Let us contrast this with TROV’s progress. TROV has secured two critical partnerships — with Illumina (ILMN), and PerkinElmer (PKI). Company filings on the ILMN deal don’t provide much detail, but the filings with the PKI deal detail how PKI wants to use TROV’s science to develop a new t assay to detect the presence of hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC). While these two partnerships do not guarantee approval in any way, they do provide a solid validation for TROV’s technology.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Brewer]

Relatively weak demand for thermal coal in China has pushed coal prices lower in Australia. That’s a problem for big miners like Rio Tinto (NYSE: RIO  ) , BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP  ) , and Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU  ) . However it could add to the allure of uranium miner Cameco (NYSE: CCJ  ) .

  • [By The Energy Report]

DS: Two of our top picks are Cameco Corp. (CCJ) and Ur-Energy Inc. (URG). For Cameco, we’ve got a $25/share target and an outperform rating. This company is the industry’s go-to, the blue chip uranium company. It’s organically growing very low-cost operations, which are for the most part in very safe jurisdictions. It has a lower-risk approach to contracts, with a targeted pricing mix of about 40% fixed-pricing and 60% market-related pricing in the contract book. The company’s got a solid balance sheet. We think it’s going to end Q3/13 with about $800M in working capital and another $2 billion [$2B] in undrawn lines of credit. It’s also diversified across the nuclear fuel chain, with exposure not only to its core uranium mining business but also with nuclear fuel services, like conversion and fuel fabrication. It’s got a stake in the Bruce nuclear power plant as well as a newly bolted-on uranium trading business, so it’s quite diversified. On top of that, Cameco pays a 2% dividend. We think it offers a very attractive risk/reward proposition at these levels.

If the name Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (NYSEMKT:MCZ) rings a bell, it might be because yours truly penned some bullish thoughts on the video-gaming hardware (joysticks, control pads, headsets, etc.) back on August 20th. Neither MCZ nor my write-up were received as anything partially special at the time – it was just another stock dissected by just another guy, and you may or may not have given it a second thought. The 37% rally in the meantime, however, may garner a little more attention.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Gold miners are getting a boost today from solid earnings from the likes of Barrick Gold (ABX), Goldcorp (GG) and Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM). The exception: Kinross Gold (KGC), which missed earnings forecasts and cut its reserves.

  • [By Charley Blaine]

Gold mining stocks are pretty much a disaster. Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM) is down 50 percent in 2013. Agnico Eagle Mines (NYSE: AEM) is off 51 percent. The NYSE Arca Gold BUGS Index is down 56 percent.

  • [By Patricio Kehoe] e, has cash costs of $912 per ounce, and Agnico Eagle’s costs do not even reach the $700 per ounce mark. Hence, it comes as little surprise that revenue has been decreasing steadily, since gold prices are hovering around the $1300 mark at best. As the company is hemorrhaging money, investment gurus the like of John Burbank and Seth Klarman have decided to sell their entire stake in the firm. I agree with this bearish stance, and recommend investors stay away from Kinross Gold.

    Any Long Term Investment?

If you were to follow Jean-Marie Eveillard’s purchases, one would be inclined to see good growth prospects for Agnico Eagle, and thus believe in this stock’s potential. And, you wouldn’t be wrong, as the firm has been growing at a steady pace, with no end in sight to its expansion possibilities. However, with a 171% price premium, investors might be better off waiting until a more favorable entry-point is available. Nevertheless, as a long-term investment, I feel highly optimistic and would thus even consider paying the additional cost.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

It may have been a long time coming, but the technology for renewable fuels is very close to the point that they can can compete on the open market against traditional energy sources. First Solar just recently announced a deal with El Paso Electric (NYSE: EE  ) that it will sell electricity to El Paso from its Macho Springs solar facility for 5.79 cents per kilowatt hour, less than half what El Paso pays for electricity from coal. Also, the Federal Energy Regulation Commission has stated that 83% of all additional energy generation in the U.S. for Q1 2013 came from either wind or solar facilities. Perhaps the route to developing better solutions wasn’t the smoothest, but it’s hard to deny the overall outcome.

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

If we were to pinpoint a company that embodies this success as of late, it’s First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR  ) . It just sold a 139 megawatt facility to utility giant — and large coal consumer — Southern (NYSE: SO  ) , and recently signed a power purchase deal with El Paso Electric (NYSE: EE  ) that will supply El Paso with electricity for half what it pays for power from coal. These deals also come with the announcement that the company upped guidance earlier in April which sent share prices up by 46% in one day.
