A steady stream of multi-factor exchange traded funds have been coming to market for over a year now. Multi-factor ETFs offer investors exposure to several investment factors – the idea being that investors don't need to time when a certain factor will perform well and when others will fall out of favor.
The Global X Scientific Beta US ETF (NYSE: SCIU), which is 14 months old, has proven, in real time, the advantages of the multi-factor structure. SCIU is part of a suite of Global X ETFs that follow “EDHEC-Risk Institute indices that target multiple factors, including low-volatility, momentum, size and value. The indices also combine the five models, including Maximum Deconcentration, Maximum Decorrelation, Efficient Minimum Volatility, Efficient Maximum Sharpe Ratio, and Diversified Risk Weighted,” according to ETF Trends.

Another biotechnology player that looks poised to trigger a big breakout trade is Vanda Pharmaceuticals (VNDA), which is focused on the development and commercialization of clinical-stage drug candidates for central nervous system disorders. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up a whopping 258%.
If you take a look at the chart for Vanda Pharmaceuticals, you’ll notice that this stock has recently broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $12.34 to $12.66 a share with solid upside volume. So far, this breakout has held and now shares of VNDA are quickly moving within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VNDA if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $13.30 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action 908,467 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then VNDA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $15 to $17 a share.
Traders can look to buy VNDA off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support at $12 a share. One could also buy VNDA off strength once it takes out $13.30 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Lincoln National (LNC) is a financial stock that’s forming a channel of its own… But with a twist.
That’s because the $12 billion wealth management firm is moving sideways in a range-bound trade called a rectangle. The setup gets its name because price action is essentially “boxed-in” by resistance above shares at $45, and support to the downside at $42. Instead of buying within the channel, rectangles are breakout trades you want to trade this name when it breaks outside of the box.
That means that a move through the $45 level is a buy signal, and a move through support at $42 is an indicator that it’s time to sell (or short) LNC. Right now, there’s some extra bias to the upside typically, rectangles are continuation patterns, and since Lincoln’s preceding price action was up, it’s likely next move is up as well. Still, it doesn’t become a high probability trade until the breakout happens, so wait to get your direction from the market.

With biotech stocks like Alexion Pharmaceuticals (ALXN), Biogen (BIIB), Amgen (AMGN), Celgene (CELG) and Gilead Sciences (GILD) getting pounded following Britain’s decision to embrace the Brexit, Piper Jaffray’s Joshua Schimmer and team assess the damage:
Amid the broader sell-off, we continue to assess the impact of Brexit on our coverage universe. Overall, the direct UK impact on our large-cap coverage appears minimal on each company’s operations, though the broader volatility continues to weigh on the sector.Alexion Pharmaceuticals remains a top large-cap pick at these levels and view the recent sell-off and today’s ~9% move as an overreaction and would take advantage of the weakness. That said, we are entering unknown territory and it’s not certain if Britain becomes isolated and the EU ultimately unites around this (which is what we suspect will happen), or whether this is just the first in a series of dominoes that fragments the EU….
No immediate impact on operations: Immediate operations are not expected to be affected as the UK is not leaving immediately. Longer term is anyone’s guess, though we note that all the EU countries have always controlled their own reimbursement process, which is often a gating step in the process. That said, if the UK’s economy is negatively impacted this may negatively impact UK reimbursement decisions. Some companies likeGilead Sciences noted that the UK could be treated as non-EU countries, such as Switzerland and Turkey which would not be a major change…
Currency probably the biggest impact: While UK sales are generally minimal for individual companies, broader European exposure varies widely for each of our large-cap companies, withCelgene andAlexion Pharmaceuticals seeing the highest exposure followed by Amgen, Gilead Sciences, Incyte (INCY) and BioMarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN), andBiogen least so.

Progenics Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: PGNX) shares shot up 29 percent to $6.37 after announcing the FDA approval of RELISTOR tablets for the treatment of opioid-induced constipation in adults with chronic non-cancer pain.
- [By Ben Levisohn]
After meeting with the senior management team of Progenics (PGNX) , Valeant’s partner for oral Relistor, we continue to think that this drug would be a good addition to Valeant’s GI (gastrointestinal) franchise. The PDUFA date for oral Relistor is 7/19/16. AlthoughValeant is leading interactions with the FDA, Progenics is highly confident regarding an approval in July based on its discussions with Valeant. Progenics believes that oral Relistor could be a $1B+ opportunity for Valeant, even with the recent decrease in opioid usage. For context, we estimate ’16 sales of $9.9B for Valeant. An approval for oral Relistor would also help remind the Street that Valeant’s brand drug pipeline is underappreciated, in our view. We think pipeline advancements for brand drugs could drive multiple expansion forValeant shares (on P/E).
