTSN as long as it’s trending above $2.07 to $2.05 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 825,998 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then MTSN will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are its next major overhead resistance levels at $3.17 to its three-year high at $3.30.

  • [By Stephen Simpson, CFA]Ultratech isn’t the only game in town, though, and there are multiple technologies and process steps that are going to play significant roles in the production of FinFETs and 3D circuits. With that, I would take a look at Mattson Technologies (MTSN), as this company has already accomplished the not-so-easy task of gaining meaningful share in the dry strip, rapid thermal processing (RTP), and etch markets despite competing with giants like Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Tokyo Electron (TOELY.PK).

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rick Aristotle Munarriz]AP It’s OK to say that Pizza Hut is full of hot air when it comes to its latest marketing move. It almost certainly won’t mind. Yum! Brands’ (YUM) iconic Pizza Hut introduced a new crust for its hand-tossed pizzas on Thursday. Instead of stuffing crusts with various types of cheese or even pepperoni as it has done in the past, Pizza Hut is promoting the fact that its new hand-tossed pizzas now feature a more airy texture. Pumping more air into the dough is supposed to give the pies less of a cookie-cutter appearance, an unusual choice among chains that sell themselves on their consistency. Every snowflake is unique, but every chain order is supposed to be uniform across the various locations. It’s what customers expect. However, just as the term “hand-tossed” conveys a personal touch, having a few more air pockets in the pizzas should generate some retro charm akin to an indie pizzeria. So Pizza Hut is proud of the “noticeable imperfections” of the new pies. It’s not that big of a gamble. The rest of Pizza Hut’s menu options will remain the same. If this move doesn’t “pan” out, it can be quickly replaced with the next evolutionary step of crust stuffing in the pizza giant’s playbook. Pizza Hut doesn’t stand still, even if it’s odd to find it stuffing its pies with air. Pizza Hut is Bigger Than You Think There are more than 14,000 Pizza Hut locations across 100 different countries, making the chain a major component of the Yum! Brands family that also includes Taco Bell and KFC. It could also use a boost. Comparable-store sales at domestic Pizza Hut locations slipped 1 percent in Yum! Brands’ latest quarter. These are competitive times, and for Pizza Hut, the challenge now is about more than beefing up its delivery business to compete with Papa John’s (PZZA) and Domino’s (DPZ), which seem to always have some ridiculous price promotion going on. (This is a business that has become cutthroat enough that Pizza Hut even feels the need to explicitly offer f

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Carroll]Unfortunately, the yen’s impact on stocks has blurred the lines on investments. Look no further than down-on-its-luck camera maker Nikon (NASDAQOTH: NINOY  ) . Nikon’s shares gained more than 8% over the past week due to the yen’s weakness, as the company rakes in more than a quarter of its sales in Europe. Still, the stock’s lost more than 43% year to date.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By James E. Brumley]In a perfect world stocks would move in predictable, manageable ways. We don’t live – nor do we trade in – a perfect world. In the real world we have to adapt to and deal with the curve balls the market throws us, and there are no two stocks that illustrate that point better than Document Security Systems, Inc. (NYSEMKT:DSS) and Nortech Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:NSYS) to today. While both NSYS and DSS are up today, one’s overbought and ripe for a pullback, while the other is likely at the beginning of a trade-worthy rally.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]Another under-$10 energy player that’s starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Andatee China Marine Fuel Services (AMCF), which is engaged in the production, storage, distribution and wholesale purchases and sales of blended marine fuel oil for cargo and fishing vessels. This stock has been in play with the bulls so far in 2013, with shares up big by 180%.

If you take a look at the chart for Andatee China Marine Fuel Services, you’ll notice that this stock has been uptrending strong over the last month and change, with shares moving higher from its low of 98 cents per share to its recent high of $1.69 a share. During that move, shares of AMCF have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move is now starting to push shares of AMCF within range of triggering a big breakout trade above a key downtrend line.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in AMCF if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $1.69 to $1.80 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 215,352 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then AMCF will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $1.98 to just above $2.20 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give AMCF a chance to tag its 52-week high at $2.75 a share.

Traders can look to buy AMCF off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right around some key near-term support levels at $1.29 or at $1.15 a share. One can also buy AMCF off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

From a technical perspective, AMCF spiked sharply higher here with lighter-than-average volume. This move is quickly pushing shares of AMCF within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if AMCF manages to take out Thursday’s high of $1.32 to its 50-day moving average of $1.39 with high volume.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sean Williams]On Monday, small-cap biotechnology company Compugen (NASDAQ: CGEN  ) gave investors something to cheer about when it announced a collaboration and licensing agreement with Bayer for two of its antibody-based immunotherapies. The deal could be worth as much as $540 million for Compugen and gives the company $10 million upfront, as well as the potential for $30 million more in milestone payments during preclinical trials. The two companies will co-develop these drugs, with Bayer getting worldwide rights upon commercialization (though Compugen would still receive a mid- to high-single-digit royalty). This is great news for Compugen, as it solves the problem of seeking out a partner later, helps reduce its clinical testing costs, and staves off the need to dilute shareholders with a secondary offering to raise cash. Shares added 44% this week.

  • [By Harry Domash, Publisher, DividendDetective and Winning Investing]If you’re worried about rising interest rates then Invesco Dynamic Credit Opportunities, ticker (VTA), invests in below investment-grade floating rate bank loans. In other words, these are called senior loans.

They’re bank loans that adjust their payouts based on prevailing interest rates, so if interest rates go up, these loans will pay higher dividends, so this is a good hedge if you are concerned about rising interest rates.
